Arul Pragasam is an active member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and had a part in forming the group known as EROS. Arul Pragasam is the father of musician M.I.A. A.K.A (Maya Arulpragasam) birth name (Mathangi Arulpragasam)]In an interview with Mathangi Arulpragasam she states that her record titled "Arular" was mainly named after her father's first name but that it is a shortened version of his name that the majority of the Tamil people know him by.
