The article as originally written falls into the trap set for many of these lines - namely that is a railway line in its own right. It is not - as can be seen from the map I have now put as the External link - simply the name given by the Southern to describe the services on the route, which run from London to Portsmouth Harbour. The section shown is just one part of the Arun Valley Line and as can be seen from the History I have now included, made up of distinct original parts. I can still see the reason for simply listing the stations on this section, however, since they are unique and unlike, for example, Wivelsfield (which had been included on the East Coastway, but is on the main line only).

I should be grateful if the train services I have included are checked (I took them from the Southern website) Peter Shearan 16:30, 21 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Route Map

There seems to be an error with the route map, the Guilford line branched out north from Christs Hospital and not south from Horsham. (SouthernElectric 10:59, 2 October 2007 (UTC))

The problem is more one of scale. There ought to be a gap between Horsham and Christ's Hospital for the junction to Guildford. In fact the current location of Christ's Hospital is on one side of a triangular junction of the line to Guildford. The line to Guildford started just before Christs Hospital, and there was another junction south of the station which allowed trains from Guildford to go directly to the coast. So the diagram needs to have a junction either side of Christs Hospital, and a gap north to separate it from Horsham. If I get time, I shall do it tonight (pending my replacement memory working - using work computer at the moment, home computer failed last week!).Canterberry 11:57, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
I've already altered the map, but not for the Guilford to direct south coast access. Also done some other work to.(SouthernElectric 14:00, 2 October 2007 (UTC))
Now done - hopefully! (SouthernElectric 14:15, 2 October 2007 (UTC))

[edit] Train services

In my opinion, listing 'current' train services (times / stations etc.) is problematic as they are likely to change and if not updated could cause considerable confusion (if not loss of money!). Whilst I know that such content might be useful would it not be better to just direct people to the relevant real-time Networkrail/TOC web site. If article 'padding' is required surely more history would be better. What's the consensus? (SouthernElectric 15:40, 2 October 2007 (UTC))

Totally agree. I do not think that this information on journey times/frequencies has much relevance to what is supposed to be an entry in an encyclopedia. Might be worth raising this on the WP:UKT page as a general discussion point. Canterberry 16:31, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
