[edit] The Bank (Casino)
The Bank seems to be constructed of a complicated ladder work of steel and glass. The interior of the hotel consists of slightly Asian themed furnishings, and a massive casino at the base. There are three sections of the hotel, containing a vast number of rooms, including the [villas], which are massive, multi-story suites for high-paying guests. At the top of the hotel's three sections is a small platform with a helipad on top. Inside of this platform is a viewing room that houses a collection of Willy Bank's Five Diamond Awards, which are stunning diamond necklaces given for very high ratings in many of Willy Bank's hotels. [edit] GROWS Lanfill
GROWS Landfill, and the adjacent sister landfill "Tullytown Lanfill," both in Falls Township, Bucks County, PA combined are the largest landfills in the United States, and contribute $16 Million annually to the local tax base, much of which is for the benefit of the Pennsbury School District. The facilities cover 593 acres, and are 240 feet high (as high as a 26-story building), with 175 acres still to be used, receiving 26,500 tons of garbage per day. Following the 2001 closure of Fresh Kills landfill 40-miles away in [[Staten Island, NY], the landfills are now the largest repository of waste from New York City. [edit] gardcorp or gardcorps
One of the most basic over-robes of the Medieval period was the cyclas, which began as a rectangular piece of cloth with a hole in the middle for the head. Over time the sides came to be sewn together to make a long overtunic. Long, wide sleeves were gathered and attached to the top of the armhole of the cyclas to form the gardcorp. This was a protective garment, used widely by both sexes, especially for travel. The sleeves would've looked rather like those on a modern academic robe. [edit] 1200-1300 in Fashion
Costume for both men and women in Europe during the thirteenth century was very simple, and quite uniform over the continent. Men wore a tunic or cotte with a surcoat. One of these surcoats was the cyclas, which began as a rectangular piece of cloth with a hole in it for the head. Over time the sides were sewn together to make a long, sleeveless tunic. When sleeves and sometimes hood were added, the cyclas became a ganache (a cap-sleeved surcoat, usually shown with hood of matching color) or a gardcorp (a long, generous-sleeved traveling robe, somewhat resembling a modern academic robe). A mantle was worn as a formal wrap. Men also wore hose, shoes, and headdress. The clothing of royalty was set apart by its rich fabric and luxurious furs. Hair and beard were moderate in length, and men generally wore their hair in a "pageboy" style, curling under at necklength. Shoes were slightly pointed, and embroidered for royalty and higher clergy. Working men wore a short cotte, or tunic, with a belt. It was slit up the center of the front so that they could tuck the corners into their belt to create more freedom of movement. They wore long underpants with legs of varying length, which must have been considered perfectly modest, as they were often visible as they worked (as seen in period art). Hose could be worn over this, attached to the crawstring or belt at the waist. Hats included a round cap with a slight brim, the beret (just like modern French ones, complete with a little tab at the top), the coif (a little tight white hood with strings that tied under the chin), the straw hat (doubtless in widespread use among farmers), and the hood. Dress for women was restrained. a floorlenghth, loosely-fitted gown, with long, tight sleeves and and a narrow belt, was uniform. Over this was worn the cyclas (the sleeveless surcoat worn also by men). Richer women wore more embroidery, and their mantles, held in place by a cord across the chest, might be lined with fur. Individuality in women's costume was expressed through their hair and headdress. One distinctive part of thirteenth-century women's headwear was the barbette, a chin band to which a hat or various other headdress might be attached. This hats might be a "woman's coif", which more nearly resembled a pillbox hat, severely plain or fluted. The hair was often confined by a net called a crespine or crespinette, visible only at the back. Later in the century the barbette and coif were reduced to narrow strips of cloth, and the entire hairdress might be covered with the crespine, the hair fashionable bulky over the ears. Coif and barbette were white, while the crespine might be colored or gold. The wimple and veil of the twelfth century (still seen on nuns today) was still worn, mainly by older women and widows. Women also wore hose and leather shoes, like men. [edit] SourcesHistory of Costume: From the Ancient Egyptians to the Twentieth Century by Blanche Payne 138.210.189.11 18:54, 10 June 2007 (UTC) |

[edit] cyclas
The cyclas and its derivatives make up a large part of thirteenth- and fourteenth-century European outer clothing for both men and women. It was originally a rectangular panel of cloth with a hole in the middle for the head, adopted by twelfth-century Crusaders to protect armor from rain and dust and one's eyes from the glare of the metal, as well as to insulate somewhat against the heat. It hung to about the knees,k and was directly related to the tabard, the official garment of heralds, which is still seen in royal ceremonies. Over time, it was adopted by all classes and both sexes. It became closed under the arms, the sides sewn together to create an overrobe. Sleeves and hoods could be added to create a number of overcoats such as the ganache (or garnache) or gardcorp (gardcorps), and women of the thirteenth century generally wore a full-length cyclas over the gown. In the fourteenth century, the cyclas became a "sideless gown", worn over the cotehardie: it was sewn together from hip to hem, but from shoulder to hip the edges were free, sometimes cut in concave curves. (For an example, in Peter Jackson's The Two Towers--in the scene "Daughter of Kings", in which she shows Aragorn that she has some skill with a sword--Eowyn wears a sideless gown, laced loosely from armpit to hip.) Over time the arm openings became much deeper and narrower at the top, often left with only a narrow central strip above the skirt. [edit] Andy Gotts
Andy Gotts is a celebrity photographer from London, Engand. He is most noted for his black and white portraits of Holloywood actors. Gotts is noted for his magnum opus 'Degrees'. This was a coffee table book inspired by the game, the 'Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon'. He wrote to 300 actors asking to take their pictures, and received permission from one, Joss Ackland. Ackland then suggested that Gotts photograph Greta Scacchi, with whom he had appeared in the film White Mischief. Gotts proceeded from there, asking each actor to refer him to one or more friends or colleagues. Each actor Gotts photographed then suggested a best friend, or someone they really admired, as the next person. This gives a wonderful chain of 'who knows who'. Dustin Hoffman suggested Brad Pitt, Brad suggested George Clooney, George suggested Julia Roberts, Julia suggested Susan Sarandon, Susan suggested Paul Newman, Paul suggested...etc. Two weeks before he died Sir Alan Bates wrote a text for Andy Gotts - it was his last penned work - and is included as a foreword. Sir Alan had suggested Pierce Brosnan as his 'connection', and Pierce has written a tribute to him. As an afterword, Kevin Bacon himself plays the 'six degrees' game, linking himself back to Sir Alan Bates, by just using the actors photographed for the book. Gotts was also awarded a Master of Arts from De Montfort University, Leicester, UK.
