[edit] Mei Shigenobu
Fails WP:BIO: She is not notable apart of being the daughter of someone who is. Tazmaniacs 02:12, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

- Comment Social activist? Author? Can you proove the WP:Notability of such achievements? Is she
- "regarded as an important figure or [is] widely cited by their peers or successors."?
- "known for originating a significant new concept, theory or technique"?
- "has created, or played a major role in co-creating, a significant or well-known work, or collective body of work, which has been the subject of an independent book or feature-length film, or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews" ?
- Has her book "(a) has become a significant monument, (b) has been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) has won significant critical attention, or (d) is represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries, museums or internationally significant libraries." ?
- See again WP:BIO. Shigenobu fails all these prerequisites. One is not either a "social activist" because of one speech (I haven't found the guideline concerning Notability of "social activists", but she certainly doesn't fall in the Politician guideline, and is not comparable by any means whatsoever to someone such as Cindy Sheehan... - Thank you, I am quite familiar with WP:BIO; perhaps you should again review the part of WP:N about "A topic is presumed to be notable if it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." She was interviewed in two parts by Tokyo Broadcasting System following the publication of her first book, and her second book was reviewed in a Japanese magazine of Middle Eastern affairs. This apart from the complaints generated over her speaking activities (e.g. by the Israeli embassy). Basically, she has accomplishments and media attention separate from the fact that she's her mother's daughter; no doubt her identity helped her get the first book deal, but apparently she was well-received enough to get a second one (from Koudansha, quite a reputable publisher). If the only news coverage was about her homecoming, I'd agree that she's non-notable, but there's rather more here to say than that. Being comparable or not to Cindy Sheehan or whoever is irrelevant. cab 10:55, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- Reality check: One question above was: Has her book "(a) has become a significant monument, (b) has been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) has won significant critical attention, or (d) is represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries, museums or internationally significant libraries." ? The first OPAC I looked in was that of Tokyo's central municipal library. This has three books by her in its permanent collection. Is the library "internationally significant"? It's probably by far the most convenient to use among the small number of huge libraries within the largest megalopolis in the known universe; I imagine that scholars come from overseas to use it (in conjunction with other libraries), so yes I suppose it is. Does this answer the question? -- Hoary 01:48, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

- Weak keep It isn't done by comparison--her own published writings seem sufficient. DGG (talk) 05:18, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- Keep. Tazmaniacs's description in the nomination makes this woman sound like Barbara Pierce Bush. But Ms Shigenobu has actually done something and is recognized for this. -- Hoary 14:37, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
