The Western Australian Community Foundation is an independent charitable organisation created to build stronger, sustainable communtiies in WA. It does this by offering a structure that Western Australian communites can utilise to invest in their commuity for the long term.

As Trustee, the Western Australian Community Foundation is the umbrella organisation for WA communities to benefit from philanthryopy without the burden of administration and governance responsibilities.

The concept of a community foundation lends itself to working with communities of all shapes and sizes: from inner city groups wishing to develop youth activities, to rural townships needing to improve community facilities, to businesses wanting to take a more strategic approach to their giving.

Three feasibility studies conducted in Western Australia by the Foundation for Regional and Rural Renewal (FRRR) helped shape and define the way in which Western Australian Community Foundation engages with communities. FRRR identified that the costs involved with establishing and maintaining a number of separate community foundations were considerable, with an investment of $64,000 required to establish each community foundation and ongoing costs likely to exceed $50,000 per annum.

Hence a shared model approach was taken, enabling communities to benefit from the opportunity of creating funds for the future within an existing structure, without the administrative burden and cost of managing their own foundation.

Craig-Anthony Ismael was born september 19th 1989. growing up in a very strict house, Craig learned how to understand people and gained a very high sense of imagination. from the age of 14 to 17 Craig studied theatre arts at Repertory Company For Theatre Arts in times square,New York City. His last year of high school he transfered to Independence High School half way through out the year. He greaduated high school in 2007 and attended La Guardia community college and withdrew from his classes in two moths. He left New York city to live in Thousand Oaks california immediatley after leaving school to pursue his career in photography. Luckily enough, Craig-Anthony was discovered by local Los Angeles artist and became a huge hit.

02.1 Profile

One of six children - 3 girls, 3 boys - of Irish Catholic parents, James grew up near Croydon in the 1970s. His introduction to hairdressing came early. Even as an eight-year old he was puzzled as to why his elder sister would go regularly to the salon, but then come home and immediately wash and restyle her hair. He eventually persuaded her to give him a try as her personal hairdresser and his reputation spread over the years and soon he had the entire street for his clientele. At 15 he landed his first job in a Croydon salon – they thought he was 18 - which is where he first encountered schoolgirl Kate and they embarked on their journey to change the face of fashion.

For these South London soul mates, their collaboration began with a Croydon connection, when he was an apprentice hairdresser and she still at school, bunking off to hang out at the local salon. From such chance encounters and cherished friendships the stuff of fashion legend is born, and they were both booked to shoot their debut Vogue cover in 1992 with photographer Corinne Day. Kate was just 17 and James 22 – who earned a career distinction, that some session stylists spend their entire working life trying to achieve.

Moving into London, James completed his apprenticeship with Zoo in Covent Garden, before moving on to Brinks and Huck. He really enjoyed salon culture, but was already making a name for himself as a session hairdresser on shoots for style bibles i-D and The Face. Aged 24 he re-located to New York to pursue his freelance career and landed the Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Barney’s campaigns.

In the ensuing 15 years James has worked on numerous high-profile fashion shoots, campaigns and catwalk shows, with and without Kate. In 2001 he was named the Elle Style Awards Hairdresser of the Year. He has an array of A-list clients including Sarah Jessica Parker, The Beckhams, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kirsten Dunst, Johnny Depp, Amber Valetta, Julianne Moore and Gisele Bundchen.

James’s work is his bespoke blend of natural, fashion and simplicity. To date he has preferred a nomadic existence working between London and New York, unencumbered by the demands and diversions of salon ownership. Peter Hunt

Peter Hunt is a British Scholar who is the Senior Lecturer of English and Communications at the University of Wales, Cardiff. His books include works of criticism, novels, and stories for younger children. The course on children's literature which he runs at the University of Wales was the first of its kind in the UK. He has lectured on the subject worldwide, and has published several notable novels and books for children and adolescents.(1)

Criticism, Theory, and Children's Literature (1991)

As Hunt says during his Introduction of Criticism, Theory, and Children's Literature, "The first chapter of this book examines the relationship between criticism, as it is becoming, and children's literature. The second examines the present state of children's literature in general. The third, in order to clarify what we are about, looks at definitions of 'children's literature'."(2) For the second and third sections, Hunt finds himself in murky water, for looking at the present state of children's literature can not be wholly accomplished with all the texts which can potentially constitute children's literature, and defining the term (as seen in his subsequent books where he attains some success) is quite complicated.

