[edit] Voltaire's Socrates (play)

If you want to make changes and try again, copy and paste your article into a new submission and make your changes there. This is not to be confused with the other plays about Socrates by the same name. Written by Voltaire, the famous French philosopher in the mid 17th Century, this play in three acts concerns itself with Socrates and the events just before his death during his trial. It is heavy with satire specifically at government authority and organized religion. The main characters besides the titular role is that of the priest Anitus, his entourage, Socrates' wife Xantippe, several judges, and some children Socrates has adopted as his own. Like more historical accounts by Herodotus, Plato, and Xenophon, the playwright shows Socrates as a moral individual charged with baseless accusations by a conspiracy of corrupt Athenians or Athenian officials although Voltaire implies that the wrongdoers are a select few. Unlike the historical account, Socrates deals with several judges whereas his real life counterpart receives his punishment of death by hemlock by a jury of 500 Athenians. The presence or mention of Socrates' most well-known students such as Plato, Antisthenes, Zeno of Critium, and others is replaced by unnamed disciples whom only have a few token lines at the end of the play. Socrates is also portrayed as a monotheist and a victim of religious persecution, an interpretation that is not generally shared by modern scholars and historians. Generally, this is not the most well-known of his works in comparison with Letters on the English which Voltaire published in 1778 or the Dictionnaire philosophique published earlier in 1764. However, hints of his contempt for government and religion are apparent here which later influenced leaders in the American Revolution and the French Revolution. Stanford, Mn is the name of an abandoned townsite/ Ghost Town in Stanford Township, Isanti County , Minnesota. The Ghost Town was located near the intersection of County Rd. 10 and 269th Ave./ Sullivan Woods Trail [edit] HistoryStanford had a post office from about 1898 to 1901, a sawmill on the creek that lay about a mile south of the town, and a school on a half-acre site directly across from the post office. The school existed from about 1890 until 1945, when it was converted into a private residence. The school was burned because it was in vast disrepair in 1995, and was replaced with a new home. This community was settled by primarily English settlers from the Eastern United States, although Germans and Scandinavians followed. The town was never more than a farming community or crossroads community- the last remnant was the country school. [edit] TodayToday, there is no evidence of anything ever being at the site, except for two homes that sit on one acre lots removed from larger parcels, which are common in this rural area. Sullivan Woods Trail has increasingly become upscale, with large homes in the ancient burr oak forest, with many residents being exurban commuters and residents, in contrast to the original population. Also, the liner notes are expected to be written in crayon; yellow, orange and blue to be specific. Album may contain as many as 27 songs, although at least 3 or 4 in the middle will consist solely of a dog barking, yelping or rolling over on command. There might be a three fingered Amish girl somewhere in the mix; this is, however, a rumour and cannot be finalized at this time. Finally, it should be noted that Josh Homme will use one of those giant mexican guitars with only three strings at least for one song. Rock the nation, in translation. [edit] Sources1. Mega, Mo. [edit] Exxon Mobil - Human Rights issue in Aceh, Indonesia

This request for creation has been reviewed. The reviewer comments appear below the article text.
