[edit] Deletion policy general discussion
-
- Respectfully, I'd like a good reason to keep as opposed to not having a reason to delete. Do we have any other AfDs for small TV stations to examine? - brenneman(t)(c) 06:26, 4 September 2005 (UTC)
- I have no idea. On AfD, in general, we adopt the principle: if in doubt, don't delete, so a specific reason to keep isn't really needed. Just the fact that without the article Wikipedia would have a small amount less useful, verifiable information. We aren't about to run out of paper. --Tony SidawayTalk 07:38, 4 September 2005 (UTC)
- Again, with respect, the phrase is "if in doubt". Other users may not adopt the same principles you do, so the royal "we" should pehaps be used with caution. I, for example, begin with the certainty that entries must have some merit, and have no doubt that articles without merit should be deleted. Introduce a reasonable doubt and I'll change my vote. - brenneman(t)(c) 12:46, 4 September 2005 (UTC)
- The injunction if in doubt, don't delete is enshrined in our deletion policy. So perforce all editors are supposed to use the same principles I do. You may adopt a different view, but if so you would hardly be in a position to claim that everybody else is out of step. Might I suggest that you consider changing your attitude on deletion to match actual Wikipedia policy?
- On merit, the article has the clearly and easily perceived merit that a person who begins reading it, by the time he reaches the bottom of the page, will be aware of the existence, location and purpose of JTV. --Tony SidawayTalk 14:10, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

brenneman(t)(c) 14:17, 4 September 2005 (UTC) - I do not subscribe to the doctrine of notability, which is a very controversial concept on Wikipedia. If the information is useful, neutral and verifiable, and someone wants to put it into an article, it probably belongs on Wikipedia. If in doubt, don't delete is however part of Wikipedia deletion policy. I presume that most of us subscribe in some fashion or other to Wikipedia policy; it would be difficult to hold a discussion otherwise. --Tony SidawayTalk 21:17, 4 September 2005 (UTC)

brenneman(t)(c) 00:10, 5 September 2005 (UTC) - My interpretation is pretty straightforward. I've shown you, chapter and verse, that deletion policy specifically requires that we don't delete if we're in doubt. Your suggestion of adopting a "guilty until proven innocent" approach is clearly contrary to that. --00:32, 5 September 2005 (UTC)
