[edit] WERE DID BLACK PEOPLE COME FROM?
Well, the black people came from small caves in North East New Hampshire. All of the black people did. Not just a few, then in the early 1900's they all showed up at a KFC. All they wanted was some Fried Chicken, but then they found themselves working on farms for the man, the white people, honkeys. Thats right no black people came from anywhere in Africa. [edit] Doreen Smith
Doreen Smith born april 21st, 1958, is now one of Scotland's most famous interior designers and homestyle coloumnists for the Herald and Scotsman News Paper. She is about to appear in TV series Safe as Houses on STV as an interior design consultant and is about to be a judge for The Herald. Doreen's carear started in the late 70's where she got a job at blackies printing firm, she was soon promoted to senior designer at a young age but her carear was stopped when the company made her redundant. In the early 90' s Doreen set up her own interior design company House Docter, she was unable to use this name as it was the same as the popular TV show. The battle over the name went to court and Ann Maurice got the name despite her not owning the patent in the first place. Never the less dorren continued on as an interior designer trading under her own name. Now she is one of the most respected interior designers in scotland. [edit] Urban Poor Associates (UPA)
Archived discussion follows below. Please do not modify it. |

This request for creation has been reviewed. The reviewer comments appear below the article text.
Urban Poor Associates is a non government organization registered with the Philippine government. It was established in 1992. Since then it has educated over 285,000 families in housing rights matters and assisted 510 communities in eviction crises. It has helped near 51,000 families, to relocate in-city, or at least remain as they were. It has been responsible for almost 600 stories that appeared in the Manila dailies, 150 TV stories and 850 radio interviews. Contact Info: 25-A Mabuhay Street, Brgy. Central, 1100 Quezon City, Philippines Tels (632) 426.4119 / 426.7615 Fax (632) 426.4118 Email address: upa@pldtdsl.net
· No one shall be hungry or live in squalor unfit for human beings. · All families shall have clean inexpensive water, sanitation, drainage, security of tenure and a decent house. Evictions will be a thing of the past. · All will have access to health care, good schools and employment. · No one shall feel powerless or left out. · Families will help one another; community organizations will be vigorous; and urban poor people as a group will work for the common good. · Those who have less in life shall have more in joy and solidarity. · Religion will help educate and motivate people to work together for change. UPA has Several Tasks · It educates poor people about their housing rights. · It organizes people being evicted forcibly and illegally to resist in non-violent ways, for example, by going to court, seeking the help of prominent people, including church leaders, going in delegations to the mayor, using the media, or getting help in other ways. · Once demolitions are stopped, UPA works to find permanent land and housing solutions for poor families, such as, in-city relocation and on-site upgrading. · UPA engages in research and advocacy work. It monitors evictions and violations of the housing laws and produces annual reports, such as a demolition monitor. It researches such matters as the effects of evictions on women and children and on the economic life of the evicted families. · It has a full time media person to make sure poor people’s matters are covered in the papers and on radio and TV. UPA has a one-hour award winning program each week on Radio Veritas for this purpose. · UPA heads a poor people’s water campaign that helps very poor communities get inexpensive, piped water. This saves families P100-200 a month since without piped water they pay two to three times the legal rate to itinerant water vendors or better off neighbors. · UPA works with the priests of St. Joseph’s Vicariate, Quezon City to discover how urban parishes can serve their urban poor parishioners. It is also beginning similar work with the priests of the Vicariate of Sto. Niño in downtown Manila. · UPA works very closely with LOCOA, an Asian Community Organization network, and Eviction Watch, an Asia-wide anti-eviction service. · UPA has initiated the St. Thomas More Law Center. · UPA operates throughout the Philippines. It has established Quick Reaction Teams in Mindanao, Bicol and the Visayas to educate the poor about housing rights and eviction and to help them cope with eviction problems. It coordinates the teams and provides staff development sessions.
