[edit] Clackamas High School
AfDs for this article:
Does not meet WP:N or WP:SCHOOLS criteria for notability. Tatonka79 22:29, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Keep. It's a large school that has a population of over 2200 students, so I don't see how this school is any less notable than an article about some small hick-town out in the country. This is a ridiculous argument.
- Keep. Notable high school serves several towns, has numerous athletic achievements. Based only on a cursory look; further claims to notability are likely present in this extensive article. Several Google searches reveal a strong presence in reliable sources: Clackamas Review search, Google News search, Google News archive search. -Pete 22:43, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Followup: I just added two citations, and formatted an existing citation, for some of the more specific claims to notability: the school's solar panels as an example for other schools to follow, and a national Teacher of the Year award (carrying a $25,000 prize) won by a teacher there. Also, as noted in a different AfD, WP:SCHOOLS is an outdated proposed policy - not appropriate for an AfD nomination. -Pete 22:58, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Then what is the current accepted policy? All the school notability lists I can find have been rejected. Surely there is some accepted criteria? Tatonka79 23:11, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Um, not to sound snarky, but: You're the nominator, so it's up to you to show us why this article should be deleted, thus it's up to you to find the criteria. If you can't find any, maybe it's time to rethink what appears to me to be a single-purpose campaign. Latr, Katr 23:30, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- That's the criteria I was using, but if one is to strike those down, then the burden is on them to provide the current criteria. Wikipedia talk:Schools seems to do a good job and is a current discussion. Most of these schools still would fail notability under these new proposals. Tatonka79 23:51, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Notability is the relevant guideline. As far as I know, there is no policy broad-brushing this issue, and rightly so; each case must be considered on its own merits, because schools and their reasons for notability vary so widely. The only school-related comment on Wikipedia:Notability is that they may be better merged with the article on the town they're in; but an AfD nomination is not the best way to accomplish a task like merging, because it can be more time-consuming than is reasonable for a 7-day process. I appreciate your inquiring about criteria; I hope you'll consider Katr's suggestion, and hold off on further strong action until you have a more thorough understanding of the standards. -Pete 23:37, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

- Keep. Needs some serious editing to remove listcruft, but school is notable for academics, athletics, and its unique architecture. --Sprkee 23:21, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Academics and athletics are found in every school. Here's another discussion page, Wikipedia talk:Schools, which through these criteria, currently being discussed, most of these schools don't qualify. Tatonka79 23:51, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Tatonka, why are you insisting on Sprkee providing evidence, when I provided exactly the evidence you request just above? To re-frame that according to the as-yet unadopted proposal you now link: The school has won regional recognition for its architecture (as a leader in solar-panel installation.) In addition, a teacher won significant national recognition in 1997 (which does not technically meet that standard, but I contend it does in spirit.) Your insistence on our meeting multiple unadopted standards, when you have admittedly not studied them in-depth yourself, is becoming a drain on all of our time. -Pete 23:59, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Comment Wikipedia talk:Schools is the talk page of the deprecated guideline page already discussed, besides which, talk pages are not policy. Latr, Katr 02:35, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

- Keep. A rewrite is in order, but there is definite evidence that there's enough material here to prove notability. Trusilver 23:46, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Please provide the evidence. Tatonka79 23:52, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Keep will be a good article, when trimmed as Sprkee suggests. This is of a quality that should be kept as a separate article--under any realistic interpretation of the guidelines. The sort of article to merge is one like the LaSalle High School. When the guidelines don't help enough, the way to judge is by consistent practice at these AfDs. Though precedents don't actually compel decisions , recent consistent discussions here are a good guide. DGG 23:55, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Don't see athletic or similar achievements. Provide something at a state or national level and that might be notable. Tatonka79 23:59, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- Weak Keep Article has substantial content, but desperately needs pruning and better sourcing. Alansohn 02:13, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

- Strong Keep Clackamas High School is perhaps one of the top 5 most notable landmarks of Clackamas County, Oregon with an expansive history and distinctive achitectural and technological developments. The artical does need some relevent updates and trims, but not deletion. Guerberj 22:53, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Keep since all high schools are inherently notable as I argue here. Noroton 00:20, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- Keep per Guerberj (and also Noroton). -- DS1953 talk 05:29, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- Strong Keep I agree with User:Noroton that high schools are inherently notable. Pablo Talk | Contributions 05:35, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
