[edit] A. Rahman Yoba's Biography
…– [edit] Sources75.80.24.147 02:41, 18 June 2007 (UTC)A. Rahman Yoba has been involved in some aspect of the entertainment industry for over two decades. Yoba, the second of six children was born Abdul-Rahman Kwame Yoba in Harlem, New York to Mahmoudah Young Lanier and Erutan Abdullah Yoba. Having witnessed the birth of hip-hop culture in the mid 1970’s, Yoba was the co-owner of a fledging independent hip-hop label, Dum Beat Records, in 1987. When the company folded in 1989, he self financed his second independent hip-hop label, Black-On-Black Recordings where he co-directed and starred in the music video, Ain’t No Panickin’, the company’s first single in 1991. Around the same time he relocated to the Clinton Hill/Fort Greene section of Brooklyn where he reconnected with an old friend, Jon Shoates, who had inspirations to be a film director. Jon promptly asked A. Rahman Yoba to star in his independently financed film, Club Members. Yoba agreed and made his foray into the film industry as an actor in 1992. Though financing fell through and the film was never completed, it gave him his first glimpse into the world of filmmaking. By 1995 Yoba added party promoter to his ever-growing entertainment resume as he created and organized lavish themed events that drew up to 700 people a night under the moniker, “The New York City Players Committee”. In 1996 he was called on again as an actor, when he was handpicked by screenwriter/director Jamal Joseph to co-star in the independent film, Full Court Press. Two months after that film wrapped he landed a feature role in David E. Talbert’s independent film, Love Changes. Though neither film had a major theatrical release (“Full Court Press” was actually re-titled “30 Days” and released on DVD in 2006 and “Love Changes” was re-titled “A Woman Like That”) these experiences coupled with his first foray into film as an actor in 1992, inspired Yoba to become a film director. While producing musical tracks for an off-off Broadway play, Goddess City, in 1997, Yoba penned his first feature-length screenplay, Khaki Blues, with plans on making it his feature film directorial debut. Those plans where put on hold however, when in 1999 Yoba was asked to be the road manager for the legendary R&B group New Editions reunion tour, which was to kick off in Asia. When the tour failed to materialize A. Rahman Yoba found himself, at the urging of his mother, on the road with his brother, Malik Yoba, who was starring in the traveling musical stage production of David E Talbert’s, His Women His Wife in the winter and spring of 2000. All the while Yoba continued to develop his screenwriting skills completing 5 different genre screenplays in a 3-year period, which landed him representation by a reputable Hollywood manager in the fall of the same year. In the summer of 2001 Yoba had his first taste of life as a Hollywood writer when his urban time travel comedy script Backspin made the rounds. Though it did not sell, it did land him meetings with Hollywood producers and executives, relationships he began to nurture. That same summer he co-penned the urban musical stage-play, What’s On The Hearts Of Men, with his brother actor Malik Yoba. The play toured in 2001 and 2002, played in 13 cities, grossed over 3 million dollars at the box-office and was nominated in 5 categories at the 2003 NAACP Hollywood Theater Awards. September 2003 saw A. Rahman Yoba add Literary Manager to his resume when he launched his own literary management- production company, GhettoSuburbia Entertainment. He closed out his first year with a bang when in the fall of 2004, Gary Shusset, the founder of Sherwood Oaks Experimental College who’s graduates include screenwriters Paul Haggis (Crash, Million Dollar Baby), James Cameron (Terminator, Titanic), and Nancy Meyers (What Women Want) invited him to sit on the Literary Mangers Panel during one of the most revered screenwriting seminars in existence, to offer his insight on the film and screenwriting business. Today in 2007, A. Rahman Yoba reps a handful of writers, has a plethora of film, theatre, television projects and novels in the works, including the film version of What’s On The Hearts Of Men, which he adapted for the screen and is set to co-direct with his brother. By the time you read this A. Rahman Yoba’s life would have probably changed again, so stay tuned. |

[edit] Governor Sindh: Dr.Ishratulebadkhan