1992 - UPA made the first ever report on demolitions in Metro Manila. It found about 100,000 people were evicted every year during the administration of President Corazon Aquino (1986-1992).This figure has remained fairly constant since. Over twenty people were killed and hundreds injured in violent evictions during those early years. As a result UPA formed its eviction crisis intervention work. 1993 - Violence in evictions reached new heights during the administration of President Fidel Ramos. It began with urban poor people driven by tear gas and riot police from Smokey Mountain. One man was killed. Distant relocation began again under Ramos. There had been no relocation sites opened under President Aquino. 1994 - Publication of Ano ang Gagawin Kung May Demolisyon?. Over 15,000 copies have been distributed. It is a manual helping poor people deal with eviction. 1995 - UPA sent a team of housing experts to the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in Geneva to contest the government’s housing report. The Committee wrote a strong letter to the Philippine government urging it to do better in matters of eviction and relocation, and to concentrate on slum upgrading rather than expensive housing. 1997 - UPA invited an old friend, the actor Martin Sheen, to visit Manila and head a campaign called “A More Humane City.” Sheen visited urban poor areas, appeared on the major TV talk shows, met NGOs and government officials. He urged the people to remember, ”A people united can never be defeated.” 2000 - UPA began work on the Pasig River in collaboration with the government and Asian Development Bank (ADB). UPA works in several river communities including Parola, Baseco and Pineda. 2001 - UPA’s radio program “Buhay Maralita” had the greatest number of listeners in its Saturday timeslot. It was nominated for a Catholic Mass Media Award, the most prestigious award in the field. 2002 - UPA took a leading role in advocating for the government land proclamation program. It has also done research on the proclamations. 2003 - UPA works to bring land tenure security to 19,000 urban poor families in the University of the Philippines. 2004 - UPA has arranged a series of consultations among Quezon City officials, the University of the Philippines and the 19,000 urban poor families living on the campus which hopefully will lead to land tenure security for the poor and the best educational use of the campus for the University. 2005 - UPA along with Community Organizers of the Philippine Enterprise and CO Multiversity have helped form the April 30 Working Group, a coalition of 45 urban poor group in Metro Manila who work on land tenure security, evictions, basic services, proclamations, and other matters for the poor. UPA with Task Force on Housing Rights along the Railways conducted surveys and took part in congressional hearing regarding North and South Rail. The Economic and Social Rights Legal Advocacy Center, SALIGAN, St. Thomas More Law Center filed test cases in court against violators of Section 28 of UDHA. There are still Problems? The landless urban poor in Metro Manila number close to 5 million men, women and children (about 800,000 families). Recent studies show average family income per month in the poorer slums is about P6,500.00. The poor suffer greatly from inflation. In the first four months of 2005 prices of basic foods of the poor rose by 25%-30%. There are indications that the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) of children under five years of age is rising. The IMR is held to be the best indicator of community overall well-being. Jobs are harder to find. The quality of public school education deteriorates. “Ensuring a suitable home for everyone is demanded by the respect owed to every human being and, therefore is a measure of civilization and the condition of a peaceful fraternal society.” -Pope John Paul II Angelus Address June 16, 1996 [edit] Sourceshttp://jlagman17.blogspot.com http://www.cohre.org/view_page.php?page_id=79 http://www.unescap.org/pdd/PRS/ProjectActivities/Prior2003/living/box7.asp http://www.unicef-icdc.org/publications/pdf/philinsight.pdf http://www.adb.org/Resettlement/proc_urban_AID.pdf http://www.no-burn.org/wna07/wna2007.presentations/WNA07.Successes.ECW_cabuyao.pdf 210.213.126.219 08:33, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sources77.50.55.165 12:00, 31 July 2007 (UTC) Upscaling DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) Players are a reasonably cheap way of upscaling standard DVD-Video discs using a video scaler to match the pixel count of the signal to the physical pixel count on a high-definition television or computer monitor, resulting in better detail and color consistency. Standalone DVD players which feature upscaling use either a standard component video or VGA analog cable, or a DVI-D or HDMI digital cable to connect to the high-definition television. Standalone DVD players with component video or VGA output connectors use a digital-to-analog integrated circuit microchip which does the upscaling, while DVD players with DVI-D or HDMI output connectors use a digital-to-digital integrated circuit microchip which does the upscaling. Computer software DVD-Video players like PowerDVD and WinDVD also features upscaling of DVD-Video.
