[edit] David Phetteplace
Musical Career David Phetteplace is the vocalist of Viking Death Metal band Autopsy Prophecy. The band are known for their strong Folk Metal and Power Metal influences, while still being considered a Death Metal band. Lyrically, they are known for their complex story telling, highly influenced by Fantasy stories by authors such as R. A. Salvatore and J. R. R. Tolkien. Some of their songs have been known to hold strong political messages as well. Phetteplace is also a politician in his local areas, so this is to be expected. Most notably, their untitled song that called for the complete removal of the Bush Administration at "any cost". Phetteplace never made clear outside of the sung lyrics what that might entail. [edit] Tobacco Open Bale
Sir Harry Flashman (or “Flashy” to his friends) gained international fame when he was first mentioned (and then expelled) in the worldwide bestselling book, “Tom Brown’s School Days” - based on the life of Tom Brown at Rugby School. After leaving Rugby School, Flashy became one of the most notable and honored figures of the Victorian era. After participating in the charge of the Light Brigade in October 1854, at the battle of Balaclava (which was immortalized by the poem of the same name by Alfred, Lord Tennyson), Flashy was sent to India. It was during this spell in India that Flashy first conceived the idea of the open bale! He was actually sent to India by Queen Victoria to go to Jhansi and investigate rumors of an upcoming rebellion among the Sepoys (this whole adventure is chronicled in the book, “Flashman in the Great Game”). Flashy first arrived in Goa on his way to Jhansi. (Tobacco originally started in India in Goa in the 16th century, brought there by Portuguese traders who had gotten blown off course on their way to Brazil). While there, he became embroiled in a romantic competition between himself and the German Ambassador, Helmut von Scharnhorst (whose grandfather was the Prussian General, Gerhard von Scharnhorst, later to have a battleship named after him which was then sunk by the British Navy in 1943 off the coast of Norway). Both were competing for the attention of a beautiful Indian Princess, Shaton-Mehed. Princess Shaton-Mehed owned numerous estates, including tobacco plantations. Unfortunately due to the tobacco being packed in “leaves and other less poisonous flora” terrible mixing & nesting occurred in the bales. Which resulted in the tobacco being unsuitable for chewing and snorting. She had originally asked the help of Helmut von Scharnhorst, who immediately implemented a “no-tolerance policy” (which was unfortunately badly transplanted from German into English, and ended up as the “Nine Tolerances Policy”). The new policy stated that should a farmer be caught with nesting in his bale, he was to be immediately taken outside and shot. Of course, farmer moral and tobacco production dropped dramatically, resulting in the “Goa farmer rebellion of 1855”. Upon arriving at Goa in 1856, Flashy saw an immediate opportunity to restore peace and order (and potentially score with a Princess!). Being of sound mind and dubious character, Flashy understood the farmers nesting concept. He therefore needed to find a way to restore farmer moral while at the same time score points with the Princess. And so, one day while conducting his afternoon ablutions after a particularly tricky vindaloo, Flashy became inspired by his toiletry habits and conceived the idea of using tobacco to wrap around tobacco. Or as we prefer to call it, the open bale. He presented his idea to the Princess who was so delighted with the concept that she had it implemented immediately and proclaimed Flashy to be the next German Ambassador. Of course Helmut von Scharnhorst was most upset, as was Flashy, who felt he looked or behaved nothing like a German! In order to save his honor, Helmut challenged Flashy to a duel by pistol. Being a master swordsman, Flashy accepted, arranged a rendezvous and then did not pitch-up (being a notorious cad of the first order). Outraged, Helmut declared the open bale was in fact his idea and demanded compensation from the British government for damages done to his reputation. (This claim is still pending a decision in the British High Courts). Flashy was saved by Queen Victoria who ordered him to proceed to Jhansi to complete his original mission. (Which he did and in the process received a knighthood). As an additional reward, the British Government dispatched Flashy to Indonesia, hot on the heels of