If you want to make changes and try again, copy and paste your article into a new submission and make your changes there. [edit] Exxon Mobil[[4]]’s operations in Indonesia:Aceh[[5]] is located on the northern tip of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The region is rich in natural resources such as oil and natural gas. In 1992, it was reported that Aceh provided 15% of Indonesia's total exports, and the value of the oil and gas fields was estimated in 2003 to generate US$1.2-1.5 billion annually. [edit] History of the Aceh gas fields:In 1968, Mobil began operating the Arun gas fields, which are owned by the Indonesian state oil company, Pertamina. In 1971, Mobil Oil Indonesia discovered massive reserves of natural gas in north Aceh, which led to the creation of the Lhokesemawe Industrial Zone (ZILS.) After Exxon bought Mobil in 1999, the merged company, which is based in Irving, Tex., took over the management of Arun. The gas fields there, until their closing in March, contributed to the Indonesian budget with about $1 billion in revenue annually. Aceh, the home for the natural gas field has been witnessing an armed resistance organized under the banner of the Free Aceh Movement[[6]]. From 1989 to 1998, the Indonesian government designated Aceh as a Military Operation Area, with thousands of troops assigned to defeat the armed independence force. [edit] Exxon Mobil’s role in the region:Exxon Mobil Corporation, along with its predecessor companies, Mobil Oil Corporation and Mobil Oil Indonesia hired military units of the Indonesian national army to provide security for their gas extraction and liquefaction project in Aceh, Indonesia. Members of these military units have been accused of perpetrating human rights abuses against local villagers. ExxonMobil was accused of not taking any proactive measures against these activities by the security forces employed by them. But fearing for the lives of its employees after a series of attacks, Exxon Mobil, the world's largest oil company, shut down its Arun natural gas operations in Aceh in March 2001. [edit] The Litigation:The International Labor Rights Fund[[7]] has taken on the challenge of seeking justice for local victims of these abuses. On June 20, 2001, ILRF filed an ATCA claim in the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia, No. 01-1357 CIV, on behalf of 11 villagers from Aceh who were victims of human rights abuses by Exxon Mobil's security forces. The general theory of the case is that Exxon Mobil knowingly employed military troops to protect its operations, and the company aided and abetted the human rights violations through financial and other material support to the security forces. In addition, the case alleges that the security forces are either employees or agents of Exxon Mobil, and thus Exxon Mobil is liable for their actions. [edit] The legal proceedings:Exxon Mobil filed a routine motion to dismiss ILRF's claim, and ILRF filed a response against this motion on December 14, 2001. The court heard arguments in the case on April 9, 2002, and a decision was expected to be made within 60 days but it is yet to be made. In 2004, the presiding judge in the case asked for additional briefing on the impact on ILRF's case against ExxonMobil of the Supreme Court's decision in Sosa v. Alvarez-Machain, in which the Supreme Court upheld the use of the Alien Tort Claims Act in cases like ILRF's ExxonMobil suit. ILRF filed its brief in the case in August 2004. The parties continue to await the court's decision on the motion to dismiss. [edit] Exxon Mobil’s Response:The company denies these accusations and filed a motion to dismiss the suit, which is still pending. Exxon Mobil's primary defense is that the human rights violations which were occurring were not a result of specific intention of the organization and therefore cannot be held liable. In 2002, ExxonMobil issued an initial press release concerning the pending litigation in US District Court involving their operations in Aceh, Indonesia, which have been accused of malfeasance against women. ExxonMobil stated: “We are disturbed by allegations that ExxonMobil or its affiliate companies are in any way involved with human rights abuses in Aceh, and will continue to vigorously defend ourselves. ExxonMobil condemns the violation of human rights in any form. We believe the lawsuit filed by the International Labor Rights Fund (ILRF) containing these allegations is without merit. There is no claim of direct wrongdoing by ExxonMobil. The ILRF claims are based on the alleged conduct of the Indonesian military in a civil war.” The company later petitioned U.S. District Court Judge Louis F. Oberdorfer, the presiding judge in the case, to solicit an opinion from the State Department whether this suit would have an adverse effect on U.S. foreign policy. On May 10, Judge Oberdorfer sent a letter to the State Department requesting "out of an abundance of caution, in the tense times in which we are living…whether the Department of State has an opinion (non-binding) as to whether adjudication of this case at this time would impact adversely on interests of the United States" and seeks specifics about "the nature and significance of that impact." The letter stated that the plaintiffs alleged that "Exxon Mobil Corporation and several of its subsidiaries and affiliates ('Exxon') are legally responsible for human rights violations suffered by plaintiffs at the hands of an Indonesian Army unit engaged by Exxon to provide security for its Arun Project in Aceh, Indonesia." The State Department argued that the Indonesian government would view judicial scrutiny of the company's conduct as a referendum on the human rights record of the Indonesian