Upscaling does not really convert standard DVD-Video into true high-definition images. But upscaling does a very good job of converting standard DVD-Video on fixed pixel displays like Plasma and LCD. Upscaling does not work as well on CRT-based high definition televisions. Typically, signals like 720p (1280x720 progressive scan) or 1080i (1920x1080 interlaced) are produced, and in some cases even 1080p (1920x1080 progressive scan). 1080i is an interlaced scan which represents 1920 pixels displayed across a screen horizontally and 1080 pixels down a screen vertically. This arrangement yields 1080 horizontal lines, which are displayed alternately each time the picture is refreshed. 1080p is a progressive scan, which represents 1080 horizontal lines displayed sequentially. This means all lines are displayed during the same pass.

[edit] Stacey Bendet for alice + olivia
alice + olivia launched in 2002 at Barneys NY and was an instant success –- everyone wanted Stacey’s perfect pants. By incorporating interesting fabrics, an ultra-flattering fit and a stylish retro vibe, alice + olivia quickly gave today’s retro sophisticate something to embrace other than denim as a daily staple. “Stacey Pants,” as her friends still call them, became an overnight phenomenon. Shortly after alice + olivia’s launch, Andrew Rosen, the founder of multi-million dollar brand Theory, teamed up with Stacey to become her business partner in the company. From that moment on, the phenomenon continued to grow. In 2003, Stacey successfully introduced the alice + olivia cashmere sweater collection as the perfect compliment to her pants, and the following year, she launched a line of well-received swimwear. In the fall of 2004, Stacey made the leap into menswear when she developed anthony + mo, a brilliantly colored men’s cashmere sweater collection, which she named after her two best college pals. The super soft sweaters, which launched at Barneys and Scoop NYC are the perfect boy sweaters – the ones you want to buy for your boyfriend and steal from his closet. In 2005, alice + olivia expanded into seasonal collections featuring those must-have pants, as well as signature tops, sweaters, dresses, jackets, shorts, denim and more. Stacey secured her place on the fashion map as the leading go-to brand for today’s retro sophisticate when alice + olivia brought in over $10 million in sales and reached over 450 stores worldwide, ranging from elite domestic accounts Barneys, Scoop, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, to leading international accounts, including Harrods in London and Lane Crawford in Hong Kong. During the same year, Stacey signed on to redesign the cult 80’s CB Sports brand for its resurgence in the fall of 2006 and she was presented with the first ever “Life in D” award from Ford, which “recognizes women who combine talent with that little something extra that allows them to break free from convention to enjoy life with style and attitude.” 2005 also marked the year that alice + olivia launched its first-ever boutique, which opened in East Hampton to rave reviews. In April 2006, the first alice + olivia Los Angeles boutique opened on trendy Robertson Boulevard, followed by a flagship store in New York’s Bryant Park in October 2006. Boutiques in Nolita and Southampton shortly followed in June 2006 along with plans to open alice + olivia Malibu and a third Los Angeles location in late 2008. Each store offers alice + olivia signature pieces, as well as items exclusive to the stores, including a few of Stacey’s favorite complimentary brands – from Dylan’s Candy Bar and Malini Murjani handbags to Plum Bunny scented bangles and Moby’s teany teas and gifts and oh-so-much more. While she’s busy at work designing all those spectacular pieces, Stacey still finds the time to lend a helping hand. She avidly works on charity fundraising for the Young Lions at the New York Public Library, the New York Museums, the Sri K. Pattabhi Jois Charitable Trust, and Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti Organization, in which she recently styled the video for director Jeremy Blake. A devoted Ashtanga yoga student who practices with legendary guru Eddie Stern daily at 6 AM, Stacey loves flea markets, traveling and chewing bubble gum. This request for creation has been reviewed. The reviewer comments appear below the article text.