Governor Sindh: Dr.Ishratulebadkhan Dr.Ishrat-ul-ebad, is the governor of Sindh who has notably changed karachi from dust to one of the top 12 megacity's. His development works are Bagh-e-ibn-Qasim, BeachPark and road works. The two fabulous parks are the largest in Pakistan. The development work of the Clifton beach as a recreational place was started 80 years back by Jehangir Kothari, who constructed the Jehangir Kothari Parade at a cost of Rs0.3 million at the site of his bungalow and presented it to the citizens of Karachi as a gift. It is a matter of record that after so many decades, Governor Sindh, Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, during a visit to the Clifton Beach, in June 2005, directed the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) to prepare proper plan for renovation/rehabilitation and development of important projects at the Clifton Beach, including Jehangir Kothari Parade, Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim and Beach Park. The Bagh-e-Ibne Qasim (old name Jehangir Kothari Park) is located in Clifton, Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. The park is established on February 27, 2007. The park is country's Biggest Park, constructed under Clifton Beach Development Project on 130 acres of land. The old Toyland Theme Park has been done away with and this park replaces it. The park cost PKR 600 million and has been completed in 300 working days. Estimated more than 10 million people visited per year. Prior to the initiation of construction on Bagh-e-Ibne Qasim, 73 acres of land was freed from the grip of land grabbers. The entire Clifton beach, and the area now covered under the park. In June 2005, Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan took it upon himself to restore this major historical entertainment area to its original splendor. City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal also played a part in gifting the Kotahri Parade Park back to the people of Karachi, with the honourable governor-Dr.Ishrat-ul-ebad. Although an important recreational spot, it remained ignored for quite long time and no steps were taken for the development of the Clifton coast and to maintain the available facilities. This beautiful park spread over an area of 47 acres, has been constructed along 3.7km long coastal driveway. [edit] The First Fleet
[edit] Sources59.101.141.91 08:02, 18 June 2007 (UTC) Preparation for the voyage The decision to send convicts to Botany Bay was taken by the British Government on 18 August 1786, with the responsibility to organize and choose officials falling on then Home Secretary, Lord Sydney and his junior, Evan Nepean. Preparations to obtain ships, convicts, guards and provisions began soon after. At the time the five hulks in service held about 1300 men, and selected convicts, including women from county gaols were transferred to the hulk Dunkirk at Plymouth and the New Gaol in Southwark. Optimistically, it was hoped to be able to sail in October, but a series of postponements were made. In mid April 1787 the St James's Chronicle commented that “strange as it may appear, we are credibly informed of the Fact that the Transports for Botany Bay have not as yet sailed". [Gillen, p.xxiv] By October 1786, more than 200 marines had volunteered for Botany Bay duty, and Major Robert Ross was chosen to command them. The man chosen to lead the expedition, command HMS Sirius, and take on the governorship of the colony, was Captain Arthur Phillip, of whom The First Lord of The Admiralty said, “The little I know of [him] would [not] have led me to select him". [Gillen, p.xxiv] The convict ships (two were originally slave ships requisitioned by the Royal Navy) were fitted out with strong hatch bars between decks, bulkheads to divide convicts from crew, and the guns and ammunition. Provisions included food such as flour, peas, rice, butter, salted beef and pork, bread, soup, cheese, water and beer. Coal and wood were provided for fuel. Beads, looking glasses and other gifts for native inhabitants were included. Vast amounts of hardware items were taken — tents (for the settlers to live in until huts had been built), wagons, wheelbarrows, gunpowder, collapsible furniture for the governor, scientific instruments, paper, ropes, crockery, glass panes for the governor's windows, ready-cut wood, cooking equipment (including some complete cast-iron stoves), and a miscellany of weapons. Other items included tools, agricultural implements, seeds, spirits, medical supplies, bandages, surgical instruments, handcuffs, leg irons and chains. A prefabricated house for the governor was constructed and packed flat. 5,000 bricks for construction and thousands of nails were loaded. As the party was venturing into unknown territory, it had to carry all its provisions to survive until it could make use of local materials, assuming suitable supplies existed, and could grow its own food and raise livestock. Convicts were delivered to the transports from the hulks and gaols with no reference to skills, or fitness to contribute to the creation of the new colony. The first arrivals embarked on the transports at Woolwich and Gravesend in early January, and continued throughout the next three months. Gradually the ships made their way to Portsmouth, where the last convicts were loaded on the day the fleet sailed. Eventually the fleet set sails and moved off down the English Channel on 13 May 1787.

