[edit] Summary
The entire frame of this picture is occupied by the interior of the Mendeleev impact basin. Part of the wide inner wall of Mendeleev is visible along the top edge. Near the left side of the image is the Catena Mendeleev crater chain. The small crater near the north end of the chain is Richards. To the east of Richards in the top center is the larger Fisher crater. The cup-shaped crater along the bottom edge, left of center, is Benedict. In the lower right quadrant is the Harden crater. The remainder of the surface in this image is peppered by nameless small and tiny craterlets. Two small ridges are also visible in the interior, to the upper left and lower center.
This image was taken during the Apollo 16 mapping metric sequence, revolution 28. The selenographic coordinates of this image are 7.30° N, 142.10° E.
This picture was produced by cropping the Hi-res image slightly, rotating 90° counter-clockwise so that north is toward the top edge, then reducing it in size to 25%.
