As Cruel as School Children is the third Gym Class Heroes album released by Fueled by Ramen. It was released on July 25, 2006. A second version of the album, released on November 4, 2006 additionally contains the single "Cupid's Chokehold" (a different recording of the song was featured on their second album The Papercut Chronicles). Both versions of these albums have the Parental Advisory sticker on them. As Cruel as School Children shows a significant departure from the style of their previous work such as the use of drum machine, Acoustic Guitar, Synthesizers and the band Dabbling in many genres such as Electronica, Funk and Soul. Since its release, it has been certified gold by the RIAA.[1]
As to date, the album has sold 471,890 copies.[2]

[edit] Additional notes
- The "Living MySpace" themed video for "New Friend Request" was directed by Andrew Paul Bowser and Joseph M. Petrick, Bowser also directed The Papercut Chronicles version of the "Cupid's Chokehold" video.
- "The Queen and I" was the first single released from this album.
- The song "7 Weeks" features The Academy Is... vocalist William Beckett.
- "Clothes Off!" features Fall Out Boy vocalist Patrick Stump. The hook for the song is from Jermaine Stewart's 1986 song "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off".
- "Biter's Block" features Speech of Arrested Development.
- On the back of the CD case, the title for track 5 should be "Sloppy Love Jingle Pt. 1", but there is a typing error and it is written as "Sloppy Live jingle Pt. 1". This mistake was fixed on the re-release. In addition, when the album is played on a computer, all three "Sloppy Love Jingle" appear as "Sloppy Live Jingle".
- The song "The Queen and I" has a new video, which is in rotation on MTV, MTV2, FUSE, and MuchMusic.
- The band re-released this album, which includes the new remix of "Cupid's Chokehold".[1]
- The chorus for "Cupid's Chokehold" comes from the single "Breakfast in America" by Supertramp and is sung by Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy.
- Stump has appearances on both versions of the video for "Cupid's Chokehold".
- The group recently went on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to promote the album.
- The name of the album is a lyric from "Scandalous Scholastics", which is a track on the album.
- Track 6, "Viva la White Girl", comes off as a song about cocaine usage, but singer Travis McCoy explains the song is a metaphor for his love of music.
- Track 3, "New Friend Request" and track 8, "It's OK, but Just this Once!" were used in the film Snakes On A Plane. Travis McCoy also guest stars on the films theme tune, Bring It (Snakes on a Plane).
- The song "It's OK, But Just This Once" was briefly featured on HBO's hit series Entourage in episode 319 - "The Prince's Bride".