the Dutch & English colonization (cultural & economic exchange program). Naturally when he arrived in Indonesia, he immediately saw the opportunity of applying the tobacco open bale. This time, to avoid any potential conflicts and without seeking self glorification, Flashy showed the local farmers on the outskirts of Surabaya (in Jember & Bojonegoro) how to package their tobacco and then “disappeared” (only to re-appear one year later in Peking). To this day, locals still speak of “The Other White Raja” (the original “White Raja” being Lord Raffles, whom the chain of hotels in Asia was named after). Appendix:- Flashy died in 1915 at the second Somme, at the tender age of 93. While leading a charge of the Scottish Highland regiment “over the top”, he became disorientated and accidentally charged a trench full of Frenchmen. The French naturally startled by a large group of screaming men in dresses, opened fired and gunned down the entire battalion. Flashy was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross (VC). Helmut von Scharnhorst produced 11 children, 3 of questionable origin. The eighth child, Mohammad, became entangled in a political scandal and fled Germany to re-settle in South American in 1919. It is believed he took with him the secret of the open bale which he later sold to a trader in the Rio Grande named “Mexico Pete” (later to become immortalized in the poem, “Eskimo Nell”). How Mexico Pete spread the concept of the open bale in South America still remains a mystery; however Mexico Pete’s movements can be traced by the trail of social diseases that followed in his wake! [edit] Christina Petrowska Quilico
One of Canada’s foremost pianists, Christina Petrowska Quilico is widely recognized as an innovative and adventurous artist and a leading champion of the music of our time. Much in demand as an interpreter of contemporary music, she has premiered more than 100 new works, many written especially for her. Over the course of her career, Petrowska Quilico has collaborated with a long list of eminent international and Canadian composers, including Violet Archer, Pierre Boulez, Glenn Buhr, John Cage, Christos Hatzis, Lowell Liebermann, Alexina Louie, R. Murray Schafter, Krzysztof Penderecki, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Claude Vivier and John Weinzweig. She has performed with most new music groups and chamber ensembles in Canada, as well as many outstanding orchestras including the Toronto and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestras, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Esprit Orchestra and Vancouver Chamber Orchestra. Her concert tours, both as soloist and with her late husband, the legendary Metropolitan Opera baritone Louis Quilico, have taken her across four continents. On the recital stage, her appearances include prestigious New York City venues such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall and Merkin Concert Hall. Petrowska Quilico’s vast and diverse repertoire is reflected in more than 20 recordings of classical, romantic, new and world music, including a Juno-nominated CD with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and four CDs with Louis Quilico. Petrowska Quilico’s CD Virtuoso Piano Music of Our Time made its debut on the Space Shuttle Columbia with Canadian astronaut Steve MacLean. In September 2006, her recording of David Mott’s piano concerto “Eclipse” (which she premiered earlier in the year in a gala concert inaugurating the Recital Hall in York University’s Accolade Project) accompanied MacLean on the Space Shuttle Atlantis. Her latest recordings include the world premiere performances of the three-CD set of “Rivers” by Ann Southam as part of the Canadian Composer Portraits series, and the world premiere of a two-CD set of “16 Portraits – Romantic Etudes” by Michel-Georges Brégent, both on the Centrediscs label. Born in Ottawa, Petrowska Quilico studied with Boris Berlin at the Royal Conservatory of Music, where she made her debut, with orchestra, at the age of 10. She studied at New York’s Juilliard School with Rosina Lhévinne, Jeaneane Dowis and Irwin Freundlich. From them, she acquired the formidable technique that allows her to learn challenging new works in very short time, and to perform them with dazzling virtuosity. At 14, she made her New York concert debut with full orchestra at Town Hall as a co-winner with fellow student Murray Perahia of the High School of the Performing Arts Concerto Competition. After graduation, she extended her studies at the Sorbonne in Paris, and later in Darmstadt and Berlin with Karlheinz Stockhausen and György Ligeti. Petrowska Quilico is the author and artist of three published books, including Opera Illustrated: An Artistic Odyssey and Mr. Rigoletto: In Conversation with Louis Quilico. She is professor of piano and musicology in the Department of Music at York University. [edit] ReferencesEncyclopedia of Music in Canada [edit] External links

