[edit] Ahmad al-Muhajir
Believed to have been born in 241 Hirah (820 CE) according to al-Qirtas by Sayyid Ali bin Hasan, Al-Imam Ahmad bin Isa was called Al-Muhajir (emigrant) as he left Basra, Iraq during the Abbassid Caliphate that was headquatered in Baghdad in the year 317H (896 CE). He first went to Madinah and Mecca, and in 318 H from Mecca to Yemen at around 319H. He migrated at a time when there was much internal strife, bloodshed and confusion in Iraq then where a large number of the descendants of the Holy Messenger Muhammad were persecuted for political reasons by the ruling Abbasid. Descendants of Muhammad were of high spiritual learning and thus attracted large followers regardless of being Shiite and Sunni. This obviously attracted the government's suspicion fearful of a rebellion and being toppled. Imam Ahmad Al-Muhajir is an Imam Mujtahid, whose rulings are followed, rather than following any other known Islamic inclinations. He passed away in 345h (924 M) at Husayyisah, a town between Tarim and Seiyun, Hadramaut. His shrine stands on a hill and is among the first visitors to Hadramaut pay their respects tos when visiting the holy valley. All the sayyids from the illustrious saintly family of BaAlawi, Hadramaut trace their descent to him. A large number of the Nine Saints of Java or Wali Songo in Indonesia trace their descent to Al-Imam Ahmad Al-Muhajir bin Isa. [edit] Skorm graffiti
Skorm, a well known graffiti artist in Atlanta usualy dosen't do peices, but either does tags or throw ups(mostly on stickers or in markers). He has a very distinked style in art, very simple yet hard to duplicate you could say his style was close to Berzerker or Botch. His most famous character is Bes1 which sort of looks like a mixture between an alligater and a cone head with no bottom jaw. He is a self taught artist who grew up in Atlanta and is the founder and a member of the MoFo Crew along with Saint(also founder of the MoFo Crew), Arcane, Test, Demon, Sperm, and many more. [edit] Paddle Brush
A paddle brush is a tool used commonly among Indian women and other females who possess an inordinate supply of hair. A simple brush is not enough to "quaf their manes," so they require a paddle brush with its ridiculously large base in order to brush their hair. Since it is such a large object, it can also be useful in fending off burglars, this is where the term "paddle smack" came from. In addition, his first poetry chapbook, The Multiplication of Joy into Integers, won Iowa’s Blue Light Prize and appeared in print from Blue Light Press in summer 2003. His poetry has also appeared in the journals kenning, Bad Subjects, Lungfull, Lit, eye:rhyme and LinQ, among others, and in the collections The New Breed: Bad Boys, Gents and Barbarians 2 (Windstorm Creative, 2004) and Bordered Sexualities (forthcoming from San Diego State University Press, 2007). It has been exhibited as fashion through the Long Beach Foundation for the Arts (New Jersey) and as sculpture through Parlor Gallery, Lancaster, PA. Furthermore, Michael Angelo possesses extensive teaching experience. Having been a vital part of City University of New York’s Hunter College (1999-2003) and City University of New York’s John Jay College’s (1997-1999) English, Women’s Studies and Comparative Literature Departments, he understands the integral role of the university professor in fostering independent creative production and critical enquiry among burgeoning minds. He has been most successful at teaching interdisciplinary “Special Studies” seminars, the majority of which have been cross-listed with Comparative Literature and Women’s Studies courses. Consequently, he received Hunter College’s prestigious Presidential Award in Teaching Excellence in 2002. Michael Angelo’s areas of expertise are Aesthetics, International Romanticism, and Modern/Postmodern American poetries. His M.A. degree was awarded on the basis of a volume of prose poetry exploring connections among sexuality, fashion and words (Primer for the Would-be Gentle Man). For his Ph.D., he wrote Andy Warhol: POMO Pimp, Pop tart, Meta-star, a theoretical and biographical exploration of Warhol’s unique sublimity, the philosophy of celebrity, and the centrality of the altered state to Romantic and postmodern discourses. This work draws heavily upon systems theory/autopoiesis, Hegelian and Kantian aesthetics and the phenomenologies of Husserl and Merleau-Ponty. Let me explain. This guy looks notable, but despite the plethora of provided sources, none of them are sufficient to verify his notability. The first several items are links to his own work -- that obviously doesn't validate notability. Of the remaining items, one is his personal web site, and two are university publications that do nothing more than verify that he teaches there. Please resubmit this article after finding some third-party sources so we can verify the claims of notability. Powers T 02:47, 24 June 2007 (UTC) |

