Verneur Edmund Pratt was an American businessman and inventor. Pratt started his career working in sales at Sears, Roebuck, and Company. In 1924 Pratt published a book entitled Selling by Mail: Principles and Practice ^[1]. He started a company called the Sales Guild Company. In the 1920s he ran a small advertising company called Pratt and Lindsey out of 461 Eighth Avenue in New York^[2]. During this time period Pratt lived in a house now known as the Keeler-Pratt house in the Silvermine area of Norwalk, Connecticut. His laboratory and studio was the 1876 carriage barn on the property. By the 1930s Pratt was also renting an apartment in the building at 102 Bedford Street in New York's Greenwich Village^[3].

Pratt invented the Optigraph an early microfilm reader. This development led to the formation of the International Filmbook company to manufacture and sell microfilm reading equipment. An innovative approach to film reading was the use of cassettes that allowed for rotating the view of the film. Unfortunately, the expense of this innovation led to the bankrupty of International Filmbook ^[4].

Along with Edmund C. Pratt Verneur was awarded United States Patent 2999477 for a fire alarm (September 12, 1961)^[5]. Edmund Pratt and the estate of Verneur Pratt were also been assigned United States Patent 3388245 (invention attributed to Donald R. Larsen) for a Multicolor lighting apparatus (July 11, 1968)^[6].

Some fans of the anime Naruto believe that two of the characters should be together romanticly. There is several ways in which a fan could hint at this, including fanfiction and fanart. Fanfiction can be written by simply writing a fictional story containing the characters of Naruto in various situations they envision them in.

[edit] Male x Male Pairings

Also known as yaoi, boy love, or slash, this type of Naruto fandom is ever growing. There are multiple sites dedicated to it. The two most popular male x male pairings are Sasuke x Naruto and Kakashi x Iruka. There are many more pairings for yaoi in Naruto than heterosexual pairings (het) because there are more males in the series than females. There is also many more pairings, maybe because of this.

Many people believe a multitude of pairings in Naruto are canon, or most likely to happen. A few examples are, but are not limited to: Naruto x Hinata, Sasuke x Sakura, Neji x Ten-Ten, or Shikamaru x Temari.

These types of pairings get their name because they will never happen and are not expected to happen. People who write or illustrate crack pairings in Naruto either hope that this pairing will happen or know that it will not happen and is just doing it because it is fun. The possiblities of crack pairings are endless, varying from het (Sasuke x Hinata, Neji x Hinata) and yaoi (Gaara x Neji, Deidara x Sasori.) You can literally take anyone character and pair them up with any one other character in Naruto and find some piece of writing or art on the internet. It has no limits.

There have been many debates over weather or not Sasuke and Naruto will get together. Both sides have valid points. Sasuke x Naruto is deeply implied if you look at it that way, or implying exactly the oposite if you look deeply in another way. Though SasuNaru shippers bring up the interview with Kishimoto often.

The question stated was: Naruto and Sasuke kiss (accidentally) in the first chapter where they appear together. Does this add a special dimension to their rivalry?

Kishimoto responds by saying: "I didn't have any particular reason for it, other than to surprise the readers. I mainly did it because I don't think there has ever been a manga where two rivals have kissed. Also, by having this encounter, it was easier to set up the love triangle: Sakura, who had intended to be the first one to kiss Sasuke, has it stolen by her rival Naruto. Sasuke and Naruto are rivals, so there's added tension there. And so on and so fourth."

The valid point is, Kishimoto is implying that Naruto and Sakura are rivals because of the kiss Naruto and Sasuke shared in volume one of the manga and episode three of the anime.

The Honda XR-50R began production in Japan for the 2000 model year, replacing the "Z" series of the Honda mini-bike. Numerous changes were made from earlier models, including spoked wheels, plastic fuel tank with shrouds immitating the bigger race models, front and rear fenders were also styled up to look like the bigger competition units. Suspension was upgraded slightly in front and sported a significantly improved rear single shock absorber suspension system with design elements incorporated from Honda's Pro-Link designs. While the engine and chassis changed slightly, the body style changes made the XR-50R look like the CR-80,125,250 race bikes, at a fraction of the cost, and despite the lack of any type of performance compared to the actual race bikes, the racey look and affordable price tag sparked a "50" revolution. While the XR-50R was designed and engineered for a 4-8 year old, adults were a huge part of the overall success of the XR-50R model sales..