This is the generation who were essentially old enough to fight in the English Civil War. In particular, it refers to those in their thirties, married with lands who chose to fight. This was the main shared experience of this generation; the choice to become a nominal Cavalier and support King Charles I or become a Roundhead and support Cromwell was crucial, although many tried to remain neutral. Edward Beverley in The Children of the New Forest and Tom Lacey in By The Sword Divided are fictional examples of this generation. [edit] Giordano Memorization System
GMS (Giordano Memorization System) was a system created in 1990 by Vladimir A. Kozarenko. It was specifically designed for efficient memorization of everyday useful information, including the information we encounter while studying different subjects. Everyday useful information may include phone numbers, street addresses, shopping lists, names, etc. Though GMS also allows users to to efficiently remember seemingly unrelated and illogical information – sets of words, random numbers, maps and any combination of letters. GMS is based on mnemonics. “Mnemonics” means a memorization technique. It is derived from a Greek word “mnemonikon” – an art of memorization. It is believed that Pythagoras of Samos invented the word in 6th century B.C. The memorization art is called “mnemonikon” after a Greek goddess of memory, Mnemosine, the mother of nine muses. The first surviving works on mnemonics date back to 86-82 B.C and belong to Cicero and Quintilian (see “History of mnemonics”). Modern encyclopedias define mnemonics in different ways: Mnemonics – an art of memorization, a set of methods and techniques that ease the memorization process and help increase memory volume by creating artificial associations. Mnemonic techniques: 1) the same as mnemonics; 2) circus or a stage trick based on the memorization art (guessing numbers, things, dates or names). The trick is performed by two artists using a specially developed code. Mnemonics can also be defined in a way that reflects modern mnemonics more precisely. Mnemonics – a system of inner writing that produces the ability to consecutively record information in to the brain, by transforming the information into a combination of visual images. Mnemonics makes use of natural memory mechanisms and makes it possible to fully control the memorization, storage and retrieval processes. GMS is the result of a lengthy systematic research. Its practical basis is the principles of classic mnemonics and elements from the Giordano Bruno memorization system. The theoretical foundation is an original model of memory that was developed on the basis of a modern conception of the quasi holographic nature of the brain’s work. How it Works The Giordano Memorization System does not ask the user to make up creative phrases, sentences and stories to aid in the process of memorization. This system also does not use any emotional manipulation techniques to aid in the process of memorization. The process of memorization is divided into four stages: 1. Encoding the elements of information into visual images; 2. The memorization process itself; 3. Remembering the sequence of information; 4. Fixation of the information in your brain. A concept of “association” is introduced as a group of images that serve to encode information. In GMS, the “association” concept differs from the concept of “connection of images”. The main thinking operation that leads to consciously turning on the memory process is clearly defined. This operation is the “connection of images”. Figurative codes are widely used as instruments of speed memorization. The system of encoding numbers into images is based upon the following alphanumeric code: 1 – N, 2 – THZ, 3 – B, 4 – WVK, 5 – FR, 6 – JPX, 7 – SD, 8 – GQL, 9 – C, 0 – M. Basically in GMS the user uses visual images to memorize different information. For Example: “Ankar” movie theatre - 123-77-58. A GMS user remembers an image of a “hangar” and images of a “notebook”,”dish” and “film”. These images are all used to memorize the phone number for the Ankar movie theatre. The reason for using visual images for numbers is because the brain does not remember purely numerical combinations and encoding memorized information into visual images is a necessity. The brain cannot memorize anything except for visual images. [edit] SourcesGMS Manual by V. Kozarenko 67.185.54.177 16:26, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lions World Services for the Blind