An Introduction to Children's Literature (1994)

An Introduction to Children's Literature begins in the Preface by asking essential questions about children's literature: "what is it, how is it used, how can we approach it, [and] how the study of it has developed."(3) Yet almost immediately Hunt finds himself struggling with the first question, noting that books 'written for' children are sometimes only understandable by adults, or are much more appreciated by adults (such as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland) while books 'read by' children could potentially include any book which exists (for "surely sometime, somewhere, all books have been read by one child or another?") Joined with this is the difficulty of defining 'children', although Hunt soon gives a satisfactory definition: "[C]hildhood is the period of life which the immediate culture thinks of as being free of responsibility and susceptible to education."(4) Although Hunt never neatly answers the questions he posed in the Preface, he does make some progress when he discerns that "children's literature is obviously what people think it is,"(5) and is contented to leave it as that while he flutters through time from the 1700s onward.

Children's Literature: An Illustrated History (1995 Editor)

A year after publishing An Introduction to Children's Literature, Hunt once again attempted to encapsulate the history of Children's Literature, this time as an Editor piecing together other author's attitude of books written for children since the 1700s. Once again, he discovered that there were three primary difficulties which made the History of Children's Literature unclear: 1) Many children's books have literally been read to shreds throughout time 2) Nobody quite knows what constitutes Children's Literature 3) The concept of childhood has shifted throughout history ("It takes a considerable mental leap to remember that the innocent schoolgirl intrigues of Angela Brazil or Enid Blyton in the 1940's were designed for the same age group as the sexually active and angst-ridden teenagers of Judy Blume in the 1970s.")(6)

Alternative Worlds in Fantasy Fiction (2001)

In Alternative Worlds in Fantasy Fiction, Hunt (with Millicent Lenz) studies three modern fantasy authors: Ursula K. Le Guin, Terry Pratchett, and Philip Pullman. These authors, he argues, "have absorbed the past of fantasy, they move it on in new directions, and they are formidably intelligent."(7) Here, Hunt insists that worthwhile fantasy (like Children's Literature) should be taken seriously, claiming that "it is useful to take the three most common (if not the most damning) of opinions - that fantasy is formulaic, childish, and escapist, to see if they can be sustained - remembering that the one thing that can rarely be said of fantasy is that it has nothing to do with reality."(8)

Budget Gourmet is a line of frozen food entrees that started out as a product of the All American Gourmet Company. The history of the products were based on an Italian restaurant located in the Pittsburgh, PA area. In the mid 1980's, the Tambellini's restaurant would sell frozen meals out the back door to patrons who wanted to take the dinners home. It's unclear how this business grew to become part of General Host's Van de Caamp business, but their All American Gourment Company began the marketing of the product in the mid 1980's. The business was later sold to Kraft General Foods for $96 million about 1987. The business was later sold to Heinz in 1994 who then later sold the business in 2001 to Luigino's Inc, the maker of Michelina's brand of frozen food entrees.

George Edward Alcorn, Jr. He received a four-year academic scholarship to Occidental College in Los Angeles, USA. Where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physics. Alcorn received his degree with honors while earning eight letters in basketball and football. Alcorn also earned a Master of Science in Nuclear Physics in 1963 from Howard University, after only nine months of study. During the summers of 1962 and 1963, Alcorn worked as a research engineer for the Space Division of North America Rockwell. He was also involved with the computer analysis of launch trajectories and orbital mechanics for Rockwell missiles, including the Titan I and II, Saturn IV, and the Nova.

Alcorn also earned a Ph.D. in Atomic and Molecular Physics from Howard University, and between 1965-67 Alcorn conducted research on negative ion formation under a NASA-sponsored grant.

Dr. George Edward Alcorn holds eight patents in the United States and Europe on semiconductor technology, one of which is a method of fabricating an imaging X-ray spectrometer. A list of these can be seen below, His area of research includes: adaptation of chemical ionization mass spectrometers for the detection of amino acids and development of other experimental methods for planetary life detection; classified research involved with missile reentry and missile defense; design and building of space instrumentation, atmospheric contaminant sensors, magnetic mass spectrometers, mass analyzers; and development of new concepts of magnet design and the invention of a new type of x-ray spectrometer.and limbs.

Well, where to start. He grew up in the swamps of Mississippi, and there were signs of genius from an early age. Wrestling alligators for fun, living off the land, and doing crosswords in his spare-time(signs of genius im referring to), he was at one with the land. I never explained how he came to be born in the swamps, but thats a boring story so ill leave that out. He emigrated to Ireland, and found a little place in Ballincollig, Co. Cork to his liking. It was here that he mastered the art of DTSOOI. DTSOOI, for all you out there who are not familiar with the term(or way of life as it is for some of us), is short for Drinking The Shit Out Of It. He had many a grand adventure during his time, and was loved by all. By all, i am of course excluding the people who hated him. Losers mainly. He also liked to run. Oh how he loved to run. Instrumental shred guitarist Wayde Cooper has been in the music business for over 20 years teaching, playing live and performing clinics for Guitar Center and local music stores through the northwest.

