Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/The Frosties Kid

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[edit] What is Wikepedia?

This is not intended to be read as Editorial Policy.

SOME EDITORS HAVE expressed concern about this article and have cited that such and such an article does not exist. The non-existence of an article should never be used as an argument for deleting an existing article.

In AfD, a common phrase is "WIKIPEDIA is not a pen and paper encyclopedia." I have no qualms about repeating the sentence (albeit a very overused phrase). WIKIPEDIA is forever expanding, it recreates itself second by second. It is not a closed book, and often deals with controversial news topics as they are happening in the world.

WIKIPEDIA has rules. It does not rely on the judgment of a single editor alone. As long as editors agree to keep to them, almost any article will stand.

An article, three lines long is not ideal. But its existence gives editors who respect the ideals of Wikpedia a chance to expand those three lines, providing sourcable infomation. The delete because its not going anywhere; delete because I haven't heard about it before; delete because I Googled it and it only had 45,500 hits mentality is difficult to understand.

Some Editors become bogged down with WP:MOS and WP:Notability rules. Those rules exist because Wikipedia would become anarchic without them. However, Editors often forget that Wikipedia is not just about rules. Wikipedia is about sharing informed, sourcable knowledge with the world beyond our desk top.

As per Mergers, I think that they should only happen when the information contradicts or overlaps a current article. In terms of The Frosties Kid being merged with Frosted Flakes, I think that would be a wrong idea. Frosted Flakes is a North American centric article. It is heavily biased towards the North American marketing of the product. The Frosties Kid is almost exclusively centred around the UK and Eire (A possible 70,000,000 viewers of the commercial).

Wikipedia expands second by second. That is its very nature. It lives because people contribute to it. It lives because most Editors respect other editors. They respect the time other editors have taken to phrase and source articles. Rather than push for deletes, they contribute and find helpful sources. That is the nature of Wikipedia. For the final time this article was put up for deletion because there was no room for expansion being that it was forced by some editors to be three lines long, AND due to the fact that those three lines did not correspond to the title or subject of the article. Thus with everything taken into account I found this article to serve no purpose other than be a waste of time and space. If someone would like to re-write it or start a new article be my guest!