Lions World Services for the Blind was founded in 1947 by Roy Kumpe to serve people who are blind and visually impaired who needed to learn independent living skills or job training skills that considered the special requirements of their individual visual impairments. The goal of the rehabilitation center then, and today, is to prepare the individual who is blind or visually impaired to function independently in our "sighted" society. Since that time, LWSB has served more than 9,200 individuals from all 50 states and 58 other countries. We have gradually expanded our services to become the most comprehensive rehabilitation center in the world, offering a complete personal adjustment program, 13 vocational courses, a vision rehabilitation clinic and training, an assistive technology learning center, job placement assistance, and a college preparatory program. LWSB is accredited by the National Accreditation Council for agencies serving people with Blindness or Visually Impairment. Blindness is no respecter of persons. It strikes without regard to race, religion, sex or nationality. In the United States, 1.3 million Americans age 25 and older have severe visual impairments, causing them to make adjustments in areas of careers and everyday living situations. Whether you are a person who is blind, a professional worker in the blindness field, a Lions Club member, or someone interested in blindness, we cordially invite you to visit our center and meet our professional and capable staff. We think you will find that Lions World Services for the Blind is committed to serving people who are blind or visually impaired from all over the globe, and that you will agree with Helen Keller that "Alone, we can do so little. Together, we can do so much." [edit] Sources66.139.186.37 20:08, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Brent Ashley
Brent Ashley plays bass in LA rock band The Dreaming (band) - USA. Ashley started his musical career in 1999 joining Los Angeles Industrial band Synical featuring Brian Haught, Eric Griffin and Ben Graves. Synical played several sold out Hollywood shows which were beginning to attract the attention of labels until Griffin and Graves were recruited into Slipknot (band) drummer Joey Jordisons side project Murderdolls. Ashley left Synical in 2001 shortly before Griffin and Graves abandoned the project to pursue other bands. In 2001 he joined Skold, fronted by Tim Skold formerly of KMFDM and Shotgun Messiah. The band recorded a demo and played a few shows but was ended due to Tim being recruited by fellow shock rocker Marilyn Manson (band) to play bass after the departure of co-founding member Twiggy Ramirez. He then joined Dreamworks Recording artist Leisure in Spring of 2003 to record their debut album. The band was dropped from the label before the album was ever released while on the last leg of their west coast tour opening for CKY and The Revolution Smile. In Spring 2005 he joined LA rock band The Dreaming (band) - USA featuring Christopher Hall former lead singer of platinum selling artist Stabbing Westward, Econoline Crush drummer Johnny Haro, Jinxx former guitarist for Amen (band) and Carlton Bost formerly of Deadsy. The band has finished recording their first full length album "Etched in Blood" and completed a national tour opening for Ill Nino as well as played Warped Tour 2007. As of 2007, Ashley is dating Lisa Marx former guitarist for Kittie and Scars of Tomorrow. [edit] Sources

If you want to make changes and try again, copy and paste your article into a new submission and make your changes there. [edit] His BeginningsAlbany Rodney Smith was the eldest son of well-known British evangelist Rodney Gypsy Smith and his wife Annie Elizabeth Pennock. He was born while his parents were heavily involved with the Christian work known as the Christian Mission under the leadership of William Booth. Mr. Booth eventually changed the name of this work to the Salvation Army, while Gipsy Smith was still involved with this organization. It was after Gipsy Smith left the Salvation Army that the family of five (Annie, Albany, Alfred Hanley, and Zillah) settled down at Cherry Hinton, Cambridge, England.{1} As Gipsy Smith began to come to America and hold missions, Annie became mother and father for the children. It was during these times that the three young children would attend school and at home recreate evangelistic missions in their parlor. {2} It was when Albany reached the age of 15 that he asked his parents if he could learn the art of sailing sea vessels and they apprenticed him to a local ship merchant.{3} [edit] SailorAlbany loved sailing and throughout his sermons illustrated his love for the sea. Even though he was apprenticed to a shipping firm at the young age of 15, he rose in rank becoming the second in command of a Trans-Atlantic Liner for the Cunard Steamship Line.{4} It was this same Cunard that launched the famous Titanic liner. It was 1906, when Albany became converted, left the promising career as a sailor, and came to America with his wife, Jessie and their first son, John Rodney (Jack). Settling down in Noank, Connecticut, Albany joined the Presbyterian Evangelist, Dr. J. Wilbur Chapman, as a soloist.{5} [edit] EvangelistAfter joining Chapman as a soloist, Albany and his wife had two more children, G. (George) Wilbur Smith and Jessie Elizabeth (Betty) Smith. It was while the children were still young that Albany began attending Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, Pennsylvania and also began his evangelistic career.{6} It was by 1914 that Albany was known as Gipsy Smith, Jr. and on May 1915 he was ordained into the Northern Baptist Church in Noank.