The Sydney Jones Library was opened in 1976 and is the main Library for arts, humanities, environmental studies, and Latin American studies.

An expansion of the library is currently underway with completion due for Summer 2008

The UQ Whitlam Society was formed in January 2007. The club is an affiliate of the University of Queensland Student Union (http://www.uqunion.uq.edu.au/). The aims and objectives of the club are to promote four key pillars; socialism, unionism, feminism and democracy.

Tokarta is a virtual art gallery. It allows artists to display and sell their art work online. It was set up be a small group of artists to look after the needs of - and fairly represent - artists online. Unlike conventional galleries, Tokarta does not charge commission on art works sold, but rather charges artists a rental fee for their space. Each time a work is sold on Tokarta, the money goes directly to the artist. Artists are encouraged to set a fair price for their works. They can also choose to sell their works in a selection of currencies. Their art is actively marketed by Tokarta on the artists behalf.

Tokarta was launched in February 2007 by Girts Gailans and Jan Bickerton and is based in Devon, England.

Military unit established in the UK in 1982, linked to the Territorial Army (TA) and recruited from volunteers aged 18–60 with previous army (TA or regular) experience. Phoenix Fires is a published book about terrorism and a terrorist organisation called Phoenix and its affect on the world as the organisation goes on a made rampage to take over the world by using any means at their disposal. Phoenix Fires was published and sold by directly to the American public although the book had a good reviews it was never a success as it never sold any copies anywhere in the world and now has been removed for many book stores.

Phoenix Fires is now considered a controversial book as it showed the affects of terrorism in a new light although the book was released a day after 9/11 nobody ever bought a copy. Phoenix Fires was written by a young slightly controversial author by the name of Tamojen Morgan, who is rumoured to be working on his next book although no title and information has been given out to the public.

Naguib Boutros Boutros-Ghali is the son of the former/former Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali. Boutros Boutros-Ghali CC (Arabic: بطرس بطرس غالي) (born November 14, 1922) is an Egyptian diplomat who was the sixth Secretary-General of the United Nations from January 1992 to December 1996. His son currently resides in Cairo, Egypt, in the school CAC of Egypt (established 1945).

Academic career

Boutros Boutros-Ghali was born in Cairo into a Coptic Christian family (Boutros being the Arabized form of Petros, the Coptic form of the name Peter) that had already provided Egypt with a prime minister (Boutros Ghali, 1846 – 1910). He graduated from Cairo University in 1946 and earned a Ph.D. in international law from the University of Paris as well as a diploma in international relations from the Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris (best known as simply Sciences Po) in 1949. The same year, he was appointed Professor of International Law and International Relations at Cairo University, a position which he held until 1977. He became President of the Centre of Political and Strategic Studies in 1975 and President of the African Society of Political Studies in 1980. He was a Fulbright Research Scholar at Columbia University from 1954 to 1955, Director of the Centre of Research of the Hague Academy of International Law from 1963 to 1964, and Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Law at Paris University from 1967 to 1968.

Egyptian political career

He had long been closely associated with the ruling clique in Egypt. His political career took off during the days of former president Anwar El-Sadat. He was a member of the Central Committee of the Arab Socialist Union (1974-77). He had served as Egypt's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs from 1977 until early 1991. He then became Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs for several months before moving to the UN. As Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, he played a part in the peace agreements between Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin.[1]

UN Career

Elected to the top post of the UN in 1992, Boutros-Ghali's term in office remains controversial. He was criticised for the UN's failure to act during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, which officially left about 937,000 people dead, and he appeared unable to muster support in the UN for intervention in the continuing Angolan Civil War. One of the hardest periods for his office during his term was dealing with the crisis of the Yugoslav wars after the disintegration of former Yugoslavia. His reputation thus became entangled in the larger controversies over the effectiveness of the UN and the role of the United States in the UN. For his detractors, he came to symbolise the UN's alleged inaction in the face of humanitarian crises.

