In 1996 As Friends Rust would record six songs. The band, proud of their work, sent a three-track demo to a number of record labels, including Doghouse Records and Equal Vision Records, who both ignored the tape.[citation needed] The band disbanded in the spring of 1997 and went to work on bigger projects, such as Red Letter Day and The Rocking Horse Winner for all but Damien, who was temporarily with Shai Hulud, Morning Again, Culture as well as Bird of Ill Omen
Two years later, Damien Moyal would revive the band and use four of the six tracks on their debut EP with Good Life Recordings.