armed forces, which would dissuade it from cooperating with the United States in counter terrorism. The State Department sent a response to Judge Oberdorfer on July 29, 2002 arguing that the case should be dismissed. [edit] The incident’s effect on the Company:ExxonMobil received a 14% rating from the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index in 2004. The company had previously lost points because after the merger it failed to adopt some of the LGBT-friendly policies previously put into place at Mobil. King Of Foxes is the second novel in the Conclave of Shadows trilogy written by fantasy novelist Raymond E. Feist. It primarily concerns the life and experiences of Talwin Hawkins, otherwise known as Talon Of The Silver Hawk; the protagonist of the Conclave Of Shadows series. It also further describes the actions of the organisation known as the Conclave Of Shadows, a secretive group of powerful magicians and their associates created and controlled by Pug to ensure the safety of Midkemia. The events described in King Of Foxes are set approximately two years after those described in the first book in the Conclave Of Shadows trilogy, Talon Of The Silver Hawk. If you want to make changes and try again, copy and paste your article into a new submission and make your changes there. Conclave Of Shadows is a Fantasy trilogy written by author Raymond E. Feist. It is made up of the novels Talon Of The Silver Hawk, King Of Foxes, and Exile's Return. It is set in the world of Midkemia, an imaginary, fantasy world created by Feist in which most of his novels are set. In the chronology of Midkemia the Conclave of Shadows series is set after the Serpentwar Saga and before the Dark War series. The story is set several decades after the events recounted in the Serpentwar Saga. [edit] The Conclave Of ShadowsThe title of the series, the Conclave Of Shadows, refers to a secretive but powerful organistation created and controlled by the eminent magician of Midkemia, Pug, who is also the protagonist of many of Feist's other novels. The Conclave was created in order to safeguard Midkemia from the dangers that have beset it in previous Feist novels. The Conclave contains many hundreds, possibly thousands of members but its chief organisers are Pug himself, Miranda, his wife and fellow magician, Magnus and Caleb, Pug and Miranda's sons, and Nakor the Isalani. [edit] Talon Of The Silver Hawk/Talwin HawkinsTalon Of The Silver Hawk or Talwin Hawkins as he later becomes known is the protagonist of all three of the novels in the Conclave Of Shadows series. He is the last of the Orosini tribe, a small nation of highland natives who lived and isolated existence amongst the mountains of the Eastern Kingdoms on the continent of Triagia. Early in the first novel Talon Of The Silver Hawk, Talwin is exiled from his tribe and later begins to work for the Conclave as an important operative and it is this role he plays throughout the remaining books. If you want to make changes and try again, copy and paste your article into a new submission and make your changes there. [edit] PurposeThe purpose of this page is to list the episodes in the Power Rangers series which develop the plot. In this list are episodes where new powers/weapons/martial art moves/zords/characters… are first revealed or used. Also, episodes which have plot points that extend beyond just that episode. When an episode is part of a series of episodes and an episode in that series develops the Power Rangers universe, the whole series of episodes will be listed (if part I has a major plot point, part II, III will also be listed). What episodes this page will NOT have are the infamous monster of the week episodes where there are no overall plot development of the Power Rangers universe but merely an new monster and maybe one of the characters learn a life lesson (but if that monster or life lesson is referenced in a critical episode further in the Power Rangers timeline, then the original episode also becomes added to this list). In summary, this list will contain all the crucial Power Rangers episodes and none of the filler episodes. Once complete, you should be able to just watch this list and know all about the Power Rangers universe without having watched any of the episodes which do not develop the universe. Also, it could be nice to add a description along with the episodes title as to what is introduced in the episode or why it is important. [edit] Season 1Season 1 refers to the first ten episodes of the show. The storyline continues throughout the ten episodes and the events revolve around the main characters, Scepter and Mace, teaching the new kid, Todd Todderson, how to be Goth. [edit] Season 2Season 2 (episodes 11-20) focuses on a new Goth kid that appears, Spear. He seems friendly at first but soon it is obvious that he is trying to replace Scepter of the main character. The events that follow are the premise for the set of episodes. [edit] Differences between SeasonsSeason 1 is a series of linking episodes that share a common plot. The final episode of the first season (Episode 10) concludes the Goth Gotherson plot and provides a moral relating to being who you are and not limiting friendship to "the labels given to us by society". Season 2 also follows its own storyline focusing on Scepter's obsession with being considered Goth as well side-plots like Roger's on-going attempts to be Goth and Courtney's obsession with baby seals. The most notable difference is the inclusion of secret endings after the credits in every episode of Season 2 (and the teaser in the final episode of the first season. [edit] Main CharactersThese are the six characters that appear in the intro portion of every episode.