From the days of legendary coach George Haines to its current head coach Dick Jochums [As of 2007, 2008 - John Bitter], Santa Clara has remained committed to developing champions not just in the pool but in all walks of life. Discipline, sportsmanship, hard work, and team involvement are stressed throughout the program. Through the dedication of its swimmers, coaches, and parents, Santa Clara Swim Club carries on this tradition, continuing to contribute to the sport of swimming in the United States.

The club was founded by George Haines, considered by many to be the finest swim coach in the history of the sport. Starting the club with just 13 swimmers at the old Santa Clara High School, Haines coached the club for 23 years, leaving Santa Clara in 1974. During his tenure, SCSC placed 26 swimmers on Olympic teams. Following Haines, Mitch Ivey, a former Olympic medalist and Santa Clara swimmer, took over the helm and steered the club for five years. In 1976, Ivey placed three swimmers on the Olympic team. When Ivey left in 1981, the job of head coach was passed to Don King. During King’s brief stint with the program, many younger swimmers continued to be developed as the club moved forward. In 1985, Jay Fitzgerald was named head coach. Annihilate the Hero is a metal band based in Carbondale, Illinois.

Annihilate the Hero was created when the members of Carbondale IL band Collapse changed their name, due to another band already performing under that moniker. They recorded a self-titled EP at Room 12 Studios in 2002. Guitarist Aaron Jones then left the band, and was replaced by Justin Malinee.
The new line-up would spend late 2003 and 2004 writing new material, while also sharing the stage with such acts at Superjoint Ritual, Hatebreed, Chimaira, God Forbid, Full Blown Chaos, Pissing Razors, Hemlock, and many others. The band also released "One Reason to Hate," again recorded at Room 12 Studios, in 2004. Soon after the release of the album, drummer Jason Bryant left the band.
This gave way to the current Annihilate the Hero line-up, with Malinee moving to drums. 2005 saw the growth of the 3-piece form, with more aggressive song-writing. This was displayed on their 2005 release "Images of Disgust," recorded, mixed, and mastered by the band themselves. The band took to the road more frequently on this release, traveling throughout Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Kansas, Michigan, and Indiana. In late 2005, AtH played with Nuclear Blast Records band Bleed the Sky. They would later go on to join them, along with Mediaskare Records band Silent Civilian, on tour dates in Texas, Iowa, and Illinois in 2006.
The band has since released another full-length, entitled "Betrothing Dejection," again recorded, mixed, and mastered by the band themselves.

Magerit is the name of the second most powerful computer in Spain, according to the TOP500 list of supercomputers. This computer is installed in the Computer Science School of the Technical University of Madrid.

Magerit was installed on 2006 and reach the 9º rank of Europe and the 34º in the world^[1]. In the first quarter of 2007, was upgraded and join the Spanish Supercomputing Network.

Magerit is the first name of the current city of Madrid. The name means something like "lot of water".

Magerit is a cluster of 1200 nodes eServer BladeCenter JS20 under a SLES9 Operating System. Each node has two processors IBM PowerPC single-core 970FX (64 bits) with 2'2 GHz, 4 GB of RAM and 40 GB of local hard disk. The system has a distributed storage system with 65 TB of capacity.

All the nodes are interconected with a low latency and high bandwith network called Myrinet and two auxiliary Ethernet networks for administration task.

Magerit process batch jobs with high computing needs, like investigations about the universe, simulations of materials... This jobs were planified by a queue manager.

The system has two different type of access:

• CeSViMa filling the forms in the CeSViMa web page.
• By means of the Spanish Supercomputing Network. The access committee evaluates all the projects and can assign resources in Magerit.

Review - Strindberg's 'The Stronger' The Stronger

On the surface, there’s nothing particularly complicated about Strindberg’s play ‘The Stronger’. Two women – two actresses – run into each other in a restaurant on Christmas Eve. One is married and has been out shopping for presents for her family, the other is unmarried and is sitting alone in the restaurant reading magazines and drinking. We are told almost nothing about these women – they are not even important enough to have names; Strindberg calls them simply Mrs. X and Miss Y. And the entire play (all 6 pages of it) consists of nothing more than a single conversation between these two women. There is no action, no real plot development, nothing particularly out of the ordinary. In fact, one of the women, Miss Y, doesn’t even speak in the entire performance.