[edit] Southpole Clothing
About Southpole
Southpole was founded in 1991 by a former New York retailer, David Khym, who recognized a lack of value in the urban apparel marketplace. He is still the sole owner of the brand. Southpole collections are designed and distributed by Wicked Fashions, Inc. The company produces and markets authentic, competitively priced mid-tier status sportswear and casual clothing for young men and juniors under the Southpole brand name. Additionally, Southpole has entered into licensing agreements for the protection and distribution of headgear, footwear and accessories. Positioning: Southpole is the only major streetwear brand that is positioned to reach a vast reservoir of fashion conscious and price sensitive consumers. The targets are the underdeserved mid-tier consumers, who are not attracted to suburban mainstream brands. Souhtpole is a unique entity that has combined the “buzz” & excitement of status with the price points & volume of mainstream, effectively offering the best of both worlds.

[edit] Gwendoline Riley
Gwendoline Riley is a novelist. She was born in 1979 Her first novel; Cold Water was published by Random House when she was 22 years old. Since then she has published 2 more, Sick Notes, and Joshua Spassky (2007). She won a Betty Trask award for Cold Water, but since then it has been downhill. A book of short stories lies buried in this history. It was a totally inconsequential effort. All interviews with her mention her "pout". The expression on her face when she was born was described as an aggressive curiosity, but on reflection, a pout may have been more accurate. The attitude thus reflected has reached a crescendo in recent years. The critics gave her some breathing space with her "difficult" second "novel", Sick Notes. In every detail this was biographical. It was a collection of bitter memories, and offences against her, by her close family. An old boyfriend is also given very rough treatment. Its most central themes were vicious personal attacks by Gwendoline, on close family members and the old boyfriend. Not one single character in this rant is given any kind of positive image, not even a hint of one. The onset of paranoia was clear. Joshua Spassky continues were Sick Notes finished. The first half is essentially a very childish rant against her mother, father, and one set of grandparents. All are seen as responsible for her extreme insecurity. Her total inability to see anything positive suggests the world she lives in as a terrifying place. The book seems to finish on a positive note, which may give some hope for the future, but the fear is that the paranoia is now firmly established. An excuse often offered by her is that she is an artiste and this is how artistes behave. I hope she grows up, but at 27 years old, it is probably too late. [edit] Joseph Acton
Joseph Acton (1852-June 26, 1917 [1]), known by his ringname "Little Joe" or "Limey Joe", was a British professional wrestler and world champion who competed in England and America during the late 19th century. Acton is one of a handful of wrestlers credited with introducing "catch-as-catch-can" wrestling (also known today as free-style), with its roots in old Lancashire wrestling, to the United States. Wrestling under the name Joe Acton, and nicknamed "The Little Demon," Acton was considered one of the top wrestlers of his era. Acton began wrestling in his native Great Britain during the 1870s defeating Tom Cannon to become the first World Catch-as-Catch-Can Heavyweight Champion on December 12, 1881. He toured the United States that same year facing several prominent wrestlers including Edwin Bibby, [2] Arkansas Heavyweight Champion Clarence Whistler, [3] and Matsada Sorakichi [4] as well as several rematches against Tom Cannon and was widely regarded as the best wrestler in America by 1887, although he lost the American "catch-as-catch-can" championship bout to Evan “Strangler” Lewis on March 14, 1887 in one of the biggest matches of the decade. [5] He would also face Australia bare knuckle boxer William Miller in a series of wrestling matches in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania between March and July 1888 [6] as well as Bob Fitzsimmons in 1891. [7] [8] Although retiring sometime during the turn of the century, he did agree to several exhibition matches while a student instructor at Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon. [9] In one of his final matches, at age 59, Action faced Tokugoro Ito in a jacketed wrestling match at the Grand Opera House in Seattle, Washington on May 11, 1911. Although he had previous experience in jujitsu-style fighting having faced British judoka Yukio Tanai in 1904, he lost to Ito in two bouts, in three and two minutes respectively. [edit] Elizabeth Tapia