Scepter is the main character, he has appeared in every episode to date. He can be harsh at times and can be very short-tempered especially when his "gothness" is in question.
Mace is Scepter's best friend, appearing in every episode with the exception of episode 3. He is much kinder than Scepter but has been known to have lapses in intelligence.
Misery has had the least time on camera. Her most dominant attribute her lack of speaking. Though the other characters claim to have heard her speak, she has never made a sound on camera. (with the exception of episode 10, where she appeared in her "Non-Goth" form.
Todd's happy-go-lucky personality makes him the worst candidate for a "Goth Makeover" but he decides to go along with the transformation, giving him a dominating role in many episodes.
Courtney first appeared as the organizer for the school's spirit week. After a failed attempt to recruit Todd into a preppy follower, she decides to closer examine the Goths and possibly get them kicked out of the school. In her more recent role, she appears more friendly and is more concerned with Activism than school spirit.
Often shunned for his "nerdy behaviour", Roger aides Courtney with her plans against the Goths, In more recent times, he has tried to win over the Goths and even "join their crew". [edit] Sources

If you want to make changes and try again, copy and paste your article into a new submission and make your changes there. A small group of western movie fans began meeting in 1987 to watch old cowboy movies on a big screen. Several of us had attended film festivals in Charlotte, Knoxville,Memphis and Asheville over the years and realized the importance of preserving the Glory of Hollywood. In 1997, we decided to sponsor our own festival. We felt that the charm of Colonial Williamsburg and the interest in Hollywood's Golden era would make a successful combination. It was decided to trial a festival that would honor not only Hollywood's Golden era in film but also the early days of Television. The First Festival was held at the Comfort Inn in Williamsburg in March of 1997. The facility was small but intimate and everyone felt that the first effort had provided a real foundation for the future. The first festival was so successful that we needed larger facilities for our second festival and we moved to The Holiday Inn 1776 in March of 1998. Again, a larger than expected crowd attended. More fans and more dealers required more space. In 1999, we moved to the Holiday Inn Patriot for our Third Festival in February. A larger facility that served a larger crowd and more dealers. In 2000, we returned to The Holiday Inn Patriot and adopted it as our permanent home. The Holiday Inn Patriot is a great facility that provides us with sufficient space to house 2 theaters, a large Star Interview Room and an oversized Dealer Memorabilia Room. The Holiday Inn Patriot is now the home of The Williamsburg Film Festival. The new Jurassic mammal had strong limb bones, likely for digging, and could feed on insects and plants. Here it's portrayed as foraging among ginkgo leaves and the scattered shells of arthropods on the shore of a shallow freshwater lake. Credit: Mark A. Klingler, Carnegie Museum of Natural History
The find is reported in the November 1st issue of the journal Nature. It sheds light on the earliest mammalian evolution, especially the convergent evolution of teeth among early mammals, and leads scientists to think that mammals were far more diverse in the age of dinosaurs than previously thought. "This discovery indicates that Jurassic mammals had achieved far more complex dentition than believed, suggesting that mammals diversified much more rapidly in their early evolution than was known," said Richard Lane, program director in the National Science Foundation (NSF)'s division of earth sciences, which funded the research. The new mammal, named Pseudotribos robustus, was an insectivore feeding on worms and insects. Its skeleton is about 12 centimeters long, and its estimated weight would be about 20 to 30 grams. This small animal had strong limbs and lived on the ground but was also capable of "power