Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Hamumu
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
sigh I'll make this as brief as I can. I am somewhat disappointed in the outcome here. About two days after the article was submitted, it was nominated for deletion for reasons, the only legitimate one being non-notability, which Mike Hommel (unregistered) later refuted. However, his position was completely ignored by those in charge because he had never posted before. To add insult to injury, Dmcdevit had the audacity to accuse all four people who were for keeping of being the same person. His post read:
"I'm pretty sure you are Mike Hommel. All four of you, including the creator of the article. Or else how did you happen upon an article about your company here when you appear to be an amateur here in the exact weeklong period that the article is up for deletion. Don't play dumb. Also, where do you get off saying Mike Hommel "makes a living" from this game and "hasn't starved," and that "there are currently over 500 users" if you are not him? How are you in a position to speak intelligently of such things if you are only some dipassionate Wikipedian voting on an article, and not the same person as the rest of the keep voters? And still all of your contributions have been only to this page. How can I conclude otherwise?"
I will directly answer each and every point given here, as I have to every one of Dmcdevit's posts on this subject. Mike Hommel makes a living from independent game design, as I know, because I have actually seen his website. That he has not starved is evidenced by this quote from his website here: "I get to do exactly what I want to, every day, and I can still eat!" in addition to the fact that he has been running this business for seven years, evidencing that he is able to make enough money to support himself and his family. That there are over 500 users is very easily verified by looking at the bottom of this page, where at the time of this posting it says: "We have 516 registered users". I have no idea who Geoff Howland is. As for me (Frogdude) and drgamer (the author), we are somewhat active members of the Hamumu forum community. drgamer, who had never before participated in Wikipedia, rightly thought that Hamumu warranted a page on Wikipedia. I, Frogdude, first heard about the article in this thread on the Hamumu forums, and decided I would do what I could to argue against it's unwarranted deletion. And the unregistered Mike Hommel has apparently not signed up or participated on Wikipedia before, probably because, like me and presumably drgamer, we never saw anything warranting our editing before. This marks my last post on the subject, as I'm sure you appreciate, if you care enough to read this, which I very much doubt. Frogdude 03:16, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