Elizabeth’s unique experience and situation influenced her to focus in feminist theology and women liberation. From 1972-1981, the Philippines was under martial law where any form of social activism was banned. Elizabeth was one of these women. She struggled with them. Her ministry had more vitality as she walked with other women in defining Asian Feminist Theology. She contributed by “convening Protestant and Roman Catholic women in mid seventies, followed by series of seminars, exposures, theological reflections, [then] the Association of Women in Theology (AWIT) was born.” The year was 1980 and Filipina Christians were still in the stage of finding their place in the church. By creating a venue for women to talk and reflect how God work in their lives amidst their struggles, Elizabeth helped shape feminist theology. Elizabeth did not only focused her effort in introducing feminist theology in the Philippines. Early in her career, her efforts and dedicated work for women empowerment and introducing feminist theology were recognized internationally. She was called to do greater task that would sustain her energy as feminist theologian. In 1980, the Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) opened a women’s desk to address the Christian Asian women’s situation and asked the young Elizabeth Tapia to take the lead. Elizabeth continued to be active in the international scene trying her best to expand more the role of women in the church and in the society. She had been asked to be the guest speaker in international conferences and symposiums. She brought to each conference she attended the Feminist Theology that has so much defined her. This was exemplified in the challenge she gave in 1999 to the delegates of the Global Consultation on Evangelism in Atlanta – to consider the context of the people’s faith they were evangelizing. Many Filipino United Methodists recognized Dr. Tapia’s discipleship and leadership and they believed she could also lead the Church. In 2000, she was nominated for the church episcopacy to be the first woman bishop in the Philippines. The Philippine church indeed was not prepared for a lady Bishop. In 2002, she was called to be the first Asian woman resident faculty at the Bossey Ecumenical Institute of the World Council of Churches. She recently accepted a new position as Director of the Drew Center for Christianities in Global Context at Drew University in New Jersey, USA. [edit] SourcesThompson, Patricia J. [edit] Alessandro Corbelli
Alessandro Corbelli is an Italian opera singer. One of the prominent bass-baritones specializing in Mozart and Rossini, Corbelli has sung in many major opera houses around the world and won admiration for his fine, patrician singing style and his sharp characterizations. Corbelli was born in Turin in 1952 and studied with Giuseppe Valdengo and Claude Thiolas. He made his debut in 1973 (at the age twenty-one) in the northern Italian city of Aosta as Monterone in Rigoletto. He subsequently appeared at La Scala in all three of the Mozart/Da Ponte operas under conductor Riccardo Muti, and also in such European cities as Turin, Verona, Bologna, Florence, Naples, as well as major opera houses in Switzerland, France, Austria, Germany, England, Spain, Israel, and North and South America. He has sung and/or recorded such buffo roles as Dr. Bartolo in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, Taddeo in Rossini’s L'italiana in Algeri, Don Geronio in Rossini's Il turco in Italia, Dr. Dulcamara in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, and the title role of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale. He has frequently showed his versatility in singing two roles in the same opera (though not in the same performance, of course): Dandini and Don Magnifico in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Figaro and the Count in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Leporello and the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, and Guglielmo and Don Alfonso in Mozart’s Così fan Tutte. Perhaps the role for which Corbelli is best known is that of Dandini, the valet masquerading as a prince in Rossini’s La Cenerentola. He recorded this role on the Decca label with conductor Bruno Campanella in a cast that included Cecilia Bartoli; this production later traveled to the Houston Grand Opera and was televised in 1995. Dandini was also the role in which Corbelli debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in 1997, in a performance that was also televised. Recently he appeared in the Met production of Il Trittico (Puccini’s “triptych” of one-act operas) playing the title role in Gianni Schicchi; the performance was one of six of that Met season transmitted to movie theaters around the world in 2007. Although primarily associated with Italian-language comic roles (in particular, Mozart and the bel canto repertoire), Corbelli’s resume of roles shows his wide-ranging interests and versatility, including French and German roles (the Marquis in Poulenc’s Dialogues de Carmelites, Papageno in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte), baroque opera (Ottone in Monteverdi’s