BTW, the linked page claims that the bio is from Memorial & Biographical History of Northern California, The Lewis Publishing Co., 1891. • Weak Keep The Google test is not the be-all end-all test we sometimes take it to be. The real question is this - is someone who lost a statewide election notable? Honestly if it can't be expanded much past it's current form then I would have to say delete, but for now I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. --Bachrach44 16:29, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
• Delete. Modern candidates for election are voted "delete", we tell them that we'll keep them if they win. The same goes for historical candidates. Unless there is some further claim to notability, I can't see this being encyclopedic. Ifnord 16:50, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

• Expand if that source, and any others which can be found, provide evidence of being a notable pioneer or a notable war figure; delete otherwise. Having lost one election for governor doesn't put Mr. Reading over my bar for notability, unless there were something very significant about the campaign beyond most of its type. • Keep, has a biography in Memorial & Biographical History of Northern California. Since he was a politician, it would be a biography not a memorial. Kappa 05:23, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
• Keep. Just as another example, there are a bunch of state historical markers describing his activities, and the town of Redding, California was for a time named after him. Seems like a notable figure in California history, and while the article's a substub right now, it's certainly got potential for expansion. -Colin Kimbrell 15:48, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