Second term

In 1996, ten Security Council members, led by African members Egypt, Guinea-Bissau and Botswana, sponsored a resolution backing Boutros-Ghali for a second five-year term, until the year 2001. However, the United States vetoed a second term for Boutros-Ghali. In addition to the United States, the United Kingdom, Poland, South Korea, and Italy did not sponsor this resolution, although all four of those nations voted in support of Boutros-Ghali after the US had firmly declared its intention to veto. Although not the first vetoed (China vetoed the third term of Kurt Waldheim in 1981), Boutros-Ghali was the first and only UN secretary-general not to be elected to a second term in office. He was succeeded at the UN by Kofi Annan.

From 1997 to 2002 Boutros-Ghali was Secretary-General of La Francophonie, an organisation of French-speaking nations. From 2003 to 2006, he served as the Chairman of the Board of the South Centre, [2] an intergovernmental research organisation of developing countries. He is currently President of the Curatorium Administrative Council at the Hague Academy of International Law.

In an interview on Egyptian television in September 2004, Boutros-Ghali called the United States a "totalitarian regime" in its dealings with the rest of the world, according to a translation provided by the Middle East Media Research Institute. [3]

Cultural references

Boutros-Ghali's distinctive double name has been used for comedic effect in several television programs. In the UK Comedy series Believe Nothing, the host of a game show is called Boutros-Boutros Ghali (prompting Rik Mayall to ask "Can I call you Boutros-Boutros, Boutros-Boutros?") In 2002, Boutros-Ghali appeared in a segment of Da Ali G Show episode "War". Ali G introduced his guest as "Boutros Boutros Boutros-Ghali" and wrapped up the interview by thanking "Boutros Boutros Boutros Boutros-Ghali" for his participation. Along similar lines, in the early 1990s an episode of the CBC political satire TV show Royal Canadian Air Farce featured an exchange between two characters where, by adding/revealing words to each other one at a time, the conversation ultimately led to the phrase "Boutros Boutros-Ghali's really bally Sally Rally/Gala". The phrase "Boutros Boutros-Ghali" was used as part of a mock parody of the Spanish language in a recurring sketch on the British TV comedy show The Fast Show. "Boutros Boutros-Ghali" appears to have meant "goodbye".

In an episode of Seinfeld titled "The Hamptons", when Jerry and Kramer see George's girlfriend topless, Kramer says "Yo-Yo Ma" to which Jerry responds "Boutros Boutros-Golly!" Boutros-Ghali was a regular feature in the Top 10 list feature on CBS's Late Show with David Letterman. In 1997 a list entitled "Top Ten Ways Celebrities Can Raise 33.5 Million Dollars" included the suggestion that Boutros Boutros-Ghali could "Auction off a 'Boutros'". A May 6 1994 Top Ten List entitled "Top Ten Boutros Boutros-Ghali Pick-up Lines" included the entries "Can I can I buy you a drink a drink?", and "It must be fate - you don't have any boutroses, and I've got one to spare!". He was also referred to as "Boutros Boutros-Ghali: the man so nice they named him twice". In the sitcom Family Matters, the character Myra Monkhouse gives her full name as "Myra Boutros-Boutros Monkhouse". Boutros-Ghali was called "one of the most important people in the world" second only to "Flibber Flabber Flinger Boo-Boo" in a strip for Get Fuzzy, written by Darby Conley. The Animaniacs song "U.N. Me" played on Ghali's name in a different way: "Boutrous Boutrous Ghali-gee/Down by the East Riverside/Leads the General Assembly" In the panel quiz Q.I., Stephen Fry informs us the literal translation of Boutros Boutros-Ghali is "Peter Peter- Expensive".

There is an Icelandic non-league soccer team that honoured the former Secretary-General by naming the team after him.[4]

Metal Hearts is an indie band from Baltimore, MD comprised of Anar Badalov and Flora Wolpert Checknoff. Their debut record, Socialize, was released to great acclaim on Suicide Squeeze Records in February of 2006. The record eventually climbed to 17 on CMJ (the College Music Charts).