{7} From 1912 to 1951, Gipsy Smith, Jr. had preached in every state in the United States and had traveled to England several times preaching the Gospel. One of his most well known campaigns was in Poindexter Park In Jackson, Mississippi in May of 1922.{8} It was in May 1924 that Gipsy Smith, Jr. flew from Missouri to Memphis, Tennessee to finish an evangelistic campaign of Billy Sunday. In which Mr. Sunday had food poisoning.{9} One of the highlights from Gipsy, Jr.'s ministry was in February of 1928. He was in Waco, Texas and his father was conducting a mission at Mexia, Texas.{10} The elder Smith traveled to Waco, sang a duet with his son and gave a special talk to the ministers that were present. In every city that Gipsy, Jr. would preach he would always give thanks to his father and his Godly influence in his life. He would do this by giving on the last night of his meetings a talk about the history of his people "the Gypsies" and the Conversion story of his father. It was titled, 'From Gypsy Tent to Pulpit'.{11} [edit] His FamilyIt was from the Union of Albany and Jessie they had three children. John Rodney (Jack) which was born in England in 1906, was a famous trial lawyer in Mystic, Connecticut. G. (George) Wilbur Smith became a Presbyterian Pastor and pastored only three churches in his life. One in Dermott, Arkansas from there he went to Stuttgart, Arkansas and eventually went to Batesville, Mississippi. Wilbur passed away August 30, 1992 in Batesville. And lastly they had one daughter, Jessie Elizabeth (Betty) Smith, which was a faithful Christian wife and homemaker.{12} [edit] Notes{1} Cambridge Evening News (April 30, 1987) Pauline Hunt's "Looking Back" Article {2} Gipsy Smith (An Autobiography) 1925 Revell Publishing Company {3} Dr. Gipsy Smith, Jr. Sermon Notes: First Baptist Church Birmingham, Alabama 1940; "Paul's Shipwreck" Acts 27:9-24 {4} Ibid. {5} "Presbyterian Speaker" The Panolian, Batesville, Mississippi, Thursday, November 24, 1949 {6} Alphabetic Biographical Catalog The Crozer Theological Seminary 1855-1933; April 1933; Chester, Pennsylvania. [edit] Herbert Marvin Ohlman
Herbert Marvin Ohlman (1927 - 2002) is the inventor of permutation indexing, or Permuterm and is known as one of the pioneers of information science and technology. [edit] Internation Conference on Scientific InformationIn 1958 Ohlman submitted a paper titled "Subject-word letter frequencies with applications to superimposed coding" to the International Conference on Scientific Information (ICSI) in Washington, DC. The paper was accepted by the chairman of Section 5, H. P. Luhn. At the conference, Ohlman presented a mechanically produced index (using IBM punch cards) to conference pre-print papers. He called this work a permuterm index. Ohlman developed this system while working at System Development Corporation (SDC). For his presentation, entries were selected not just from titles, but also author names and affiliations, headings, captions, sentences, and even phrases selected for their significance as thought units. [edit] KWICAt the same time, Hans Peter Luhn (working with IBM) distributed his paper titled "Bibliography and index: Literature on information retrieval and machine translation", which contained "titles indexed by Key Words-in-Context system", or KWIC. While the appearance of the printed indexes were practically identical, Ohlman's index was produced entirely with IBM tabulating machines. Luhn's system used punched cards only for input, converted the data to punched-paper tape, and used a computer to produce the final index. According to some sources, Ohlman's work preceded Luhn's work on KWIC. "Luhn's term for the approach happened to be more "catchy" and stuck but Ohlman's work was just as important, and possibly, preceded Luhn's work on KWIC.", says Robert V. Williams, Professor and Director of the Office of Research, College of Mass communication and Information Studies at the University of South Carolina. [edit] Other Notable WorkOhlman was the founding char of the ASIST SIG/Education for Information Science and also chaired several other SIGs during his career. Portland Bible College is located in the scenic Pacific Northwest in the beautiful city of Portland, Oregon. The Bible college is on a secluded hillside overlooking majestic mountains, the Columbia River and the city of Portland. It is located at 9150 NE Fremont St Portland, OR 97220 www.portlandbiblecollege.org The college is an educational ministry of City Bible Church (formerly Bible Temple) where students are connected to strong biblical teaching and worship, where they experience personal growth and have opportunities for Christian service. In the fall of 1967 twelve young adults stood in Pastor Dick Iverson’s office, asking that he not send them away to other schools to be trained. The Lord had touched their lives dramatically in the church and they believed that ministry preparation and training would best be accomplished in the church. Thus, Portland Bible College began its long and successful journey with a handful of students, men and women who understood that seasoned church leaders administrate the best church leadership