]]}}Articles for creation/2008-01-27 [edit] RationaleThere are a number of articles that this applies to, and no existing template seems to fit. It's more than just copy-editing, but less than a complete rewrite. When you create it, please replace the top of Computer power supply. I have left the Category tag as "Wikipedia articles needing rewrite" rather than create a new one; you might wish to alter that. I also didn't look too hard for an appropriate icon. Is there a good library page to browse?

]]}} Polytechnic University of the Philippines Laboratory High School (PUPLHS or PUP LabHigh) is one of the few government-subsidized schools in the Philippines (NCR) that offer a commercial curriculum which is focused on technical-vocational subjects like Entrepreneurship, Stenography, Bookkeeping (Basic Accountancy), Information Technology, Office Practice, Keyboarding, Business Mathematics and Statistics, and Business Communication Skills. It is a high school department of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and is located at PUP Mabini Campus, Sta. Mesa, Manila. It has been accepting enrollees since 1955. [edit] Mission and Vision
• Inculcate a strong sense of nationalism and social consciousness and develop a spiritual and moral uprightness. • Democratize access to secondary education • Promote competence and excellence among members of the academe; • Emphasize the advancement of the unique commercial curriculum which equips the students with basic office and entrepreneurial skills; • Further upgrade business skills through knowledge connectivity using information and communication technology [edit] History[edit] Humble BeginningsBefore being recognized as PUP Laboratory High School (PUPLHS), the school was first known as Philippine College of Commerce Laboratory High School (PCCLHS). PCCLHS started operation in the school year 1955-1956 with a commercial curriculum, by virtue of Republic Act 779, which converted the Philippine School of Commerce into the Philippine College of Commerce in 1592. The need for a Laboratory High School was deemed necessary to serve as a training station for the senior students of the Bachelor of Science in Business Education or BSBE where they can practice student teaching. The school started accepting enrollees in 1955 for sophomores and juniors. Headed by the first principal, Mrs. Apolinaria B. Seva, the pioneer teachers were Miss Virginia Aldana, Miss Purification Cecilio, Miss Ruth David, Miss Norma Diamante, Mr. Simon Diamante, Miss Fulcida Eligado, Miss Luz Gonzales and Mrs. Gloria Talastas. To relieve the heavy teaching load of the eight teachers, 18 new teachers were hired. Namely, Atty. Natividad Agana, Miss Lydia Camit, Mrs. Racquel Bernardo, Miss Elsie Borja, Miss Carolina Calderon, Mr. Fermin Cruz, Miss Rosalina de Lara, Mr. Ernesto Dumlao, Mrs. Luisa de Lara, Miss Soledad London, Mrs. Celia Rejuso, Miss Julie del Rosario, Mr. Tomas San Pedro, Miss Elena Sta. Ana, Mr. Francisco Santos, Miss Victoria Tanjutco, Miss Carmen Tupas, and Miss Lydia Villa. As PCC was elevated to a university, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, through Presidential Decree 1341, the PCC Laboratory High School became the PUP Laboratory High School. Through the years, The Laboratory High School was headed by very dedicated, hard-working principals whose primary concern was to produce exemplary-educated graduates who will excel in their own fields and bring glory their Alma Mater and to their country. Dr. Brigido Sadsad became principal from September 21, 1965 to June 30, 1970, Mrs. Esperanza San Vicente from July 6, 1970 until Mrs. Talastas, Acting Head of the Department of Business Education, replaced her in 1972. Miss Angelina N. Manapat was designated principal from June 1, 1974 to July 31, 1987. Mrs. Rosario R. Battung was the next principal starting August 1, 1987 to July 1992. Upon the assumption of University Presidency by Dr. Zenaida A. Olonan in July 1992, Prof. Josefina R. Tan was designated to head the Laboratory High School. Dr. Tan’s term expired on July 27, 1997 and was replaced by Professor Rosa D. Guirao. Atty. Liceria D. Lorenzo became principal in 2003 until Dr. Carmencita L. Castolo, the current principal, replaced her in 2004. [edit] Curriculum DevelopmentsThe PUP Laboratory High School differs from other high school institutions in the country in terms of the caliber of education being offered in a commercial curriculum. Tracing back its humble beginnings, PUPLHS (formerly called as PCCLHS) was established as a product of the PCC Administration’s dynamic leadership in business education. This commercial high school aimed to offer students an early business training, and to serve a training ground for aspiring teachers in college. A number of pioneer teachers taught the first batch of students in unique fields of study such as Stockkeeping Display, General Business and Stenography. Additional teachers committed themselves in the service for LHS to uplift the problematic status quo. The PCC High School students experienced the hardships of a different curriculum, and were forced to strive harder to meet the recommended standards. A revision of the curriculum took place and was approved on June 1963. A greater emphasis was imposed on prerequisite subjects such as Geometry, Algebra, and Biological and Physical Sciences, instead on Occupational Information. Social Sciences were also given importance as a response to the society’s needs for social awareness. An important modification in the curriculum also took place, in which, instead of taking up secretarial, bookkeeping, and salesmanship and retailing merchandising all at the same time, these subjects were considered as electives, and allowed the students to choose a certain field of endeavor they want to pursue. And this system still prevails in the modern LHS nowadays. The commercial curriculum of this institution greatly focuses on business subjects, which enables students to be competent and skilled workers in various fields. The contents of the curriculum include general subject areas, exploratory courses (bookkeeping, stenography, and entrepreneurship), keyboarding course, business mathematics, business communication skills, and office procedures. After acquiring the sufficient and appropriate skills and knowledge, students undergo “on the job training” – a special tool in molding the students’ capability of living and excelling in the actual world of being an office professional. This kind of training is specially offered in this institution; apart form the courses being instilled in the minds of students.