Zvi Arad was born April 1942 in Petach Tikva, Israel, where he still lives today with his wife, Rivka. His children and grandchildren also live in Petach Tikva, as did his late parents.

Subsequent to the completion of his high school education he began his academic studies in the Mathematics Department of Bar Ilan University (Israel). He received his first degree in 1964 and after army service went on to complete a second and third degree in the Mathematics Department of Tel Aviv University. In 1968 he joined the academic staff at Bar Ilan University as an assistant and in 1983 was appointed a Full professor. During the years 1978/9 he held the position of Visiting Scientist at Chicago University, and from 1982-1983, held the position of visiting Professor at Toronto University.

Professor Arad has held a variety of senior academic posts; including at Bar Ilan University as Head of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Rector, and President of the University. Together with Professor Bernard Pinchuk he founded and established "Gelbart Institute" a prestigious international research institute and the "Emmy Noether Institute" (Minerva Center). Together with colleagues he established the Mathematic journal – Israel Mathematics Conference Proceedings, distributed by the (AMS) American Mathematical Society. From 1984-1985 he served as a member of the Council for Higher Education of the State of Israel. In 1996 together with his colleagues, Professor Deutch and Professor Pinchuk, he initiated and founded Netanya Academic College of which he serves as President. In 1982 he was elected a member of Russia's Academy of Natural Sciences.

Since 1994 he has served on the editorial board of the Algebra Colloquium, a journal of the Chinese Academy published by Springer Verlag. He also serves on the editorial board of various international publications: South East Asian Bulletin of Mathematics of the Asian Mathematical Society, the IMCP of Contemporary Mathematics published by the American Mathematical Society, and the publication Cubo Matematica Educacional, Temuco – Chile.

Zvi Arad has participated in many academic projects, and has also specialized in projects concerning the advancement of higher education in Israel. He has initiated numerous agreements of cooperation with various universities and institutions throughout the world including academic institutes in the former USSR, Universities and research centers in America, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Russia, China, South Africa etc. He was a member of Israel's first offical delegation to the former USSR, under the leadership of President Ezer Weizman. In an official address, President Mikhail Gorbachev mentioned Professor Arad's contributions towards the establishment of scientific communications between Israel and the former USSR. In an effort to advance cooperation in research he has headed delegations of Scientists to Russia, China and East Germany.

In the Haaretz newspaper (21/1/98) he was described as one of the pioneers in the reform of higher education in Israel. The Hebrew Encyclopedia lists Zvi Arad as "fulfilling a key role in the development and advancement of Bar Ilan University and in the establishment of the University's regional colleges in Sefad, Ashkelon and Emek Hayarden (the Jordan Valley). For this achievement he was awarded a certificate of honor by the Mayor of each city. The establishment of these colleges began in 1985 and went on to affect the whole of Israel. These colleges advanced the Galilee and Southern Israel and brought higher education to the peripheries of the State of Israel.

In 1993, at the request of the Mayors of the city of Netanya, Yoel Elroi and Zvi Poleg, Professor Arad established the Netanya Academic College. A partner in the initiation and establishment of the college was Mrs Miriam Fireberg, who at that time served as head of the Education Department of the City of Netanya. Today the college is an accredited institute of higher education and is authorized to grant first and second academic degrees in a variety of fields. The college has some 3,400 students and intends to absorb 15,000 in the future.

Professor Arad, together with his colleague Professor Marcel Herzog, wrote the book Products of Conjugacy Classes, published by Springer Verlag. The book facilitated the basis of the establishment of mathematical theory and today forms part of the Modern Algebra branch known as Table Algebras, and is attached to central branches in mathematics: Graph theory, Algebra combinations and theory presentation. Professor Arad is counted amongst the leaders in this field. Recently, Professor Arad has complied two further books with colleagues on the subject of table algebra. In 2000 his book was published in the series American Mathematical Society Memoirs and in January 2002 another book on table algebras was published in the international publication, Springer. In 2006 Professor Arad was the editor of Contemporary Mathematics, Volume 402. Professor Arad has had some 90 articles published in various prestigious international articles.

