Growing up in the Morristown Housing Projects Lex (One of six children) knew what it was like to be poor and black in the south. After his father left, His mother toiled away cleaning houses provide for all of them. Every weekend she would drop them off at the Boys and Girls Club of Morristown. Thats where Lex came across the piano. He would try to play as much as he could before he had to return home. Under the advice of Jim Claborn, his History teacher, He eventually worked a summer job and saved enough money to buy an eighty dollar keyboard from Carlyle music (a local music store.) and started writing songs. His younger brother Daniel also became interested in music and picked up the guitar. Daniel went on to master the guitar and has a degree in studio jazz from The University of Tennessee. In the early 90's Lex created a singing group named Soja and appeared on several major shows including "Entertainment Tonight" with Olympic silver medalist Lawrence Johnson and began writing music demos for Sony A.T.V.