[edit] Warsaw Poland Bros

Warsaw Pact men by Chris Haire / 07-04-2007 Warsaw Poland Brothers Look, when it comes to choosing your band name, there are two simple rules you have to follow. No. 1: You cannot name your band after a city, county, country or continent. Only sucky ass prog rock and adult contemporary bands do that sort of thing—Kansas, Asia, Boston, Chicago, Berlin, America, Styx. (OK. Styx really isn’t a city, county, country or continent; it’s a river in the afterlife, but more importantly, it’s a band that is on the same level of the suck-o-meter as the aforementioned musical monstrosities.) No. 2: You cannot name your band the same name as another band or artist, which is what Wham, Nirvana and Guns N’ Roses did. (What? You mean there aren’t two bands named Guns N’ Roses? Really. All this time I thought that band fronted by the chubby guy with a braided weave and one too many Botox injections was totally different from the one front by the skinny red-headed guy with the bad teeth and the bandana.) This brings us to ska lovers Warsaw. They commit a double fault. Not only are they named after a Polish town, but they took a name once taken by the band that eventually became the synth-powered goth rockers Joy Division. That said, Warsaw should be forgiven for their crimes against musical monikers. Why? Well, truth be told, you’ve actually caught us in a bit of a lie; they’ve actually committed no crimes whatsoever. (The band’s full name is Warsaw Poland Brothers.) And two, they’re a damn good ska band. Granted, they’re not on the same level as say Madness or even the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, but they’re kilts and claymores above most. Maybe even as good as local faves Go Jimmy Go, with whom they will be playing. -Honolulu Weekly 07/06/2007 [edit] Sourceswww.invisiblemassrecords.com www.polandbros.com http://honoluluweekly.com/hotpicks/2007/07/warsaw-pact-men/

[edit] Chillicothe-Brunswick Rail Maintenance Authority
The Chillicothe-Brunswick Rail Maintenance Authority (AAR reporting marks CBRM) is a shortline railroad in north-central Missouri that runs from Chillicothe, Missouri southeastward through the communities of Sumner and Triplett on its way to Brunswick, Missouri. The 39 miles of railroad was once Wabash Railroad and Norfolk and Western Railway property before N&W abandoned the railroad in the 1980s. The railroad also had 3 hookups to other railroads...The Iowa, Chicago and Eastern Railroad (formerly the Milwaukee Road, Soo Line Railroad, and I&M Rail Link) in Chillicothe, BNSF Railway (formerly Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, and Burlington Northern) in Sumner, and Norfolk Southern (formerly Wabash and N&W) in Brunswick. The Chillicothe Southern railroad bought the 39 miles tracks and used the property before selling the right of way to the CBRM on July 24, 1987. However, the line was leased to the Wabash and Grand River Railway on April 1, 1990, but after the major flooding that hit the midwest in 1993 caused the tracks to receive heavy flood damage, the line became once again the CBRM after the Wabash and Grand River RR terminated it's lease on December 1, 1993. On December 8, 2006, the Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune reported that the city of Chillicothe sold the majority, about 37 miles, of the railroad to Seattle, Washington based Montoff Transportation, LLC for $976,000. The part of the railroad that was sold has been embargoed since 2003. The city still owns the railroad to the city's industrial park and to a location just east of Chillicothe where future development is planned. Today, the part of the railroad that stretched from Brunswick northward through Triplett and to where it meets up with BNSF railway in Sumner has been torn down, while the tracks north of that to the location east of Chillicothe have been abandoned and most of the tracks are covered in vegetation. [edit] Online Tax Returns (Australia)