And yet, in this one simple scene Strindberg creates an episode of incredible, poetic power – a snapshot of life so intense, so powerful, that it rivals Beckett at his best. Like a Kafka short story, ‘The Stronger’ is rich in allegory and lends itself to many layers of interpretation; it is a play that takes little more than ten minutes to read / perform, but that one can easily spend hours thinking about afterwards. It is moreover, a powerful play, one that makes a deep impression, and leaves one with the illusion that one has travelled far and seen much, even though the entire thing is actually incredibly short.

What is it that makes the play so powerful? To begin with, it is an immaculate piece of stagecraft. It is a tribute to Strindberg’s genius that despite the fact that Miss Y says nothing right through the play, the interaction between her and Mrs X is in every sense of the term a dialogue. Strindberg uses a combination of stage directions and reactions from Mrs. X to ensure that Miss Y is more than a passive listener and that her responses (or at any rate, Mrs. X’s interpretations of her responses) influence and guide the thread of the scene.

Second, ‘The Stronger’ is one of those fascinating pieces of writing that lend themselves to multiple (and conflicting) interpretations. As the play progresses, we discover that Miss Y and Mrs. X are rivals for more than theatre roles – Miss Y is having / has had an affair with Mrs. X’s husband. Except that the play never really corroborates this – we only know that by the end of the scene Mrs. X believes that this is true. So the play lends itself to two very different readings: in the first, Mrs. X is an astute wife who discovers the truth about Miss Y and her husband; in the second, Mrs. X is a pathetic and paranoid woman who’s insecurity about her marriage has brought her to slander. This in turn, leaves the question of who is ‘The Stronger’ one (which is, after all, the key to the play) open. Is Miss Y, who chooses to maintain her silence against Mrs X’s accusations (whether false or true) stronger in her independence? Or, as Mrs. X would have it, is she the stronger one, because she has accepted the truth about her husband and found a way to go on?

This divergence of interpretation brings us to the first of the allegories implicit in the play – the debate about gender roles. In this simple little episode, Strindberg captures wonderfully the fundamental duality of the role women play in society. In Mrs. X we have the woman as caring mother and devoted wife, a person who has lost all individuality and been completely reshaped by the demands of her husband, a woman who glories in the stability and warmth of the family life she has achieved. On the other hand, we have Y, who is the independent woman, who lives her life her own way and is able, because of her independence to shape others to her personality, but who ultimately ends up alone in a restaurant on Christmas Eve. Obviously these are stereotypes, but Strindberg’s point is precisely to make them stereotypes and set them off against each other, so that what is essentially a quarrel between two women, becomes a larger debate about the role of women in society. What makes this particularly interesting, of course, is that Strindberg is not a writer one associates with sensitive portrayals of women (see for instance, the grotesque caricature that is Miss Julia).

But there is, I think, a deeper allegory here. In choosing to silence the character of Miss Y and showing us how Mrs X is able to carry on a conversation (making accusations, drawing inferences) with someone who never actually speaks to her at all, Strindberg has created an image of man’s interaction with God. In the play, Miss Y is not really an individual, but more a sort of human mirror that Mrs X uses to understand and interpret her own life, surfacing her discontent and insecurity and reconciling herself to them by means of a dialogue that is entirely one sided. Miss Y does not need to say anything, and what she thinks or knows has no part in the development of the story. Even the facts are irrelevant here – by the end of the play we do not know what has actually happened, we only know what Mrs. X believes. ‘The Stronger’ is thus a fascinating portrait of both the way individuals can think through the contradictions in their own lives, using another (or the idea of another) as a mere sounding board for their own thought processes, and of the fundamentally conditional nature of truth.

Hindås is the Swedish town in the Härryda commune, its area is 2.87 sq km. As of 2000 it had about 2000 inhabitans. It lies in between Gothenburg and Borås and belongs to Västra Götalands province.

Hindås used to be well-know winter sport resort. There were many art nouveau mansions built there in the beginning of the 20th century, a popular holiday village for wealthy citizens of Gothenburg.

Kurt Tucholsky had a house there, and he had lived there from 1930 until his death in 1935.
