[edit] Jim Henley
Removed prod tag, sending here for discussion. Original reason for prod: Political candidate and middle-school History/Debate teacher. Unelected, and article padded with school debate team accomplishments. Naconkantari 04:21, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Comment. Currently, the only source for this article is the campaign's website bio. To me, this counts as self-published information and advocacy, and as such isn't a reliable source for background information. Anyone wishing to see the article kept should probably extend the article to incorporate other sources. Demi T/C 04:29, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Delete He's a Democrat running for congress in Houston, so I've got to give him credit for shear bloody mindedness. But, he hasn't been elected yet, so no. - Richfife 05:00, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- I hope you meant sheer bloody mindedness, or did you have The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in mind? --Calton | Talk 06:59, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Errr... Yeah. What you said. - Richfife 15:55, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Delete per nom. Which would be me, since I'm the one who added the "Prod" tag. --Calton | Talk 06:59, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Delete if he gets elected, then maybe he will be notable enough for an article. --Maelnuneb (Talk) 15:43, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Keep, I removed the worst POV problems from the article and added a few links that could be used as reliable sources for the article text. This is a candidate for a national political office and is backed by one of the two major political parties. I found multiple articles discussing Henley in a brief search of the Houson Chronicle website. The article has the potential for expansion. Minus the POV, the article is verifiable and neutral. Notability "standards" are POV and subjective; our policies are best served by keeping the verifiable portion of this article. · j e r s y k o talk · 17:49, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Comment: I did a bit more editing. John Broughton | Talk 19:08, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
- Keep, I see no problem with this page after Jerysko's edits. Some Person 21:48, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Strong Delete - Non-notable. If he gets elected, he'll be notable, but not right now. --TonySt 22:24, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Keep, I think that for now, he might be eligable for a Wikipedia article, but if he isn't elected, then the page should be deleted. 207.218.205.234 03:35, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
- keep, y not? Mr. Sam 00:11, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- Reply Wikipedia operates on a "Guilty until proven innocent" policy. Articles have to justify their presence. - Richfife 00:49, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- Comment. Probably, it would be impossible to cover a U.S. Congress race, like this one, without biographical articles on the participants. I think the question here is, should a House seat race be covered, merely because it's a House seat race? If so, it pretty much demands biographical information on the candidates. - Keep. I think he is notable for now, but if he isn't elected, then the article should be deleted. -216.40.239.21 20:28, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
- Keep. Democratic Baptist pastor and public school teacher in Texas rare enough to be notable. Coach of national championship multiwinning team enough to be notable. Running for Congress too. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz 20:43, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
- Keep -- as per Jersyko and Hullaballoo Wolfowitz above. -- Sholom 15:24, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- Keep -- regardless of whether or not he wins or loses, Jim Henley has mounted a true challenge to the incumbent, and his loss would not be the end of his involvement in politics. At the very least, the page should be kept up until the election in order to provide voters with information. Including information on John Culberson (R-TX), but not providing at least a link to Henley's homepage would represent a bias. Mysticfeline 22:29, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