His first start was with his band AXIS (1990) which was made up of Jeff Smoots (guitar, keyboards and backing vocals, David Beardsley (drums), Nick Valenz (Vocals) and Jim Beseda (Bass). AXIS played consistently for 2 years straight creating a huge buzz around Seattle and the surrounding states.

Around 1992 Wayde concentrated on his solo work and started writing and recording 3 instrumental CD’s. Wayde's first CD from 1993 "32nd note festival of shred" was featured in Mike Varney Hometown Heroes article in Guitar World (March 1994). Mike Varney had some very positive comments about Wayde's first instrumental CD, "...Wayde's current demo shows that practice pays off, for he has attained a technical level equal to that of many established artist possessing a full complement of speed-picking, legato, string-skipping and wide-intervallic chops."

Around 1997 Wayde joined forces with guitarist Jeff Smoots (jrsmoots.com) and work on a new progressive rock project with vocalist and writer Peter Orullian. The result was the band Inner Resonance – Solar Voices released on Guitar 9 records.

By 2003 Wayde had released 7 CD’s including an instructional guitar CD called “Diatonic Madness” released on Chops from Hell (www.cfh.com) and its about to release more music to the world! Wayde’s music is available at all digital download sites (Napster, Rhapsody, Itunes and more).

Wayde is currently working on a new instructional DVD and is finishing up his new progressive instrumental CD to be release 2008!

Born in the small town of Zacatecas,Mexico on January 12, 1991 Diego Sosa was destined to be a champion. At the young age of 6 diego moved to the town of Toadsuck, Arcansa in America. Diego loosely understood the language of English and decided to join a local underground fencing club. In his first fencing match Diego lost his right eye from a fearfull poke from his competitor. Yet Diego continued and strove to become a champion Diego moved to San Antonio and joined the Alamo Fencing club where he toned his skills and became better everyday. In 2007 Diego went to nationals with the alamo fencing club and went after his dreams where he won 7th place becoming one of the few and the proud american national fencing winners, also he was the 3rd handicapped person to wim a regular national fencing tournament.

Wou Bom-kon was born in 1955 in South Korea. He later became a policeman until April 1982 when in the space of eight hours he became the most prolific murderer in a single day. On the 26th-27th of April he killed 57 people and injured a further 35 in the Kyong Sang-Namado province of South Korea. Using a rifle and hand grenades he went on a drunken rampage that only ended when he blew himself up.

No-one currently playing chess at the Brentwood Chess Club could remember whether there had been a Club before the war. The written records of the Club go back to 1947 and some of the early entries refer to a Ted Newton who had once been Chairman. He retired from the Club a many years ago on health grounds.

Further light was thrown on this era when the Essex Chess Association records revealed that Brentwood Chess Club had won the local league in 1933. Then coincidentally an elderly acquaintance, Howard Earl, died leaving his Chess Library. He had been playing chess in Essex for over sixty years and had been Secretary, first of the Hornchurch Chess Club (now sadly defunct) and then of the Upminster Chess Club. His books comprehensively recorded the history of chess in Essex going back to 1920. The Brentwood Chess Club had been founded in 1921 and had begun to play competitively in 1924. However, that wasn't the end of the story. A visit to the Brentwood Library and its local history shelves produced the Wilson & Whitworth's 1906 Brentwood and Warley Almanac Directory (after the store of that name). A "Brentwood and Warley Draughts and Chess Club" had been formed in 1905 with the object of encouraging Draughts and Chess". It met on a Thursday night at the Recreation Hall - which used to stand at the end of the High Street (numbers 126 - 136) - just down the hill past Westbury Road. They must have been a competitive club as they had two match captains. A later publication - Dutton's Essex Almanac - revealed that the Club was still going strong in 1915 but now it was meeting at the Recreation Institute - at 116 High Street - long since demolished when Kings Road was widened. Presumably the First World War then swallowed up the Club - only for it to rise again as the Brentwood Chess Club in 1921.

This new Club first met at Somerset Hall in King Edward Road, just off the Kings Road, near the station. Somerset Hall was later pulled down and the Boys Brigade Headquarters built on the site. Being near the station as an important consideration in those days when few people had cars. This was the old "Great Eastern Line and the Mid-Essex Chess League”, which the Club soon joined, consisted of Clubs from Hornchurch, Upminster, Harold Wood, Romford and Chelmsford - all in touch with each other by train.