Orfeo) and a twentieth-century opera (Nick Shadow in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress). He has also sung comic roles in later Italian operas, for example the title roles in Verdi’s Falstaff and Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. Corbelli’s voice started out as a baritone but in recent years has deepened to a rich bass-baritone. His voice is not large, but the dark coloring of his voice gives it power and heft. He possesses a tight vibrato and great flexibility in coloratura and patter. His diction is always razor-sharp and he points up the text brilliantly, particularly in recitatives. His stage presence is commanding (despite his short stature) and he excels in comic timing and subtle characterization. [edit] Lost Souls In Endless Time
Lost Souls in Endless Time is the Japanese bonus track of DragonForce's 3rd album Inhuman Rampage. It was also a track on the re-released version of the same album. It contains a lot more keyboarding than the other songs, including a high-speed solo after the second chorus, and ZP's voice also sounds like it has been modified slightly, sounding slightly metallic, Fred's background singing can easily be heard in places. It ends with a swelling piano riff which is then crushed with guitar steel, adding a suitable full stop to the album. {{tl:rock-song-stub}} |

[edit] Peter Manor
Peter Manor (1778 - 1847) was probably most well known as the founder of the town of Providence, Ohio. Manor was of French decent and initially made a living travelling and trading with Native Americans primarily in northwest Ohio starting in the late 1700's. Manor was considered by the Native Americans to be a friend, resulting in good relationship. He continued to trade with Native Americans and even opened up a trading post until approximately the early 1800's, when the US government ordered the removal of Native tribes from this part of the nation, which was completed in approximately 1839 (Rozick, 10-11). In 1822, Manor constructed a sawmill and gristmill in what is now the ghost town of Providence, OH (Rozick, 12). Manor's decision to begin construction was based on two reasons. First, with the Native American removal, his trading business was begining to slow. More importantly, though, with the conclusion of the War of 1812, in which the Natives fought, the area of Northwest Ohio had become more secure and subsequently, was beginning to become settled. In 1835, began developing the town of Providence. Things did not slow for Manor, though. The state of Ohio decided that it would construct what, at the time, was to be the Wabash and Erie Canal through the town of Providence. Later, this section would be referred to as being a part of the Miami and Erie Canal. Specifically, the state decided that the canal should run right through the location of Manor's Mill. Consequently, in 1838, the state of Ohio took possession of and subsequently demolished Manor's Mill through eminent domain for the purpose of constructing the canal (Rozick, 12). Manor rebuilt the mill and, as a result of a deal made with Ohio, was able to obtain perpetual water rights (Emmons). Eventually, Manor would sell the mill, but continued as a pillar of the community of Providence, which was seen as a haven from the problems of drinking, gambling, and prostitution which typically plagued canal towns, until his death in September of 1847 (Rozick, 13). [edit] Joshua Nadeau
The term "Joshua Nadeau" only applies to the fittest and strongest of men. It is often used to describe valliance and loyalty. Its first uses date back to the stone age, among the cavemen of the Sun Tribe. Among the Sun Tribe, the tribe of warriors, there was an exceptionally strong beast named JOSHUA NADEAU. The term was used to describe future warriors, and now is used for the same reason, to describe people of unrivaled bravery. |

[edit] Overdose (Band)
Overdose was a heavy metal band formed in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in the early 80's by Baza and Claudio David. By 1985 a stable lineup had materialized and the band, ready to record, attracted the interest of the brand new Cogumelo record label. Overdose didn't have enough songs for a full-length album and decided to release a split LP with another young Brazilian band by the name of Sepultura. The resulting Seculo XX/Bestial Devastation LP linked the two bands forever after. Overdose has done reasonably well in their home country but not as well outside of it, as much of their material was only released in Brazil. One album that did get an international release is 1992's Circus Of Death. The style here is thrash, less the deathy style of Sepultura at the time, but a more midpaced power thrash, with Baza's hoarse vocals verging on hardcore. After the release of their last album (Scars, in 1995) the band carried on amidst some lineup changes, (including, ironically, the addition of founding Sepultura guitarist Jairo Guedz). Overdose disbanded in 1997.
