[edit] El-A-Kru
Seems more like a personal page for a group; written like an advertisement and no notability stated. The external links aren't useful, there are no sources and Google results do not show any major media, just links to various music sites. Irk Come in for a drink! 03:15, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

- Keep and cleanup. The article certainly needs a clean-up/re-write and references added. But honestly, why not tag it as such rather than nominating it for deletion? And how on earth can you say "Google shows no reliable sources"? Observe the Goggle News results [1] - multiple articles from the main Caribbean newspapers about the band and its lead singer. Here's just one example from The Jamaica Observer:
-
- Antiguan singer Tizzy from the group El A Kru won a handful of awards at the recently held International Soca Awards. Tizzy's awards included Female Soca Performer of the Year and Best New Female Soca Artiste. Tizzy sang lead vocals on El A Kru's smash hit Expose, which topped Tempo's Cross Caribbean countdown for several weeks earlier this year.
- The band has also toured the UK as part of the Antigua Carnival,[2] and their music has been played on the BBC. [3]. I know nothing about the genre myself, but within 5 minutes of doing a proper search, I found more than enough reliable, non-trivial independent sources for it to pass Wikipedia:Notability (music) Voceditenore (talk) 06:22, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- Comment Wouldn't your Google search results suggest a separate article for the musician Tizzy, instead of the group as a whole? Also, the BBC Radio show host, Alex Jordan, links only to a porn star, not to a radio host (And lots of local bands play on the radio; what is so notable about that show in contrast to many other ones?) - Comment Not instead of in addition to. But for now we're considering the band. The coverage concentrates the headlines on her because she is the band's lead singer. Only one of the criteria for WP:Music has to be met. This band meets at least 4.
- It has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician/ensemble itself and reliable
- Contains at least one member who was once a part of or later joined a band that is otherwise notable
- Has had a charted hit on any national music chart.
- Has become the most prominent representative of a notable style or of the local scene of a city (in this case, a country, Antigua). The notable style is Soca music.
- Re your comments on Alex Jordan. Please observe the Wikipedia article on the one I'm referring to DJ Alex Jordan. The reason I chose the BBC example is that it is not "local". It's not based in Antigua. The BBC is the premier broadcasting company in the UK. Have a look at the wikipedia article on the BBC. Voceditenore (talk) 06:47, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

-
- Your search results a)do not have their own Wiki articles and b)do not extend outside of the Caribbean;
- The singer Tizzy is apparently still in the group and not a former member or new member of another group
- The article does not mention any chart progress
- The keywords there are most prominent, also not stated in the article.Irk Come in for a drink! 07:03, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

- Comment If Tizzy is notable now and she is the lead vocalist of this band... I think that's even greater indication of the band's notability than whether or not she joined a later band. But most importantly, you aren't seriously proposing that the principal daily newspapers of Antigua (The Antigua Sun),[4] Jamaica (Jamaica Observer),[5] and Trindad and Tobago, (The Trindad and Tobago Express)[6] are not reliable or prominent sources simply because they don't have their own Wikipedia article? And since when is being known primarily in one country (although in this case, it's three) a bar to a Wikipedia article? In any case, I've notified the projects which can provide more expert input on this (which should have been done in the first place) and we'll wait and see how the discussion develops. - Keep after filtering out for event sales listings there still appears to be more than significant coverage of the group on a multi-national level. Seems to be no question of them passing WP:MUSIC regardless of whether or not a singer did or didn't go on to join another band. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 13:37, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- Withdrawing nomination after more information has been apparent. Irk Come in for a drink! 16:51, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- Note I have now completely re-written the article, removed the copious hype and irrelevant blithering, and added numerous references. The previous version really was awful, and I'm sure had considerable copy/paste from the El-A-Kru website. So all's well that ends well. Voceditenore (talk) 17:18, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