[edit] Landlubber
Landlubber is a word used by experienced boaters to describe people who are either unfamiliar with the rigors of boating, susceptible to (and often experiencing) Sea-sickness or Mal de mer or haven't gotten their "Sea legs" yet, or people who have no desire to ever get onto a boat. This term is usually used in a pejorative context, putting down their lack of adeptness in dealing with rough waters or lack of inclination against such adventures. In the context of "Pirate Slang," it is considered an outright insult. Categorization: [edit] SourcesTalk Like A Pirate Day

[edit] Andy Vaz
Andy Vaz hails from Düsseldorf, Germany, the breeding ground of Kraftwerk. Since 1997, Andy manages and curates Background Recordings, internationally acclaimed as being one of the most instrumental labels to concentrate on what people refer to as: minimal techno. Long before Minimal Techno turned into a genre, and subgenre after subgenre were invented, Andy has already been concentrating on providing a cultural conduit for more minimal electronic music, between Düsseldorf, San Francisco, Detroit, Montreal, Toronto, London, Chicago, South Africa, Monterrey, Perth and countless other cities around the world. Some of the most influential international musicians of the minimal electronic music movement had their works presented on his Background Imprint. Artists such as: Sutekh, Jan Jelinek, Todd Sines, Terrence Dixon, Jeff Milligan, Akufen, Submania, Dean DeCosta, Rhythm Maker, Kit Clayton, Ectomorph, Deadbeat, Baby Ford, Stewart Walker, Donnacha Costello, Geoff White, Smyglyssna, Portable, Antiguo Automata Mexicano, Oliver Hacke, Frivolous and many others have graced the Background stage. The Label has been a major force in the presentation of minimal techno, introducing and educating the world to the geographic variable influences that exist within the genre. As the years have passed, house music and techno have fused, segregated, split and recombined in countless ways. Both techno and house have drawn influences from one another to create hybrids that have changed the face of music as we know it. Andy could not ignore his undeniable appreciation for the house movement and therefore, decided to start a second label in order to help facilitate the growing relationship between global deep house and minimal techno: "A touch of Class / ATC" was born. In 2000, Andy Vaz has released his own material. At first he started his Sound Variation [---] series. A set of 10 conceptual releases where as the sound can be defined by the criteria of one's imagination constrained only by the definition of it being 4/4 based electronic music without following any clearly defined linear sound aesthetic or concept. All works simply defined by the criteria of re-use, recycling of same instrumentations, within the context of boundless compositional approaches. Next to the series Andy Vaz also started putting out minimal techno dance material recently. Music, that is focused on the Groove and is based on his rich experiences as an internationally rewarded Live Act. Apart from having played countless clubs, festivals and venues, he’s done everything from the legendary “Liquid Room” in Tokyo to the Mutek Festival in Mexico. Andy has build up an excellent reputation as a crowd shaking and unique sounding live act. Known for extended two hour dance live-sets to more abstract listening performances Andy proves to be diverse and suitable in various musical contexts. In march 2007 Vaz launched a new label called “YORE”, which will focus on the authentic old school Detroit & Chicago House Sound with original artists such as Detroit’s Rick Wade, Terrence Dixon, Todd Sines among others just to name a few, presenting a new platform for these artists as well as for himself, which will help spread his musical visions further to new audiences. [edit] Melolagnia
Melolagnia is a parasexual proclivity. Melolagnia is the ‘sense specific’ sexual arousal caused by the playing and/or listening of/to music. Like some other parasexualities, it can be categorised as an outrageously marginal fetish but has existed throughout history. Orsnino in the opening scene of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night was passionate about music and demonstrates melolagnia in his carnal response towards music thus:
ORSINO: If music be the food of love, play on, Give me excess of it that, surfeiting, The appetite may sicken and so die. That strain again, it had a dying fall. O, it came o’er my ear like the sweet sound That breathes upon a bank of violets, Stealing and giving odour. Enough no more, ‘Tis not so sweet now as it was before. [edit] Weapons of the Halo Universe