training. In the beginning, Pastor Iverson was concerned that he may be incapable of engineering such an important vision. Still, he realized the critical relationship between the church’s call and the duty of raising up leaders. The careful and prayerful decision to begin the college was confirmed by a prophetic word. The church responded enthusiastically as all agreed the rewards would outweigh any financial sacrifice made. Today one of the great tributes to the vision is the way the school has touched the nations. Since the late 1960’s scores of international students, along with many from the US and Canada, have worshiped and studied at PBC. Currently, international students make up to 23% of the total student population. Australia, Argentina, Columbia, England, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Nicaragua, Romania & Russia are just some of the nations represented at Portland Bible College. The background and cultural diversity, alone, is one of the unique educational features of the college. We extend our deep appreciation to the pioneers of this institution and give thanks to God for His great faithfulness. People like Robert Stricker Sr., David Blomgren, Kevin Conner, and Pastor Dick Iverson are to be commended for giving their energy and strength to the establishment of Portland Bible College. It is clear that PBC has a distinguished past, a challenging present and an exciting future. The need for future world leaders remains the hope of the church and the world. We are determined to honor our heritage of the past and accept our responsibility to the future. OUR DISTINCTIVES Our Local Church Context PBC is a ministry of City Bible Church. Providing ministry preparation and development within the context of the local church is core to our philosophy. The church is critical to keeping the college contemporary with its curriculum, insuring that what is being taught is applicable to the needs of the church today. We believe that preparation within the church allows the student to receive instruction from effective leaders, as well as provide “hands-on” ministry opportunities in Christian service. Our Spiritual Atmosphere One of our most noted distinctive is the spiritual atmosphere at PBC. For decades students have acknowledged the wonderful environment that fosters a deeper relationship with God. Prayer in each class, Spirit-lead worship in the chapels, a prayer center devoted to intercessory prayer and personal devotional times are just a few of the activities that work with the curriculum to build the students relationship with the Lord. It is often within this atmosphere that the student discovers or confirms their future life direction. Our Theology Portland Bible College is Pentecostal and Charismatic in its theological orientation. It places a significant focus on the function and restoration of the local church. Its programs provide a Biblical and theological foundation for students to build their lives and ministries upon. In short, PBC offers an academic and pragmatic approach with the ultimate goal of seeing the church realize its full potential. Our vision is to ground future leaders with a sound theological basis and contemporary spirit-filled life experience. Our Mentoring Approach to Education PBC believes that the educational experience must extend outside the classroom to include mentoring. This approach gives occasion for a unique mentoring relationship between faculty/staff and students. This also provides an opportunity for the personal development of the student to be addressed. Through the mentoring relationship, each student can receive personal and specific ministry for their spiritual and ministerial development. Most graduates’ state that what has benefited them the most was their close relationships with the faculty and staff. The program is now being extended to include church staff as well. Our Local, National and International Student Body PBC boasts one of the largest international and national student ratios in the nation. Students from over 40 nations have attended PBC. This affords each student an opportunity to interact and minister to a broad spectrum of people. Our nation, like others, is becoming more and more ethnically mixed. As a result, we need future Christian leaders that are able to minister to a community that is culturally diverse. PBC offers the student, the chance to learn and minister with future international Christian leaders. OUR ACADEMIC STANDING For over 35 years, Portland Bible College has striven to provide the finest personal and ministerial training possible. We have consistently held to a set of common core values that shape our educational objectives and commit us to continually raise the academic and developmental bar. As a result, we offer to the student the benefit of receiving a degree, transferability of credits to other educational institutions and VA educational benefits. Educational Objectives 1. To give thorough and systematic instruction in God’s Word in order that each student will possess a comprehensive knowledge of the Bible and theology. 