]]}} John Cozman (b. August 28, 1964) is a Canadian professional wrestler, known by his ring name "Principal" Richard Pound who competes in North American independent promotions, most notably as a mainstay of Stampede Wrestling during the 1980s and late 1990s. [edit] CareerBorn in Regina, Saskatchewan, Cozman became a fan of professional wrestling and often attended local house shows with his father growing up. Interested in pursuing a career in professional wrestling, he eventually became friends with wrestling photographer Bob Leonard. In 1984, Leonard introduced him to Archie Gouldie and began training under him soon after. Working with Gouldie during the next six months, he eventually made his professional debut in Stampede Wrestling in early 1985. Touring the Maritimes with Emile Dupree's Grand Prix Wrestling with Gouldie and Leo Burke during the summer as Danny Young, he also traveled to the United States following Gouldie and Burke to Texas where they wrestled for promoter Joe Blanchard. During the next five years, Cozman would work exclusively for Stampede Wrestling, feuding with Kerry Brown before the promotion closed in 1990. Retiring from professional wrestling, Cozman worked as a security guard during the next several years although, during 1995, he and Venom would spend three months training wrestlers for the Prairie Wrestling Alliance although the promoter later decided against starting the promotion. [1] In 1997, he became involved in Wild West Wrestling when the promotion began holding events in Saskatchewan. Later that year, while at a WWF house show in Regina with Bob Leonard, Bruce and Owen Hart, an outline for a in-ring persona was discussed in order to arrange a tryout with the World Wrestling Federation. However, Cozman talked with Jim Cornette about entering the WWF, Cozman and Bruce Hart continued working on a character outline and later brought in Cozman with the character when he reopened Stampede Wrestling in 1999. Making his debut as "Principal" Richard Pound, Cozman soon began one of the most dominant "heels" in the promotion defeating Tiger Khan and Greg Pawluk in a three-way match for the Stampede British Commonwealth Mid-Heavyweight Champion in Calgary, Alberta on November 5, 1999. Cozman would become the first champion since the promotion closed in December 1989. Defeating Tatanka for the Stampede North American Heavyweight Championship in April 2000, he later lost the Stampede British Commonwealth Mid-Heavyweight title to Tiger Mahatma Khan on June 2 and the Stampede North American title to Bruce Hart on April 13, 2001. The following month, he was backstage with several other Canadian independent wrestlers such as "Wildman" Gary Williams at Monday Night Raw when the WWF toured Alberta in late May. Although he did not compete at the event, he was later invited by the WWF for a tryout match in Tacoma or Seattle, Washington in June. [2] Appearing at the 4th annual Brian Pillman Memorial Show, he represented Stampede Wrestling in an interpromotional match loosing to East Coast Wrestling Association veteran J.R. Ryder in Cincinnati, Ohio in August 2001. In negotiations with Sonny Onno to tour Great Britain with WrestleXpress in March 2002, [3] he later faced Bruce Hart on the undercard of the Stampede Wrestling 50th Anniversary Show at the Ogden Legion in Calgary, Alberta on May 1, 2003. Infobox Wrestler
]]}} Dave Ruhl was a Canadian professional wrestler who during his near 30-year career competed in North American regional promotions in Western Canada and the Canadian Prairies as well as in Japan and other international promotions. A longtime mainstay of Calgary-based Stampede Wrestling during the 1960s and early 70s, he engaged in memorible feuds with Sweet Daddy Siki and The Stomper over the Stampede North American Heavyweight Championship. [1] He was also a close associate of promoter Stu Hart and remained his top booker for much of his time in Stampede Wrestling. [2] [edit] CareerBorn in Watts, Alberta, he was living in nearby Hanna as a cattle grain farmer when he was encouraged by his uncle Ray Steele to pursue a career in professional wrestling during the mid-1940s. Making his debut in 1946, he appeared with many later Stampede Wrestling veterans while in Stu Hart's Klondike Wrestling during the late 1940s. [2] By 1951, he began wrestling full time and eventually defeated Al "Mr. Murder" Mills for the vacant NWA Canadian Championship in Calgary, Alberta on November 13, 1959 (although other sources claim Ruhl won the title in 1955). Contining to tour North America with the National Wrestling Alliance during the next ten years, including the Arizona and Texas territories as the masked wrestler The Hooded Wasp, [2] he would later win the NWA Canadian Heavyweight Championship a record six times defeating Sweet Daddy Siki, The Beast, Stan Stasiak, Danny Lynch and Abdullah the Butcher respectively. He would be the last NWA Canadian Heavyweight Champion, holding the title until being forced to surrender the championship due to injury in 1972. Facing Gene Kiniski in a match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in Calgary on July 12, 1967, [3] Ruhl eventually began competing for Stu Hart's Stampede Wrestling promotion during the late 1960s winning the Stampede North American Championship twice between 1969 and 1970 defeating The Stomper and Abdullah the Butcher respectively. Touring Japan in 1969 and again in 1972, he briefly held the Stampede International Tag Team Championship with Tiger Joe Tomasso in May 1972 although they lost the titles back to Chin Lee & Sugi Sito later that month. Suffering a career ending injury in 1974 as a result of a head injury sustained in a fight with Carlos Colon, [2] Ruhl retired to farm with his brother Henry and eventually died in Medicine Hat, Alberta on December 21, 1988.
