[edit] Caste system in south India
Nominating article Caste system in south India for non-notability/redundancy; most of this material that is not covered in Indian caste system seems to be not notable; also the article is completely uncited and unwikified - I was starting to work on it but I think it's not worth keeping. - This AfD nomination was incomplete. It is listed now. DumbBOT 10:53, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
- Userfy for the time being with User:Jayasrinivask. The subject seems at least potentially worthy of an article. This is that user's first contribution. He needs a bit of practice with Wiki syntax and style, but should be encouraged to keep working on this. - Smerdis of Tlön 13:54, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
- Comment. I've done some basic formatting so it's at least readable. Should help (me if no-one else) determine its worth. Smalljim 00:15, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

- Weak Keep - The first half seems to be about the caste system in general, and could/should be cut or moved to the larger article. But the last half shows the beginnings of a good article about how the caste system was brought into the south, etc. It isn't Jayasrinivask's job to know all about WP, adding material to be wikified by others seems to be a noble and fine task for a new user. Indian caste system's mention of the book Early Evidence for Caste in South India shows the depth to which this article could be developed and the notability of a discussion of the caste system in South India independently (but interdependently, of course) of a discussion of the system as a whole. - Delete. 75% of the article is copied from Indian caste system. The rest is just a list of some castes that originated in South India. There is already a List of Indian castes. The caste system in South India is same as the caste system in rest of the India. There is nothing unique about castes in South India that deserves a separate article. - Merge the bits that aren't covered elsewhere into the existing articles. Smalljim 13:31, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- Delete Already covered in another article. --Deepak D'Souza (talk • contribs) 07:46, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- Comment I have removed the first half after carefully checking that the content was in Indian caste system; of what is left, there are two castes which I couldnt easily find an article for (Sali (caste) and Vokkalinga) and both are missing from the list of Indian castes. I havent cross checked the other entries to ensure they are mentioned on the list. So I think there is some new material here. John Vandenberg 08:18, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- Strong Delete We don't need an article on the Caste System in every region of India. One page article is enough. GizzaChat © 09:09, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- Merge to Indian caste system, as per Wp:delete#Merging. --SmokeyJoe 13:05, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- Merge non-duplicate parts into Indian caste system and/or List of Indian castes. --Kralizec! (talk) 16:42, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