2. To nurture the spiritual life and character of each student, within the context of community life and Christian discipline. 3. To assist the personal development of each student through scriptural exposition, mentoring, and integration into local church life. 4. To help each student develop and apply a sound biblical and theological worldview, in order to understand and influence society. 5. To cultivate the gifts, talents and ministry potential of each student within the context of the local church in preparation for future ministry. Degree Granting Status Portland Bible College has been granted exempt status by the State of Oregon to offer theological and church ministry degrees at the associate and baccalaureate level. Currently, the school offers associate degrees in four programs: Christian Humanities, Theology, Church Music, and Church Leadership Studies. Two programs lead to a bachelor degree in Theology or Church Music. Transferability of Credits The college continues to establish a growing number of formal transfer agreements with fully accredited colleges and universities so that students pursuing educational and career objectives beyond Bible College will have the advantage of their credits being transferable. In addition, several local graduate schools are currently accepting our Bachelor Degree toward post graduate study. Students desiring to transfer their PBC credits to other institutions are responsible for determining the requirements of the institution and program to which they plan to transfer. International Students The college is approved by the United States for the admission of non-immigrant students. Veterans Most Portland Bible College programs are approved for VA educational benefits. Veterans and eligible dependents should contact the Registrar so that their enrollment can be certified to the VA. Association and Accreditation Portland Bible College serves under the leadership of the governing body of elders at City Bible Church. This unique relationship between the college and the local church has been the basis for its strength and effectiveness. Currently the appropriate accrediting associations do not make sufficient provision for local church governed colleges, thus PBC has not been able to pursue accreditation. It is however committed to instructional and academic excellence and thus enjoys many of the benefits of accredited colleges. PBC is endeavoring towhile maintain its commitment to its ecclesiastical standards while nurturing a growing academic reputation. As a ministry of City Bible Church, college faculty and administrators feel the school is uniquely equipped to train students for life-long service in the context of their local church community. STUDENT LIFE Portland Bible College offers a variety of rich Christian life experiences. Dormitory life provides the opportunity to develop life-long friendships. Praying together, eating in the cafeteria, and attending small groups are just a few of the dynamics students share as part of their community experience. Dorm “warms” and mud bowls (flag football) are a reminder that there are times just for fun. Prayer and worship are core values in the lives of PBC students. As a result, students often become committed to regular intercessory prayer. Student led worship is a vital part of the two main chapels each week. It is an impressive sight to see students from all over the world lifting their hands and hearts in adoration to God. The students look forward to chapel as the highlight of the week. The search for sound biblical doctrine extends beyond the classroom walls and into small groups, the cafeteria and discussion or prayer meetings held in the student lounge. Professors make themselves accessible to students, and students are able to take advantage of the mentoring relationships that only start in the classroom. Student life includes active participation in the local church. Learned biblical principles are made applicable in real-life ministry responsibilities. This keeps the students abreast with the life of the local church, and enables them to incorporate experience with knowledge in preparation for ministry.

Marie Digby was born on [month day], 1983 in Los Angeles, California and grew up in the Brentwood, California area. Digby, had a normal childhood, but was always very little shy, feeling more comfortable hiding under the bleachers during high school football games than in front of any crowd. She started playing the piano in High School and began to secretly write songs, even hiding them from her family. While a senior in high school, the timid and nervous Marie Digby signed up for a talent show. Although she was nervous to perform, she went on anyway and the audience loved it. This was to be the first of many performances that were to come. She began University of California at Berkely in 2002 as a philosophy major. She was on the three-day schedule (she took all her classes in three days) so she would have more time to play with the new band she had formed. She was performing all over the Los Angeles area, including places such as the infamous Whiskey a Go Go and The Troubadour.