In 1926 the Club moved premises to the Town Hall - an impressive Palladian building - occupying the site where Courts Furniture Store used to stands. In that year Lieutenant Colonel G. E. F. FitzGerald became the Club's President - a post he was to hold continuously until the Club folded at the beginning of the Second World War.

In 1927 some members left to found the Hutton & District Chess Club - but this was not successful and only lasted until 1930 when Brentwood Chess Club once again became the only focal point of chess in Brentwood. In 1928 the Club again moved premises to Church House in New Road, opposite the Library, and continued playing there on a Tuesday evenings until 1933 when they changed headquarters to the Log Restaurant on Shenfield Common. Whether it was the air or the view or just coincidence, the Club now achieved its best results ever by not only winning the League but also in having one of their members, T. E. Ketterer, win the Essex Minor Trophy (the Wilson~Marriage Cup).

In 1935 the Club moved to another eating-house - Norrish's Cafe - at 68 High Street, now converted to The Baker's Oven. They were now meeting on a Wednesday night and had membership of just 13. In 1937 a final move was made to the Conservative Club at 106-114 Kings Road, a site now occupied by Bradley's Wine Bar. Then war intervened.

In those inter-war years the Club members, though small in numbers (never less than 12 nor more than 18) were very active in Essex Chess. Many of them played for the County Team and they supported the Club and ensured its survival when other Clubs - including Harold Wood, Hornchurch and Hutton & District - were falling by the wayside.

After the war Brentwood Chess stuttered into existence – first as the Brentwood and District Chess Club in 1947, which met at Holland's Restaurant, Kings Road - on the corner of Gresham Road. The Club was fortunate in having the services of J. Grieshaber - a very strong player - but nevertheless had mediocre results and sadly folded in about 1951.

There is then no record of any organised chess in Brentwood until 1955 when the Doddinghurst Chess Club was formed under the Chairmanship of the Reverend E. Spray. They met in the Church Room at Doddinghurst and subs were 10 shillings a year. In 1957 the Club broadened out to become the Brentwood & Doddinghurst Chess Club meeting on the second and fourth Tuesdays in Doddinghurst and the first, third (and fifth) Tuesdays in Brentwood at the Hermitage. The Publicity Officer persuaded the Gazette to start a Chess Column - one of the major factors in the bandwagon of increasing membership and success, which the Club began to enjoy.

From the 1960 - 1990 the Club reverted to its former name, The Brentwood Chess Club, and the new Chairman was the aforementioned Ted Newton. Since then there has been a steady process of consolidation - membership between thirty and fifty - three to four teams competing in the Essex League - and increasing individual success. Karl Bowden joined the Club whilst still at primary school, some ten years ago, and is now the strongest player in Essex. Jonathan Rogers joined and became the British Under 15 Champion.

In the 1990’s, there was a decline in membership and by 2003, many of the strongest players such as Karl Bowden and Jon Rogers had moved out of the area, Brentwood struggled to retain 1st Division status and were relegated. Since 2003, the clubs’ fortunes have somewhat picked up again as by the end of the 2007 season Brentwood finished 2nd in Division 2. Brentwood also won a Summer Tournament played against Shell and Thurrock Chess Clubs by the narrowest of margins in 2006 (by ½ a point). Brentwood currently field 4 teams and also feature in the North Essex Chess Knockout Cup competition. With the Essex Chess League being massively restructured in 2007, Brentwood maintained their Division 2 status. Brentwood also entered a new team in the 4th Division of the Essex League (2007). In 2006, Brentwood reentered the North Essex Chess League for the first time since the 1990’s with one team in the 2nd Division. At the start of the 2007 season, Brentwood Chess Club entered another team into the North Essex Chess League (3rd Division). In 2007, Brentwood Chess Club’s secretary Gavin Strachan organized the 1st Brentwood International Chess Congress (17th-18th February), which with 231 competitors made it the largest congress in Essex at the time. The congress included Grandmaster’s (GM’s) Neil MacDonald, Peter Wells and the tournament winner Nick Pert. It also had six International Masters (IM’s), two Federation Masters (FM’s) and a Women Grandmaster (WGM).

The Order of 23 has been established at Wake Forest University. With questionable historical roots which claim its inception in 1923 following the addition of the attribution "Demon" to Wake Forest's former mascot Deacon, the Order resurfaced in the fall of 2006 under the believed direction of Peter Ayoub. Recent activities include the changing of the Duke flag to a gold flag bearing the Order's symbol of XXIII at the homecoming game in the fall of 2006, changing the flag again for the homecoming game in 2007, throwing a dinner banquet for the unsung heros of Wake Forest's student body in the spring of 2007, and dumping pro-Wake Forest fliers on the freshmen class of 2011 at the Orientation Event Spirit of Wake Forest.