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) offers a free “E-tax” service where individuals can submit their Australian tax returns online. In 2006, over 1.6 million Australians used this service [1]. One of the advantages of E-tax over filling out a paper return is that the prompts ensure you answer only relevant information and many of the calculations are automatically done for you. It also gives you an on-the-spot estimate of your refund or tax debt. The main disadvantage of this service is that it offers no professional advice as to how taxpayers can maximise their refunds. Users can also face penalties as a result of inadvertently breaking tax rules. There are a number of private online websites who offer professional tax advice for a fee and who will act for clients in the case of an ATO audit. According to E-tax Accountants, 80% of self-preparers are lodging incorrect tax returns[4]. Self-preparers are paying too much or too little tax. Although the ATOprovides a lot of information on how to comply with Income Tax Legislation to avoid penalties and fines, many taxpayers find this information overwhelming. By using a private website, taxpayers not only gain the advantages of doing their tax online, but also get professional help and the tax savings are usually higher than the fee charged. They also are also less likely to face penalties as a result of breaking tax rules. [edit] Alois Burgstaller
Alois was a trained watchmaker and he also liked to sing. Burgstaller's singing talent was discovered during a layman theatre performance in in a church. Alois was encouraged to sing professionally by Cosima Wagner and he made a serious study of Opera. He studied in Frankfurt and at the Bayreuth School under Julius Kniese and made his stage debut in 1894 at the Bayreuth Festival in a small role. Burgstaller performed the roles of Siegfried, Siegmund, Erik and Parsifal at the Bayreuth Festivals in Austria (1896-1902). Following a promising start, Alois played all large roles for Richard Wagner's operas in Bayreuth and in many large operas of the world - performing around the world in places like Paris, Zurich, Budapest, London, Amsterdam and Moscow Alois made his American debut at the in New York playing Siegmund in "Die Walküre" on February 12, 1903. Performing throughout the US in San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Los Angeles, He remained on the cast for almost six years. His final performance as Siegmund was on January 14, 1909. Burgstaller also sang the title role in the first staged American performance of Richard Wagner's "Parsifal" in New York City on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1903. The performance was in violation of the German copyright law and as a result, which drew considerable wrath from Cosima Wagner, who was trying to gain exclusive protection for the work. As a result, Burgstaller, as well as Anton van Rooy and conductor Alfred Hertz, were banned from any further performances at Bayreuth He spent his old age in St.Quirin, municipality Gmund at the Tegernsee till his death in 1945. He is buried in his parents <grave?> at the Holzkirchner cemetery found Alois Burgstaller. This request for creation has been reviewed. The reviewer comments appear below the article text.
If you want to make changes and try again, copy and paste your article into a new submission and make your changes there. Nathalie Hambro has written a number of books and has contributed to many magazines. She has worked in a wide range of areas including interior design, fashion, cookery and jewellery. BOOKS & MEDIA Past work includes writing an acclaimed series of cookery books. One of them, Particular Delights, won the prestigious Glenfiddich Award. "...a little gem of a book" (Nigel Slater, The Observer 1996, Particular Delights re-edition) She has also worked as contributing editor to British Vogue and Elle Decoration; and has worked regularly with the Sunday Times Magazine. In 1998 Nathalie published The Art of the Handbag. The book won the McNaughton award for its design and photographs. In 2006, Nathalie launched her new book My London, about people and places. This was followed by My London blog, as well as sites on MySpace and Youtube showing her videos of the city. Nathalie is currently working on a new book project. DESIGN & FASHION Nathalie designed and launched her metal lunchbox at Harvey Nichols. The lunchbox became an iconic product (seen everyday on Channel 4's Big Breakfast) and sells all over the world. "Nathalie Hambro is out to make the packed lunch chic with her embossed metal lunchboxes. Hambro has spent her life defining and selling