[edit] Arts Towns
A mere definition of a self-defining neologism. Bishonen | talk 18:53, 1 September 2005 (UTC) Addendum: I nominated this some hours ago, when it was a mere definiton; it has now grown some flowing purple prose and a very ad-like style. It's hard to figure where it's intended to end up up—are some lists of current "arts towns" and their attractions on the way?—but the promotional intent is acknowledged on my talk page by the poster. This is wrong, no matter how worthy the cause. Wikipedia is not for supporting things. Please compare Geogre's vote below. Bishonen | talk 01:14, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
- Keep Term is in regular usage, like "steel town" or "mining town" DV8 2XL 19:38, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

- Strong Keep. This can expand into something good, including how "steel towns" and "mining towns" become "arts towns". Tonywalton | Talk 22:14, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
- Strong delete: Utter tosh. "Arts" + "towns" will get loads of Google hits, just like "cockroach" + "towns" will. "Arts towns" is a particular guide's terminology, and it's monstrously irregular in formation (see "steel town" and "mining town," above). The "history" section is a POV fountain. The "reference" section is a flat dump of tour guides. Finally, this is duplicate material, and marginally literate duplicate material at that. Wikipedia is not Froemer's. - Keep, 713 google hits for "santa fe" + "art town" [1]. Kappa 00:39, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
- Delete, what Geogre said. And most of Kappa's Googles are repeats: [2]. -Splash 01:09, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

- Kappa that is simply untrue; I have already explained this false reasoning to you [in this VfD]. Please read it and stop making this false assertion. Also Delete: I agree with the nominator. A steel town was so called b/c the economy revolved entirely around steel. An arts town is modern day tourist brochure speak. Dottore So 02:13, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
- Delete, adspeak. Zoe 05:23, September 2, 2005 (UTC)
- Strong Keep. Term is in regular usage, agreed in North America, particularly in the USA. Definition and extension of article very useful for high school seniors, and those given essay assignments in this area at schools of the arts. Good idea. Urbane Planner 02:23, September 6, 2005 (UTC)
- Delete. Judging from the Google hits, it seems just to be used in marketing by a few small towns in the US. Uppland 07:42, 6 September 2005 (UTC)
- Delete. 713 is a truly pitiful Google count for a tourist phrase. Mention it in Santa Fe instead. / Peter Isotalo 09:05, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
- Keep. Entries now include Canadian arts towns like Stratford, where I've been, and the arts town of Banff, home of the Banff Festival and an arts centre. The term is used throughout Canada in arts conferences, and in Quebec. European arts towns are needed. So it's valid. Keep, and expand. Shakespearean 02:01, September 10, 2005 (UTC)
