[edit] Awties
Incomplete nomination from the 9th of March. Appears to be a neologism of no consequence--nixie 05:03, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- This discussion, of what the name is for the decade from '00 to '09 is, came up at the start of the 20th century and again at the start of the 21st. Various words ("aughties", "noughties", "oughties", "oh-ties", and even "naughties") were suggested. If this is a neologism, it's one that's over 100 years old at this point, making it only the second oldest such "neologism" that I've encountered this week. ☺ The article title is of course the phonetic spelling of "oughties" by someone who has obviously never seen the word written down. ☺ The discussion of the difficulty in coming up for an equivalent of "the sixties" and the various words propounded is of course a quite proper topic for an encyclopaedia article, and one that I think to be encyclopaedia-worthy. The difficulty is, of course: What does one call the article? Keep, Rename to names for 00-09 decades, then Merge the naming section of 2000s to here. For decoration and flavour, add redirects for all of the other common names to names for 00-09 decades. Uncle G 16:22, 2005 Mar 15 (UTC)
- I haven't heard this referred to as "Awties" before, but I have seen references to the "Oughts". Probably needs work, as Uncle G suggests, but should be kept or redirected. Edeans 20:23, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
