Ascent Equity Capital

Ascent Equity Capital is a private equity firm based in Chicago that invests in management buyouts of companies nationwide. On April 30, 2008 the company closed on an increased size of the company's first fund, Ascent Equity Capital I, L.P. to $5 million (Source: Alternative Investment News).

As of May 2008, the investment return for the firm's first fund to date is a gross internal rate of return of over 50% (Source: Venture Capital Access Online) (1), in the top quartile for all private equity firms. Investments made by the company include investments in the $100 million buyout of Central Security Group in 2005, Encore Legal Solutions in 2003, TrialGraphix in 2004, and Main Street National Bank in 2005.

According to Venture Capital Access Online, the company has invested in deals with other firms such as Frontenac Company and Great Hill Partners and focuses on management buyouts of business services and consumer products companies, and brings in larger private equity groups to fund buyouts up to $1 billion.

The firm was founded with $500,000 in 2003 under the former name of Pinnacle Equity Capital I, L.P. by Chad Mollman, a veteran of the private equity firm Stolberg Equity Partners LLC in Denver (Source: Buyouts Magazine).