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Pollard attended and graduated from Kentucky Country Day School and Georgetown University. He spent three years working for New York's McCann-Erickson advertising before moving to Los Angeles to attend USC Film School.

After graduation from USC, Pollard created Lunacy Unlimited, a production company that created a number of award-winning commercials and documentaries before eventually shifting its focus to features.

Pollard made his feature film debut in 2000, producing, writing and directing Nice Guys Sleep Alone, starring Sean O'Bryan and Vanessa Marcil. A romantic comedy about the dating scene in Louisville, Kentucky, the independent production was broadcast in over a dozen countries and carried on cable television’s HBO. The film enjoyed tremendous popularity at Hollywood Video and Netflix.com, garnering press coverage from USA Today, Time, and Variety.

In 2005, Pollard delivered his second feature film, producing, writing, and directing Keep Your Distance, starring Gil Bellows (The Shawshank Redemption, Ally McBeal) and Jennifer Westfeldt (Kissing Jessica Stein). The thriller depicts a seemingly perfect marriage which slowly dissolves at the foot of betrayal.

In 2006, Pollard received Associate Producer credit for Ira and Abby, starring Chris Messina (Six Feet Under), Jennifer Westfeldt, Frances Conroy (Six Feet Under), Judith Light (Who's the Boss), Robert Klein, Fred Willard (Best in Show), and Jason Alexander (Seinfeld).

F.A.M. - IllyRap, Da Racketeer and Smoke (Wednesday, 16 May 2007) - Contributed by Administrator Jarel Worthington a.k.a. IllyRap is the owner of Illy Rap Recordings and a rapper in the F.A.M. crew. He is a songwriter and producer and made his radio debut with Stay Humble on 96.1 Kiss FM and has appeared on 88.7FM, The Edge. IllyRap has had his performance televised for Hot97's Spit Fire Live at Pseudo Stage Music and appears on numerous DJ Big Mike mixtapes. IllyRap has been recognised by New York City's number one radio station

for Hip Hop and R&B: Hot 97 and crowned their online Spit Fire contest winner. Da Racketeer is the second of the three artists that make up F.A.M. He too is a songwriter / producer and his music has also appeared on numerous DJ Big Mike mixtapes. Rackee has been jokingly called "Chorus King" for ghost writing hooks that have been on worldwide distributed CD releases. The man behind the scene, Da Racketeer is always hands on with arranging songs for any artist he works with. He is responsible for a lot of the F.A.M.'s nationwide networking and Street Team. Smoke is the final member of the F.A.M. crew. Again he is a songwriter / producer whose music appears on numerous DJ Big Mike mixtapes. Courtesy of the top-selling mixtape DJ's in the world, Smoke is establishing himself as a major player in the Rap game. All three artists are currently recording and potentially assimilating with a variety of other well known major artists. Formed in 1980 and known until the late 1990's as Robert Peck von Hartel Trethowan, peckvonhartel is one of Australia's premier design practices.

Award winning projects completed by the practice include office buildings at 1 and 333 Collins Street Melbourne, the Australian National Museum (completed under an Alliance Contract as the Australian Canberra Federation Celebration), the first Australian five star environmental office fit-out for Land Victoria

The Principals of peckvonhartel are Robert Peck AM, Yvonne von Hartel, Marten Peck and Rachel Peck. In June 1997, Robert was awarded an Order of Australia for ‘services to the Practice of Architecture, Urban Design and Development particularly through statutory and regulatory authorities’. Robert is a Life Fellow of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects.

The McMorran family is the worlds most spread out and multicultured family in history. It has over 500,000 members and has members in most countries. Although it is not famous for this it is true. The McMorran family also has many buildings made in respect of the McMorran family such as "McMorran Place sports and recreation center" in Port Huron, Michigan, U.S.A and "The McMorran beach house" in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