digging." The fossil was discovered in 2004 in the Ningcheng County of Inner Mongolia Region of China and is now deposited in the Institute of Geology, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences in Beijing. Mammals have very diverse teeth, scientists have found, and groups of mammals are distinguished by their teeth. Giraffes and zebras are plant eaters, cats eat meat, aardvarks feed on termites, and many primates prefer fruits. Modern mammals are all descendants from ancient mammals--living with the dinosaurs in the Mesozoic--with tribosphenic teeth ("sphen" is Greek for shearing and cutting; "tribo" is Greek for grinding and pounding. The "tribo-sphenic" molars have both a cutter and a grinder.). The new mammal has "pseudo-tribosphenic" teeth. The earliest marsupial and placental mammals and their kin all had tribosphenic teeth capable not only of cutting, but also grinding. The combined shearing and grinding tooth structure made more versatile feeding functions possible, and are therefore important for early mammalian diversification. The pseudo-tribo-sphenic mammal teeth are superficially similar to the tribo-sphenic teeth in having a cutter and a grinder, however, the cutter and grinder are arranged in just the opposite positions. Zhe-Xi Luo, a paleontologist at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and a member of the international team that made the discovery, said that "in the pseudo-tribo-sphenic, the grinder is in front of the cutter; in the true tribo-sphenic teeth of the ancestors of marsupials and placentals, the cutter is in front of the grinder. The story of the earliest mammals is a story of their teeth. By tracing their evolution in the rich fossil record of the Mesozoic, we can understand how these cutting and grinding teeth evolved over and over again." Because tribosphenic teeth are such a unique and intricate structure, paleontologists once believed that there must have been a single origin in the Mesozoic. However, the pseudo-tribosphenic molars from the new fossil shows that similar structures to combine cutting and grinding had evolved several times. Under natural selection, organisms descending from different ancestors can evolve analogous structures and similar adaptations, a phenomenon known as convergent evolution. "The pseudo-tribosphenic teeth and the true tribosphenic teeth are great examples of convergent evolution and a great manifestation of how dental and feeding adaptation can be achieved by different lineages of mammals," said Luo. With their versatile functions for chewing different kinds of food, the tribosphenic and pseudo-tribosphenic teeth are key evolutionary innovations that enabled some of the earliest mammals to diversify in the Mesozoic times. They are considered by many paleontologists to be more advanced than primitive mammal teeth that were limited to cutting, not grinding or crushing. -NSF- Media Contacts Cheryl Dybas, NSF (703) 292-7734 cdybas@nsf.gov Ellen James, CMNH (412) 622-3361 jamese@carnegiemnh.org

He was invited to play for an exclusive club team called The Red Rockets where he was coached by Chris Thomas, an ex-Jamaican national team soccer player. He then moved to Miami, Florida, immediately joining Strike Force, the number one club team in the state. [edit] High SchoolIn 8th grade, Dreyer was considered by many to be the best incoming high school freshman in Dade County. He attended, Gulliver Prepatory School, which is known for its famous alumni such as Sean Taylor of the Washington Redskins. As a freshmnan he struggled to find his niche and was demoted to the junior varsity team. However, half way through the year he was called back up. Dreyer was known for his versatility. As a sophmore he played left defense and the stopper position. In 11th grade he moved to outside midfield and in his senior year he played central midfield and striker. Gulliver won the state championship twice during Dreyer's high school career. In 2003, Gulliver was ranked number one in the nation after defeating St. Pius X Catholic High School (DeKalb County, Georgia) in the finals of the national high school tournament.
