If you want to make changes and try again, copy and paste your article into a new submission and make your changes there. Robert Albert George was born in 1955 to registered nurse Adele M. Saba and Antiochian Orthodox priest G. Robert George. He attended Boston Public schools, graduating from the Boston Latin School with honors in 1973 and thereafter from Northeastern University, graduating Summa Cum Laude from its College of Criminal Justice in 1977. After completing Suffolk University Law School in 1980, and internships in the Attorney General's Office, the United States Attorney's Office and the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office, George was appointed an Assistant District Attorney in Norfolk County, Massachusetts in December1980. Mr. George prosecuted cases while with Norfolk County District Attorney (now United States Congressman) William Delahunt's trial staff. He acted as co-counsel in fifteen (15) murder cases and acted as First Assistant District Attorney (former Superior Court Judge) Robert W. Banks' chief assistant until August 1982. Mr. George co-handled the prosecution of Bradford Prendergast in Massachusetts' first televised murder and death penalty case in 1980 whose conviction for first degree murder led to the reform of restraining order and stalking laws. Mr. George served as a Special Assistant Attorney General in the 1981 prosecution of Arnold Evans for the murder of Assistant District Attorney Edward T. Bigham III in Cambridge, Massachusetts co-handling the case and coordinating the safety of the cooperating co-defendant. He also served as legal counsel to the Ward Commission investigating and prosecuting corruption cases in Massachusetts public construction contracts. Mr. George entered private practice in August 1982 and became immediately involved in the case of Pennsylvania v. Banks, a murder case involving the deaths of thirteen men, women and children in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. As his law practice grew, Mr. George formed his own office in 1990 and has gone on to handle some of New England’s most celebrated and serious criminal cases. Mr. George was involved in the Big Dan’s New Bedford rape case representing Jose Medeiros, who was eventually acquitted. Attorney George has successfully defended Terrence Taylor, in the infamous Tiffany Moore murder case in which Taylor was found not guilty of first degree murder in a rare split verdict; Ted Jeffrey Otsuki, in a Suffolk County case involving the first degree murder prosecution of one of America's most wanted fugitives for killing a Boston Police Officer and wounding several others; William Bennett, in the nationally covered Carol Stuart murder case, in which Mr. George's client was framed by the real killer, who committed suicide when it was discovered that he and the Boston Police had wrongly accused Bennett; Anthony DiGrazia, in the New Bedford Serial Killings case; Robert Richardson, in a Suffolk County rape case in which Richardson, a National Hockey League scout and USA Hockey coach was acquitted by a jury; Shon McHugh, in a homicide case which caused the changing of juvenile transfer laws after he convinced a court to retain McHugh in the juvenile court in a case involving the stabbing of an MIT student in Cambridge; Ray and Shirley Souza, whose child abuse case gained national attention on the issues of false memory syndrome based on the expert testimony presented by Mr. George at trial; Christopher Hightower, whose entire 1994 triple murder case was covered by Rhode Island television and involved a disassociative personality defense. Mr. George’s clients have also included the victims and survivors of the 99 Restaurant quadruple murder case in Charlestown, as well as defendants in the United States Funding, Dime Savings Bank, ComFed Savings, and Barnstable Community Credit Union federal investigations. He also defended Edward O'Brien, a Somerville fifteen year old charged with first degree murder in 1995 in one of the most heavily covered criminal cases in Massachusetts history. This matter changed juvenile transfer laws for homicide in Massachusetts after George again successfully convinced a district court to retain jurisdiction of O'Brien. Attorney George also represents the Donahue Family in their wrongful death case against the federal government in the aftermath of corruption in the FBI’s Boston Office. He defended Rebecca and David Corneau in the Attleboro Cult homicide case, for whom he secured freedom after negotiating with and personally leading investigators to the Maine burial sights of alleged victims. Mr. George also handled the infamous Chinatown Massacre Case in