Topaz Energy has over 100 years of heritage and experience of serving the Irish market behind it. Through the acquisition and integration of the Irish businesses of Shell and Statoil, Topaz is Ireland’s leading forecourt operator and retailer with over 350 service areas. We are the largest fuels distribution business and are one of the largest privately owned companies in Ireland. Topaz Energy is involved in all aspects of the Irish oil business including retail, commercial fuels, lubricants and home heating oil. The company has significant interests in the storage and distribution of oil products and owns the worldwide rights for the Fareplay Convenience brand, the No.1 forecourt retailing brand in Ireland. Topaz is 100% Irish owned.
Background
Topaz Energy Group Limited is the bringing together of two of the giants in the oil industry in Ireland. Shell Ireland was founded in 1902, and prior to it’s sale to Topaz in 2005, had over 100 years of servicing customers in the Irish market across a wide spectrum of the fuels energy sector. Statoil Ireland came to Ireland in 1992 with the purchase of BP. Statoil Ireland further embedded itself in the Irish oil industry in 1996 through the acquisition of the Jet network (Conoco Phillips). Topaz Energy subsequently bought Statoil Ireland in 2006. Therefore, while Topaz Energy is only two years in existence, it has over 100 years of heritage and experience of serving the Irish market behind it.
Network Topaz Energy operates under both the Shell and Statoil brands in Ireland with c.300 branded stations. Of these stations, Topaz Energy owns 110 sites. Of the remaining sites, Topaz Energy operates a further 69 sites under the Fareplay convenience brand. The Company is continually enhancing its network and recently won the contract to operate the Dublin Port Service Station, the largest service area in the country. This will become operational in 2007.
Food and Convenience
The food and convenience offering is vital to the overall viability of any service area. Given its importance, Statoil developed the Fareplay convenience brand in Ireland which has gained worldwide recognition for quality and service. Our objective is to provide an unrivalled customer experience in the very competitive and very high quality Irish convenience market. Today, Fareplay is only present in forecourt locations and over the past 10 years it is consistently the number one choice across that sector. The key components of our retail convenience offer are coffee, hot food and sandwiches.
