Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Templates

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WP:AFC/Templates

Leaving answers as to why an article can or can not be created on Articles for Creation can be a tedious and repetitive task. Therefore, User:Deskana made some templates that make this task easier. Other users have since added more templates.

Please remember to use the '''subst:''' command. It reduces server load (see WP:SUBST).

These templates are used when reviewing anonymous users' Articles for Creation submissions.

[edit] Decision templates

These templates are used to explain your decision on an article to the submitter and to other reviewers. You never have to use a decision template; you can just write out your description in your own words instead. Your decision (whether or not you use a template) should be placed at the end of the submission, just before the {{subst:afc b}} template. Don't forget to sign your decisions with ~~~~, whether or not you use a template.

[edit] Decision templates that can be used for declined articles

What to type When to use it What will appear
{{subst:afc exists}} Submission already exists on Wikipedia, under the name the submitter used
Declined. This article already exists in Wikipedia.
{{subst:afc exists|John Smith}} Submission already exists on Wikipedia, under some other name
Declined. This article already exists in Wikipedia. You can find it at John Smith.
{{subst:afc mergeto|Climate of London}} Submission contains useful, verifiable content, but that content belongs in an existing article
Declined. The proposed article does not have sufficient content to require an article of its own, but it could be merged into the existing article at Climate of London. Since anyone can edit Wikipedia, you are welcome to add that information yourself. Thank you.
{{subst:afc v}} or {{subst:afc source}} Submission has no appropriate sources
Declined. We cannot accept unsourced suggestions or sources that are not reliable per the verifiability policy. Please provide reputable, third-party sources with your suggestions. Third party sources are needed both to establish the verifiability of the submission as well as its notability.
{{subst:afc bio}} Submission is about a non-notable person
Declined. This suggestion doesn't sufficiently explain the importance or significance of the subject. See the speedy deletion criteria A7 and/or guidelines on biographies. Please provide more information on why the person or group is worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia, and cite reliable, published third-party sources, so that the information in the article is verifiable. Thank you.
{{subst:afc nn}} Submission is about a non-notable subject that doesn't fit into the other pigeonholes
Declined. This suggestion doesn't sufficiently explain the importance or significance of the subject. See the speedy deletion criteria (A7) and/or guidelines on notability. Please provide more information on why the subject is worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. Thank you.

{{subst:afc corp}} Submission is about a non-notable company/corporation
Declined. This suggestion doesn't sufficiently explain the importance or significance of the subject. See the speedy deletion criteria A7 and/or guidelines on organizations and companies. Please provide more information on why the organization is worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. Thank you.
{{subst:afc music}} or {{subst:afc m}} or {{subst:afc band}} Submission is about a non-notable band or musician
Declined. This suggestion doesn't sufficiently explain the importance or significance of the subject. See the speedy deletion criteria A7 and/or guidelines on musical artists. Please provide more information on why this musical artist is worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. Thank you.
{{subst:afc dict}} or {{subst:afc d}} Submission simply gives the meaning of a word or abbreviation
Declined. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a dictionary. We cannot accept articles that are little more than definitions of words or abbreviations as entries. A good article should begin with a good definition, but expand on the subject. Please try creating an article at Wiktionary instead.
{{subst:afc context}} Submission does not explain enough about the subject matter

Declined. This article provides insufficient context for those unfamiliar with the subject matter. Please see tips on how to better format your article.

{{subst:afc cv}} Submission contains a copyright violation. Please delete the copyrighted text in the submission.
Declined. We cannot accept copyrighted content taken from web sites or printed sources. Note that copyright protection is granted to all works automatically, whether it is asserted or not. Unless stated otherwise, assume that most content on the internet is copyrighted and not suitable for Wikipedia. Please write in your own words, and in continuous prose.
{{subst:afc cv-n|http://www.copyvio.com/page.html}} Submission contains a copyright violation, and you want to point out the source of the copyrighted text. Please delete the copyrighted text in the submission.
Declined. This article appears to be taken from http://www.copyvio.com/page.html.
{{subst:afc blank}} or {{subst:afc empty}} Submission is blank
Declined. We cannot accept blank suggestions. Please consider submitting to Wikipedia:Requested articles instead.
{{subst:afc adv}} Submission is essentially an advertisement

Declined. I'm sorry, but your article appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. If you still feel that this subject is appropriate for Wikipedia, please rewrite your proposed article in the form of an encyclopedia entry. Encyclopedia entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of published, verifiable sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the item being discussed.

{{subst:afc neo}} Submission is about a non-notable neologism
Declined. Neologisms are not considered notable unless they receive substantial use and press coverage; this requires strong sourcing. Links to sites specifically intended to promote the neologism itself do not establish notability.
{{subst:afc lang}} Submission is in a language other than English
Declined. This is the English-language Wikipedia; we can only accept articles written in the English language. Please provide an English-language translation for your article, or visit the Wikipedia home page to find the version of Wikipedia for your desired language.
{{subst:afc joke}} Submission isn't quite patent nonsense, but is definitely a joke
Declined. Your article appears to be a joke. Wikipedia only contains factual entries, so your comedic efforts cannot be rewarded here.
{{subst:afc npov}} Submission doesn't quite fit spam, but is meant to aggrandize the subject
Declined. Your article does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of published material. If you still feel that this subject is appropriate for Wikipedia, please rewrite your proposed article in the form of an encyclopedia entry, and make sure to avoid certain terms meant to show off the subject.
{{subst:afc not}} Submission is clearly not suitable material. Please do not use this template without an explanation unless the submission is obviously patent nonsense.
Declined. The proposed article is not suitable for Wikipedia.
{{subst:afc blp}} Submission is primarily intended to disparage the subject (see CSD G10)
Declined. Wikipedia cannot accept articles which are potentially defamatory. All articles about living persons must conform to our biographies of living persons policy. Attack pages are prohibited.
