[edit] Kasargod Tulu

Hello Arun,

Since I am not an admin, I do not have that ability. You might want to report it to WP:ANI (if there is persistent vandalism), or perhaps to one of the Indian admins. --vi5in[talk] 18:52, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Well, please discuss that with the person who started a page on Beary language. Mr. Gnanapati asked my opinion about kasaragod tulu page with me & i just replied to him. I don't have any objection for you starting that page. You are also free to start pages like Mumbai Tulu, Pune Tulu, Coimbatore Tulu, Andhra Tulu, Dubai Tulu, etc. You can find a lot of tuluvas all around. --Crazysoul 09:00, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Then i've done your job easier, right? --Crazysoul 09:05, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

What do u want me to do? --Crazysoul 09:29, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

But why do u want to focus on Kassargod alone? Why not Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore or Coimbatore where there are significant no. of Tuluvas? --Crazysoul 09:49, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

I think there are different dialects for most of the languages. There is nothing wrong in keeping a record of that. Dialect can attributed to the influence caste, language etc. However in cities the language spoken by a spcific subgroup is that of common/standard/largest acceptable dialect. In the case of karanataka, there are only 65% of people's mother tounge is kannada. Muslims have there own language which is similar to urdu and hindi. its good to record all these languages and dialects

[edit] Re: Urgent Attention

Where do you get these books? :) Seeing as it is old, make sure that the information still applies to modern times :) To add a citation, just put the citation information between < ref></ ref> tags. Then right at the end, make sure you have </ references> (without the spaces between the angle brackets). If you're having trouble, simply leave the citations in the text and I'll fix it --vi5in[talk] 15:51, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Awesome! See if you can scan it or make a copy. You can perhaps inform the Googlebooks project about it. I'd be very interested in getting a copy of the book, if possible. Like you said, it is in terrible condition and it definitely needs to be preserved. --vi5in[talk] 17:01, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

For updating the Hanuman userbox. Remember you can keep I am a Hanuman devotee but that would mean the category will have to go under Wikipedia's policies. However, changing it to interested in Ramayana should save the userbox and the category! Out of curiousity, how do Keralites pray to Hanuman. I know that in North India, Hindi speakers pray with Hanuman Chalisa. Regards, GizzaDiscuss © 11:33, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes. I agree totally with you. I am a relatively new User. After I started making edits In Telugu related articles I encoutered a vicious group of people who are hell bent upon silencing others. [edit] Mappila Malayalam

Please do not try to frame your own opinions of relating Beary bashe and Mappila Malayalam and pushing that into the article. You have mentioned that you are not sure about the relationship between these two languages here. When you by youself are not confident about this relationship, how can you insert that into the article? Please provide proper citations if you really want to introduce Beary bashe into the article... ¿Amar៛Talk to me/My edits12:54, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words left on my talk page. Your knowledge or my knowledge of Beary bashe has no bearing on Wikipedia. That I speak Kannada fluently and you speak Malayalam fluently, does not mean that we can write whatever we want in those article pages. As you said facts are facts and if you feel that the relation between Beary bashe and Mappila Malayalam is a fact, then you should be able to provide a citation to reflect the same; and that will end the dispute. Hope I am clear... And please dont introduce personal blogs as citations as you did earlier, they will not qualify as per WP:RS, Thanks - ¿Amar៛Talk to me/My edits14:17, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Intolerance

Tremendous amount of intolerance is discenible in Wiki articles related to Kannada. Even the most logical and harmless inputs are being deleted ruthlessly and that too by persons taking turns in doing so. I am at a loss to understand their behaviour and am exasperated by their attitude. We used to see this kind of high-handedness in fifties and sixties, exhibited by Tamils (Tamils should excuse me). It is incredible to believe that Kannadigas, reputed to be very pleasant and reasonable people, are doing this. May be, a couple of persons with multiple Usernames and IP addresses are engaged in this practice. Kumarrao 09:07, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hi