Human Weapons The weapons used by humans are composed primarily of projectile weapons with the exceptions of the Rocket Launcher and the Spartan Laser. While bullets are not as strong as the Covenant's plasma based weaponry, they are still highly effective if used in the proper way. M6D- This is the first weapon that was used in the Halo universe. It was seen only in Halo Combat Evolved. It uses a 12.7mm round that has a long range capability due to the 2X scope. In Halo 2 the pistol was replaced by the smaller, stripped down Magnum which has no scope but is capable of being dual wielded. In Halo 3 the Magnum is more powerful with an 8 round clip but is still lacking a scope. Battle Rifle-In Halo 2 this 7.62mm rifle was the replacement for the MA5B and did an excellent job. It help 32 rounds and fired in 3 round bursts. It will present in Halo 3 Assault Rifle-The MA5B and MA5C are both Assault Rifles that use 7.62mm rounds and are effective against almost all types of enemies. The MA5B is used in Combat Evolved and has a 60 round clip while the MA5C has only 32 rounds but has a much straighter line of fire. The MA5C is a confirmed element in Halo 3. SMG-The SMG is a small "Bullet Hose" firing 10mm caseless rounds. While not very powerful compared to the other weapons its rate of fire combined with its dual wield capabilities make it an excellent weapon when fighting multiple Covenant. It is not recommended that for this weapon to be used against larger enemies or vehicles. Shotgun-The M90 Shotgun is an 8 Gauge magnum shotgun and is extremely powerful at close range. It is able to take out multiple enemies or stop one very large one. In Halo and Halo 2 it carries 12 rounds but has been updated in Halo 3 to carry only 6 rounds. It is recommended that you carry this at all times possible with a secondary medium/long range weapon. Rocket Launcher-A 102mm shaped charge that is capable of destroying almost any enemy in one shot. This is a long range weapon that in Halo 2 is capable of a lock. (The lock was removed for Halo 3 but is being put into the Missile Pod which can shoot heat seeking missiles.) Spartan Laser-The Laser is a new addition to the Halo universe and is capable of destroying any enemy in one shot. The sights must be on a target for 3+ seconds to fire. Sniper Rifle-The Sniper Rifle fires a 14.5mm round that actually has stabalizing fins. It is very powerful and can bring down all Covenant in one well placed shot. This weapon is not to be used at any time against the Flood as it has no noticable effect. Chaingun-Most likely a 50 Caliber mounted machine gun. Found on the backs of Warthogs or in Halo 3 in removable stands. Sources Gamepro Issue #226 July 2007 Pages 48-49 Trautmann, Eric S. [edit] Closed for Remodeling
Perhaps the lowest point of Shaw's remarkable career was the World War I era, when his scathing opposition to the war drew the ire of the British government and nearly resulted in his being tried for treason. Not surprisingly, Shaw responded to his critics with his pen, crafting the play now known as Heartbreak House, a devastating commentary on the "Great War" and a bitter and withering attack on the spiritually bankrupt generation responsible for it. Shaw's sardonic wit was not restricted to the text of the play, however. The drama, Shaw's first new work in several years, was eagerly anticipated by a London theatre-going crowd finally freed from the horrors of the long and bloody war with Germany. But Shaw, in a fit of churlishness brought on by anger over public criticism of his anti-war stance, mischievously titled his play Closed for Remodeling. Theatre owners who staged Shaw's new offering shook their heads in puzzled disbelief at the sparse crowds in attendance night after night. Finally, when the play was into the third week of its initial run (and two of the four London theatres staging it had already shut down their productions), a stage manager at the Savoy Theatre finally realized the problem: the playbills advertising Closed for Remodeling that had been posted all over town were leading patrons to believe the theatre was temporarily shut down for renovation. The Savoy re-launched the play under the title Heartbreak House, and it has been known by that name ever since. Shaw himself professed innocence, of course, but there was little doubt that the results of his unfortunate choice of title were exactly what he had planned. As always, G.B. had the last laugh. (Fortunately, his play Quarantine remained unfinished at his death and was never produced.) [edit] Sourceshttp://www.kirjasto.sci.fi/gbshaw.htm 24.172.47.66 20:58, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Jared Lee Gosselin
