[edit] Review of AfD

[edit] By Jreferee 18:12, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

I was going through the past DYKs to see whether any DYK articles were deleted. Three editors voted in this AfD on a DYK article. In advance of sending this to Wikipedia:Deletion review, I thought it important to provide a detailed review here. Below is my review. Please place your comments and review below the References section. Thanks.

[edit] The DYK statement

The article is deleted, but the DYK provides enough information to review the outcome of the deletion debate. The DYK states "... that Operation Show Me How was a major Interpol drug bust concerning the transporting of heroin within the covers of the children's book Show-Me-How-I-Can-Paint?"

[edit] Review of Show-Me-How book claim

A search of Amazon reveals a book entitled Show-me-how I Can Paint: Painting Activity Projects for Young Children by Petra Boase. [1] It is a hardcover book published in June 1, 1995 by Anness Publishing as part of the Show-me-how Series. According to the CIO Magazine article linked in the AfD, the operation began about January 1998.[2] Since the operation began about January 1998, the 1995 Show Me How I Can Paint book could have been used as indicated in the CIO Magazine article.

[edit] Other references

In April 2000, the United State government's World News Connection reported that the head of the Czech National Anti-Drug Squad Jiri Komorous confirmed the correctness of information contained in a report of the French non-governmental Observatoire geopolitique des drogues (OGD) organisation released on April 20, 2000.[3] The report indicated that international drug gangs had intensified their activities in the Czech Republic from 1998 to 2000 and the trend was connected with the general scale of drug gangs' activities in Europe and large overproduction of drugs in countries which produce them.[3] Heroin and cocaine was packed in the Czech Republic and transported to Scandinavia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.[3] Nigerian drug bosses were arrested on Czech territory during the international Show Me How operation and that operation undermined the activity of these gangs in the Czech Republic.[3]

[edit] Notability

Per Wikipedia:Notability, a topic is notable if it has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial published works from sources that are reliable and independent of the subject itself and each other such that there exists enough source material to write a verifiable, encyclopedic article about the topic. The international Show Me How operation (i) was addressed in the Czech government confirmed report of the French non-governmental Observatoire geopolitique des drogues (OGD) organisation released on April 20, 2000, (ii) was mentioned in the April 20, 2000 news article by the United State government's World News Connection, and (iii) was detailed in an article in the June 15, 2000 Issue of CIO Magazine. Since enough source material appears to exist to write a verifiable, encyclopedic article about the topic, the topic appears to be notable.