Sorry for replying late. I saw your post on my Talk page. I agree that some unfortunate and unforeseen incidents happened which left me scarred. Since, more than enough citations are available now, I think anybody sensible wouldn't challenge and dispute them. Anyways, happy to hear from you. Hi Arun! Sorry, I have just been pretty busy. I am studying for the GMAT's right now, for my MBA. This is why I have been rather busy. My activities on Wikipedia have been limited to reverting vandalism and making minor changes. As such, I cannot be involved that much in articles. Thank you for your support for adminship. I will consider that sometime in the future, but I cannot right now as I simply don't have the time. I don't think I would be able to discharge by duties effectively. Thank you anyway, and keep up the good work! --vi5in[talk] 19:44, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Kuppaya - Kuppayam dispute in article Beary

Hi. Beary community uses a dialect called Beary Bashe in which it is called Kuppaya and NOT Kuppayam. Kuppayam is a Malayalam word! So kindly fix it. Thanks Abushahin 06:11, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Approximately 20 - 25% of Beary bashe words come from Malayalam. When those words are Bearified they change their pronunciation. For instance, Vellam becomes Bella and Kuppayam becomes Kuppaya. A Latin word loses it latin phonetic when it is used as an English word. It is true to every language of the world. So, in Beary bashe the correct pronunciation is Kuppaya. So please fix it. Thnaks Abushahin 07:51, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for communicating. You may read Dr. Sushila Upadhyaya's doctoral thesis and her other works on this subject to correctly defferenciate between Mipilla Malayalam and Beary bashe. The cultural capital of Bearys is Mangalore which is called Maikala, Mikala, Maikal in beary, where Beary bashe is being spoken. Kuppaya is bearified word for Malayalam word Kuppayam. Singular form is Kuppaya and plural for Kuppaya is Kuppanga and NOT Kuppayam. I have seen the word table in Mapilla Malayam page. It needs the following correction:

Mapilla Malayalam is nothing to do with Arabic, hence Arabic name is not a necessary. Of course both MM and BB have influence of Arabic. But I can provide you Arabic equivalent on Saturday once I am on My PC. This laptop doesn't have Arabic fonts. Thanks Abushahin 08:53, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

It's not for you to decide whether Beary bashe is the dialect of Mappila Malayalam or not. What we follow in Wiki is that we go by scholar opinions. If you have any scholarly work which say the same thing, produce them here or stop reverting. Gnanapiti 15:15, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Ha Ha...Joke right.Look, those Abba, Aga are more of words used by Urdu muslims; not Bearys.I prepared that table not by my own knowledge, but by collecting them from 20 Beary friend of mine.Nakk is correct and i admit that i have to change that.

Friends? Are you kidding me? Please see No Original Research. If you intend to do some original research please do it elsewhere and not in Wikipedia. Or else, publish your research paper and then we'll see whether to draw from the paper or not. Gnanapiti 18:11, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mappila Malayalam

Sadik Khalid seems to be a user of the language. Would very much appreciate if you could discuss here: ml:സംവാദം:അറബി മലയാളം

The word Malayalam could have come from the words Mala and Eelam (christensed, probably, by the tamils, note Tamil eelam) The word Keralam could have come from the words Chera and Eelam.

the word Eelam couild heve come from Eelam of of southern Iran.

[edit] Malayalee

Hello Arun, yeah long time no see! Well, the problem is that Daya Anjali objects to the fact that the sentence "Nairs had their own form of inheritance, martial arts..." is in the article. He claims that there are other communities with the same customs. I don't disagree with that. But sociologically, Nairs were known to be a Martial and Matrilineal/Matrifocal community. He also claims that Malayalam didn't evolve from Tamil and that it evolved independently, which is blatantly wrong. So yeah, that's the source of the fuss! All the messy details are in the talk page! --vi5in[talk] 16:31, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi arun, I firmly believe that Malayalam developed independently having more influence from Tamil. Having said that, the language has similarities with other languages in south india. It has loaned words from sanskrit and many foriegn languages. Its grammatic styles are similar to Tamil. Script is more similar to Tulu Script. Even then You cannot call it new language. The people of malabar cost was using languague which was different from Tamil even during Sangam period, though part of same kingdoms as that of present day Tamil Nadu. The people are different, the culture is different, the script is different. The words Mala and ali are there in many languages in south india and foreign languages like Sinhala, Thai etc. Its not known where the words come any paryicular language. And about customs of Nair cast, its not specific to nairs. More than that this is not the article that you can list out all the customs and tradition of aparticular community. You have a separate article where you can add details.