What do India Arie, Macy Gray, Floetry, D-12, Keyshia Cole, & Young Jeezy, to name a few all have in common? If you guessed Grammy nominations, you are incorrect! The correct answer is Jared Lee Gosselin, super-producer hailing from Detroit, Michigan better known as Motor City or Motown. During the 60’s & 70’s via the Motown Records imprint, Detroit Michigan rose to musical prominence as the “Motown” sound dominated the music charts with acts such as Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin. Detroit also spawned a high-energy rock scene centered around artists like Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Mitch Ryder, Rare Earth, and Bob Seger. In the late 90’s, Detroit would once again gain national and international prominence fueled by Hip Hop acts Eminem and D-12. Suffice to say, music is an intrinsic component woven into the very fabric that makes Detroit, Michigan a musical oasis and Jared Lee Gosselin is without question a product of his environment! By the tender age of five, Jared had mastered his mother’s RCA Victor 45 record player but at the age of 15 he had graduated from playing music on his turntable to making it. Armed with his Technics SL-1200 turntables, Jared created his own turntable disciplines following drum rudiments; eventually transforming his turntables to an instrument. As a high school senior, Jared enrolled part-time at RID (Recording Institute of Detroit) and following his high school graduation, he would enroll full time obtaining his record engineering certification two years later. Subsequently in 1999, at the recommendation of an RID professor, Jared went to intern for Barrett Strong and Robert Bateman; two of the chief architects of the Motown Sound having written hits including Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” & the Marvelettes “Please Mr. Postman”. Jared’s duties ran the gamut from electrically wiring basic rooms and converting them to operational studios, synching MP keyboards, editing and recording in pro-tools, mixing etc. There was no task he was not capable of doing, surpassing expectations to the point where all Barret would say was “Work your magic!” In 2000, Jared was running two studios, his own named Asylum and that of a local street hustler affiliated with many of Detroit’s most esteemed artists. At that time he was engineering for Proof (D-12), Obie Trice (D-12), Slum Village, MC Breed, Juvenile, and Bizzy Bone in addition to creating radio-promo drops which would then be broadcasted on Detroit’s 105.9 WJLB. By 2001 Jared became a mainstay on the local Detroit Hip-Hop scene churning out mixtapes regularly by Green Lantern, D-12, and DJ House Shoes. Jared also programmed show sets for Eminem and D-12 and was even tapped by Proof to run his label, Iron Fist alongside Ty Manica, a Detroit-based concert promoter and owner of Merc Records. Later that year Jared was commissioned as a DJ by Motown Records to go on a radio tour for their R&B chanteuse Dina Rae. The tour brought them to LA where Jared met the renowned writer/producer Phillip “Whitey” White and the two immediately realized that their combined talents merited a merger and the two joined forces to create Whiteleaf Productions. The dynamic duo began working instantly at the famed Enterprise Studios as the production deal they landed with Damon Elliot (songwriter/producer for Kelly Rowland, Mya, Jessica Simpson, Beyoncé Knowles, etc.) had them writing/producing tracks for movies such as Shark Tale, 1st Daughter, and Fat Albert. By virtue of his wizardly abilities, Jared Lee Gosselin has produced and/or engineered for India Arie, Macy Gray, Young Jeezy, Keyshia Cole, Nicole Scherzinger (lead singer Pussycat Dolls), Floetry, Cheri Dennis, Choppa, Proof, Obie Trice, and Corrine Bailey Rae to name a few. Jared also contributed to the soundtrack of De Ja Vu starring Denzel Washington and was nominated for a Grammy in 2006 with India Aries’s Testimony: Vol.1, Life & Relationships. Despite his impeccable resume, anyone who knows of Jared Lee Gosselin will attest, what he’s accomplished to date only reflects a small portion of the success he will achieve during his career span but when asked what his goals are the humble yet ambitious, decorated producer/engineer replies “All I want to do is make music that stands the test of time…” Having founded Gosselin Entertainment in 2006, this industrious 25 year old has continued to “work his magic” emerging as one of the most sought after producers in the cut-throat entertainment industry. With up and coming projects from Keyshia Cole, Nicole Scherzinger, and Joell Ortiz, and the MAGICO clothing line Jared Lee Gosselin or as he has come to be known “Magico”-Magic Man continues to work his magic… [edit] Sourceswww.jaredleegosselin.com, www.mihgroup.biz Mihgroupinc 21:26, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
