[edit] Battle of yarmouk and your edits......

I suggest you to make a sandbox and first creat an article of Yarmouk there, like this as i did [1] for almost of of my articles, it will avoid confusion, and the current article will remain readable.

I am reverting your edits from Yarmouk's article and putting this edited article in a sandbox in your user page, once this new and improved article will get ready, then it should replace the current article at once. I hope it will not offend you. The maps are great and beautiful, but again there is problem with scaling. According to the scale shown in the map of the battlefront is just 3.5 miles long while it was 11 miles long stretching from tip of Wadi Allan ravines to the end of Wadi ur-Ruqqad. And the place where you have shown the battle being fought, is wrong, here the last phase of the battle was fought, i fear the source you are using is misleading or you are not completely familiar with the terrain.

I am sending you an image from David Nicolle's book, that shows the armies stretching on 11 miles front, and also i am sending you a google earth 3d image of battle field with the positions of armies I will inshallah help you a lot in understanding the terrain and making a more accurate map.

Moreover, there is no crossing over the ravines of Wadi Allan, and Muslim camps were not there as you have mentioned it in the map, muslim encampments were at the east of Yarmouk plain, it is not certain where exactly they were but Nicolle, suggested that there might be a series of camps in the eastern part of Yarmouk plain. I appreciate your work, I didn't mean to argue with you but I just want to improve you, and you are doing great work.

And yes, hill al jumma is wrongly placed, you can clearly see it in Google Earth and you might know it was named so as Amr's men gathered over it and it was in the right flank of Muslims army.

I have some new things to add, see this user page and I will be waiting for your comments on it.

Let us discuss all the disputed point the battle article, like camps, etc. Mohammad Adil (talk) 07:46, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Here is your sand box. Complete the article here, [2]. Mohammad Adil (talk) 07:55, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Also check this, what I have prepared to add in Yarmouk's article. One thing more, what I have learned from the writing the articles of battle is that, one should avoid the unnecessary details and emotions in the encyclopaedia article, I read your work it was good, but had some stuff which should not be there in encyclopaedia article. Mohammad Adil (talk) 08:01, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

  • Thismapis taken from Kaegri's work and is not acurate, kaegri's reconctruction of the battle is quit unacceptable and is rejected by many other including david nicolle, kaegri says battle was fought in 635 ! and lasted only one day !.

i am sending u a mail and init there are google earth images of the region + where armies were stationed and map from nicolle's book, i cant upload them here at wiki[edia asthey are copyright.

  • Check tthese images, the id is (omitted). open it g0 to inbox and check the mail. They are actuall images of battle field and will help you a lot in making 3d maps and moreover I have marked a white line in it that shows the Byzantine front, (+ a scale is there in corner), covering the ancient roman road to Egypt and the gap between wadi Allan and Wadi riqqad. Muslims front was just in front of it and was 10 miles long. The sources mention a bridge in wadi riqqad, there was actually no bridge but a ford some 500 m wide you can still see that ford, a safe crossing across the steep ravines of wadi riqqad, in google earth, my mistake that I have forgot to mark it. I if you don’t know where it was, then I will send u another image marking that ford.

For the battle event, I will suggest you that you must not follow amateur military historians, as they are not as reliable as the classic one. From classic once I mean like David nicolle for example. And for the event of the battle I will personally suggest you that you should follow, Akram’s work. As he himself was a soldier and knew how thing work in the battles, and what a general decided back then 1400 years ago, he being a soldier can give it more accurate reconstruction. I my self being a soldier, can judge what’s correct and whats a blunder, and I have pointed out many mistakes from Nicolle’s work, as well as from Akram’s ( but in Akram’s book, it was not related to military event it was the logistic base’s stuff, the logistic base of 3rd Byzantine army … I will inshallah discuss it later, and my assumption was supported by nicolle’s work, when I read the same thing suggest by nicolle). Well, there is a clear difference between a “Professional” and an “expert”. A professional is also an expert, where as an expert is not always a professional, this is the basic difference between akram’s and nicolle’s work. Akram being an expert and professional can give a more accurate view. Neglecting akram’s work only becoz he was a bit bias towards religion while writing is not fair ! Yes, he left the numberes for the battles, unclear and didn’t gave any estimates for them and relied only on primary sources. The same thing is done by most of the historians, they don’t give any estimates and usually copy other histoirians simply.

I totally disagree with Kaegri’s reconstruction, its some thing new ! not related to the event mentioned in the primary sources, and is some thing based totally on assumptions. Nicolle done a great job, he took the chronicles from Wadqidi’s work and converted them into modern military term and thus is a reliable source. He quoted akram in many places, and the section of Ajnadyn, fahal, and Damascus and other conquest and nearly a copy from Sword of Allah.

I hope that the maps you will make will be accurate, and again I am doing all this becoz I really appreciate your efforts to improve the article and thankGod there is some one else who can assist me there at yarmouk’s distorted article…. And man … I don’t like your maps, I love them ….. ! I will be writing a new article of Battle of Qaddsiyah, as the current article is way too poor for being an encyclopedia article, I hope you will help me in making its battle charts, if you will be free. Regards….. Mohammad Adil (talk) 17:21, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Check, my comments on the image page... they are excellent man... ! Are you done with the yarmouk article ? or still some thing is to be added by your side ? Mohammad Adil (talk) 11:23, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
So far I am done with the changes. But, it takes time to crank up an image so I published the changes I had created up until now. I will come with the new battle maps in a day or two if you can wait :). Thanks for your help. Arun Reginald (talk · contribs) 11:28, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WP:HAU

Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. If you have another method, you can use that, too. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Useight (talk) 22:19, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