which he defended Siny Van Tram for five counts of murder alleged to have occurred in 1991 in a Boston Social Club. Attorney George has defended crime boss Francis Salemme for obstruction of justice, State Police Sergeant Timothy White for drug trafficking, Bodybuilder CraigTitus in his extradition proceedings involving murder,“Black Widow” Margaret Rudin for homicide charges and businessman James Bunchan in his multi-million dollar fraud case. Mr. George’s most recent nationally covered criminal case involved his defense of Christopher McCowen for murder in the Truro homicide case of fashion writer Christa Worthington. He is a member of the Massachusetts, Federal and United States Supreme Court Bars, has appeared in cases the jurisdictions of Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York and California. He has been awarded Martindale-Hubbell's highest rating (AV) in criminal law, Lawyer of the Year Honors awarded by Lawyers Weekly and the Massachusetts Bar Association and has been selected as a Super Lawyer by Boston Magazine. He also has appeared many times on the television shows such as American Justice, Larry King, Oprah Winfrey, Phil Donahue, Today Show, Good Morning America, People Are Talking, Jerry Williams, Chronicle, Dateline, 48 Hours, HBO, MSNBC, CNN, Nancy Grace, Catherine Crier, Jami Floyd, Dan Abrams and Sally Jesse Raphael as well as on many other national and regional television and radio programs. His career was the subject of the award winning Our Times television program as well as of several profiles in many major newspapers and his cases have also been the subject of no less than thirteen books. In 1989, she joined the newly formed Women's Caucus of ACT-UP after nearly a year in the group protesting housing issues, governmental policy, and lack of action by city and state agencies. As part of the Women's Caucus of ACT-UP she and other Caucus members put together a "teach-in" on the politics and problems faced by women with AIDS. This was the first public forum to specifically address the spectrum of issues faced by women living with AIDS. Her contribution, an essay on the epidemiological differences observed by researchers studying the presenting symptoms and progression of AIDS in men and women was included in the Women and AIDS Handbook that documented the teach-in. The Handbook was, until the early 90s, the only document to focus on all the issues faced by the growing number of women infected with HIV and living with AIDS. The Handbook was translated into nearly 90 different languages. Later published in a revised and expanded form as Women, Aids & Activism by South End Press in 1990, Pokorny's essay provided the impetus for a lengthier treatise on the subject of epidemiological issues and her essay, while not appearing in the book provided the research for the expanded and revised essay on the issue that did appear. She was given credit in the book's introduction. Pokorny published numerous articles in Boston's Gay Community News. One of her contributions, cultural criticism on Madonna and "the lesbian gaze" called "Obsess Yourself" was published in the Gay Community News in 1989. It became an oft-cited work in the then growing field of "Madonna Studies." "Obsess Yourself" attempted to blend autobiography, cultural studies, minority cultures, issues of identity and Madonna. Quotations from "Obsess Yourself" may be found in essay collections as diverse as: AIDS and the National Body by Thomas E. Yingling and Robyn Wiegman, Acting Out: Lesbian Performances by Lynda Hart and Peggy Phelan, The Madonna Connection: Representational Politics, Subcultural Identities, and Cultural Theory, edited by Cathy Schwichtenberg and I Dream of Madonaa, edited by Kay Turner. Following her contributions to the Gay Community News, Pokorny began contributing articles on gay and lesbian culture to the fledling publication, Outweek. There she wrote humorous articles about everything from her passion for Coco Chanel to her admiration for drag queens. Eventually, she teamed up with writer Liz Tracey to contribute a weekly nightlife column called "Out on the Town." Pokorny worked as a production assistant on the film "Paris is Burning" and is credited as "Sidney Porknoy." Through her work on the film, she became interested in some of the ideas raised in the film and attempted to work them out in her writing. When Outweek ceased publication, Tracey and Pokorny continued their writing collaboration and produced a self-published zine called "Dead Jackie Susann Quarterly" which was heavily influenced by the house balls and the way that fame and celebrity was lived out in the ball rituals. Two issues of the