style through her mark as an interior designer, and writer for Vogue" (Time Out, 16 February 1994) In 1997 she launched a collection of handcrafted - like couture - limited edition handbags. These are housed in the V & A Museum permanent collections, as well as at the Museum at F.I.T. in New York. "Her handbags...more an exploration of the handbag as an art form... redolent with cultural references, exploring history, paradox, female identity, fetishes,...all of life's deep mysteries.. (Lucia van der Post, The Times, 19 Friday 2004) Nathalie signed an exclusive contract to design handbags and jewellery, with Paris couturier House of Balmain. Besides the London shop, The Cross, her products are sold at prime outlets in Japan and America, including cult store Takashimaya in New York. Nathalie also designed handbag collections for Saks Fifth Avenue, and signed under the Designers at Debenhams label. "..and any best dress list should include Kate Moss, Lucy Ferry, Isabella Blow, Nathalie Hambro..These are the women who push the fashion forward and do their own thing. People who have, in a word, style" (Mimi Spencer, Evening Standard, 16 April 1996) Nathalie has exhibited at the Contemporary Decorative Arts, a selling exhibition at Sotheby’s London. Each year, for over six years, Nathalie has brought a different creative agenda to her fashion and jewellery pieces. "One highlight is fashion designer Nathalie Hambro's Cappuccino Dress, a ball gown made of gold-sprayed coffee filter bags" (The Wall Street Journal, 3 January 2003) 2004 saw the launch of her new brand, Fullofchic, her signature collection of clothes, accessories and jewellery. This coincided with a new showroom in Berkeley Square, Mayfair. The V & A Museum acquired some pieces for their permanent collections, and soon after the Reflective Coat, and Skirt, are displayed in their Fashion Gallery along with Tracey Amin’s "Suitcase" piece. JEWELLERY For many years Nathalie has studied antique jewellery (15th to 19th century European) through the library and collections at the V & A Museum. She became a member of the Society of Jewellery Historians. When De Beers and Losa, a South African trust, set up the first ever collaboration between British designers and South African craft workers they selected Nathalie to create new designs fusing traditional craft skills and contemporary design. Tom Dixon, Ed Barber and Jay Osgerby, were other designers involved in the project. "..here is work that manages to retain the precious hallmarks of its indigenous origins but allies the traditional craft skills to a sophisticated contemporary aesthetic." (Lucia van den Post, Evening Standard, 18 February 2002) Nathalie has worked with jeweller Hamilton & Inches, a long established firm which was part of the Asprey/Garrard group, to design the company's first in-house collection which was launched at their new Knightsbridge outlet . Nathalie's own fashion-orientated collection was sold at Erickson Beamon. [edit] Lorraine Jordan
[edit] BiographyLorraine Jordan was born in Wales to Irish parents and was based in Scotland for many years before her recent move to London in 2006. She was influenced from a young age by Irish traditional music. Her father in his day was an All-Ireland flute champion and her uncle Frank Jordan a renowned flute player in Co. Roscommon to this day... her grandmother played concertina and her grandfather was a fine singer. The first ballads Lorraine learned were taught to her by her elder sister Philomena, herself is a beautiful singer. This, along with her contemporary influences is reflected in her powerful and melodic songs. They have been covered by many artists including Archie Fisher and John Wright. She has released 3 CDs to much critical acclaim and is considered by many to be among the leading songwriters living in the UK today. She has toured Europe extensively and has a growing audience in the USA and Australia. Her fourth CD is due for release in the summer 2007. [edit] EARLY DAYSLorraine Jordan started her singing days in the folk clubs of South Wales. While still at school she joined the band Mooncoin, an Irish/Welsh combination with fiddler Mike Lease (Yr Hwyntws) and piper Theo Schurmanns. On her first musical trip abroad she represented Wales (through the Welsh Tourist Board) in Paris and Lyon as a bouzouki player, accompanying Mike Lease and Welsh singer Heather Jones, This marked the beginning of many musical adventures..... She left Wales for Scotland and joined the Irish/Scots band Malin Head, based in Edinburgh. As well as being the lead vocalist in the band, she also played guitar, bouzouki, bodhran and percussion. The band toured extensively throughout Europe and Scandinavia playing self-penned and traditional tunes as well as a few of Lorraine's original songs. It was in the later stages of her time in the band that she met bouzouki player Niall O'Callanain, and guitarist John Whelan. The two encouraged Lorraine to go over to Ireland and record her debut CD Inspiration in 1991 at Starc Studio, Dublin. Thus, armed with a "Prince's Trust Loan" and some very kind-hearted and extremely talented musicians she embarked upon her solo career as a singer-songwriter. Inspiration was released to much critical acclaim, as was her second CD, Crazy Guessing Games, which came out on the Scottish Label Lochshore. Most recently she produced This Big Feeling on her own label. The CD continues to receive rave reviews. [edit] CD RELEASESNEW CD RELEASE 2007– A Light Over There (HZ 011), release date July 2007 Lorraine Jordan's music is rightly described as Celtic Soul. In this stunning new album – A Light Over There - Lorraine takes the influences of her Irish roots and love of traditional ballads and combines them with contemporary musical influences to create an intoxicating and thought provoking set of original songs, driven by powerful silk wrapped vocals. The result is simply infectious. It is no mystery as to why she is considered by many to be one of the finest and most talented singer songwriters in Britain today. Musicians on the album “A Light Over There” : Lorraine Jordan – vocals, guitar, bouzouki Laka D – piano (The Guest Stars, Electric Landlady etc) Jenny Maidman – acoustic and electric guitars, slide guitar, bass (Paul Brady) Roy Dodds – drums, percussion (Eddie Reader, Fairground Attraction) Neil Davey – mandolin (previously with Anam and a member of Lorraine's band for 4 years previous. Currently with Dalla.) Kate Baker – cello (Currently with Glasgow based band Mouse Eat Mouse. Has played with Lorraine for many years) Richard Jones – accordion (previously with Climax Blues Band. [edit] Goro Nickel
The progressive start-up of the mining and industrial complex currently under construction will commence in 2009. To process the ore, the project will be using leading-edge technology developed by Inco: this fourth-generation hydrometallurgical process will provide a cost-effective means of processing laterite with a low nickel content, thereby ensuring low-cost production and reducing the plant's impact on the environment. The Goro plateau nickel and cobalt deposit is one of the largest in the world. It provides Goro Nickel with a production capacity of 60,000 tonnes of nickel in the form of nickel oxide and 4,500 tonnes of cobalt in the form of cobalt carbonate. Goro Nickel is a responsible company which aims to produce the metals that the market requires while at the same respecting the environment, the people and the French territory where it is located, using the best technology available, at an economically viable cost, so as to contribute to local development and establish itself as a responsible member of the community. Goro Nickel is committed to applying the best technologies available with a view to optimising the protection of an environment which it knows to be fragile. The most rigorous emission standards are being applied, the precautionary approach is being adopted and a program is in place for the mining sites to be fully rehabilitated using endemic local species. Goro Nickel is listening to the communities surrounding it and working with them on the development of programs designed to manage the impacts on neighbouring populations so as to maximise the positive side-effects and minimise the negative ones.

[edit] The Iron Chair (torture)
From the days when torture was a wonderful way of gaining information and getting rid of Christian martyrs, there were many interesting devices and ways of going about it. One such device was the Iron Chair, which is very similar to a gridiron today. The victim was placed on several strips of brass over an open flame, and slowly roasted alive. There were other variations, such as: "[culprits] were tied to an iron armchair, then slowly pushed nearer and nearer to a blazing fire." Some rulers, such as Ferdinand VII of Naples, brought with them a collapsible iron chair, "complete with pointed legs by which it could be secured in the ground, and a pan beneath for the burning coals." A similar item is an Iron Bed.