zine were produced by Pokorny and Tracey in 1992-93. One issue of the zine is also in New York Univerity's Fales Collection of Papers by Contemporary writers. The issue is contained in a collection of papers donated by Dennis Cooper. The zine gathered press attention, for its humor and wit which was aimed at everything from pop culture to the election of Bill Clinton. The zine was mentioned in the Village Voice, was selected as an editor's choice in the 'zine guide Factsheet Five, and written up in People magazine. She has contributed art reviews, topical essays, film reviews and record reviews for numerous publications such as the British art journal Frieze, the Boston Phoenix, Artforum, Bookforum, Time Out, LGNY, and Rockrgrl. Pokorny also worked for Artforum. She started as an editorial intern in 1990 and by the time she left the magazine she held two titles: Associate Editor in charge of coordinating book reviews and Editorial Coordinator of the magazine's spin-off publication, a quarterly review of books related to art and culture, called Bookforum. Takeo Yasuda (1889-1964) was a Japanese military officer who, while serving as director of the Aviation Technology Research Institute during World War II, was a key figure in scientific and technological development for the Imperial Japanese Army, most notably his involvement in the early development of the Japanese atom bomb during the early stages of the war. [edit] BiographyA graduate of Tokyo University, he enlisted in the Japanese army and became a chief signal officer in the Kwangtung Army and was later appointed Director of Research Department of the Army Signal School between 1932 and 1934. While assigned to the Ministry of War, he served as Chief of Fortifications Section for Military Affairs and Military Administration Bureau until 1937 when he became attached to Army Aeronautical Technical Research Institute. Initially heading the 2nd Bureau, he was also Head of Field Aviation Ordnance at the Japanese Imperial Headquarters before returning to the Institute as director of Army Aeronautical Technical Research by the end of the year. [1] During the late-1930s, he became interested in nuclear physics specifically the potential for large energy releases through nuclear fission. In April 1940, by then a young army officer rising through the ranks, Lieutenant General Yasuda ordered Lieutenant Colonel Tatsusaburo Suzuki to prepare a report on the possibilities of developing an atomic weapon. Recieving a favorible report in December, Yasuda passed on this information to the Japanese Physical and Chemical Research Institute who in turn assigned the project to nuclear physicist Yoshio Nishina. [2] [3] [4] Between 1942 and 1944, he was commander of the Tokyo-based IJN 1st Air Army, head of the Army Aeronautical Department and inspector-general of Army Aviation before being relieved of duty in April 1944. Serving as a member of the Supreme War Council during the final years of the war, Yasuda also returned to command of the IJN 1st Air Army however he retired shortly before the war's end. [edit] HistoryThe first part of the Palermo metro is the actual Line B, opened in 1990 one month before the Italy 90 world soccer championships. The line had 6 stations: Centrale, Vespri-Policlinico, Notarbartolo, Imperatore Federico-Stadio, Fiera, and Giachery. The first two stations of the second line (today renamed Line A) opened in May 1993: San Lorenzo-Colli and Tommaso Natale, and two further stops were opened in 1994: Francia and Cardillo-Zen. In 2001 the line was electrified and extended to Punta Raisi airport, and the new stop Palazzo Reale-Orléans was opened. The old trains were replaced with new "Minuetto" trains in 2004. [edit] Existing tracksLineas A and B are actually operational, and extensions of both lines are under construction. Plans for lines C and D are in the process of being defined. Travel tickets cost EUR 1 for a single ride and last 120 minutes.
Line B has 4 stations: Stazione Notarbartolo, Imperatore Federico-Stadio, Fiera, Giachery. Trains run from 6:40 AM until 8:40 PM, on working days only. [edit] Future PlansWork is already in progress for the extension of Line A by adding 9 new stops: Roccella, Brancaccio residenziale, Guadagna, Palazzo di Giustizia, Lolli, Lazio-Restivo, Belgio, La Malfa, Sferracavallo. The rail tracks will be doubled, in order to increase train frequency between Orleans and Carini where actually trains run on a single railway track. Railway crossings will be replaced with underground tunnels and bridges. Work is partially in progress to extend also Line B by building 4 new stops: Porto, Politeama, Malaspina-Catania, Lazio-Libertà.
