[edit] Friends of the Stars
No sooner were the audience swooning at a beautifully delivered couplet replete with rich metaphors for lost love before, suddenly, a badger was gored on stage and blood daubed on the front three unsuspecting rows. Rumour has it that the art collective have also been involved in plots to kidnap Leslie Crowther, Lena Zavaroni and Noam Chomsky - the purpose for which is not clear at this time. Local Birmingham folklore has it that FOTS Kingpin Craig Hamilton washed up in Liverpool docks in a little wicker basket, wrapped in swaddling clothes (and stinking badly of shit) in the late 1950s. It is thought he was raised by Scousers and was schooled in thievery and alcoholism by John Parrot's biological mother. The mischievous art pixie Anna Russell is thought to have landed in Britain as an advanced scout prior to an alien invasion of Earth. However, she was immediately introduced to drugs and scrumpy by local youths and quickly turned her intercom device off... saving the Earth from total obliteration... not that she had a clue what was going on... or has since. Brooding Goth Guitar Overlord Campbell, it is suggested, is actually a chartered accountant from Penge. They released one album... fifteen years after the recording session was completed. It is now thought to contain secret messages predicting Black Tuesday, the disappearance of Shergar, the death of John Inman and the results of X-Factor series' 1 to 8 plus 15 and, although experts disagree, 34. They are also implicated in 15 unsolved murders in which bodies mutilated with what detectives describe as "gusto" are a recurring "motif". [edit] Friday's Hero (Band)
[edit] History of Friday's HeroFriday's Hero began in 2004, when Brandon and Tyler were in 5th grade. There was also members Rob White, who played guitar, and Kris Kentera, who played bass. The name of the band was then Counterstrike. The band fell apart during the summer between 5th and 6th grade when Kris and Rob both left the band. The band didn't do much of anything during 6th grade, but in 7th grade Brandon met bassist Daven Kirkham, and he joined the band. Guitarist Sam Norton said he would be in the band, but he never officially was in the band because he never practiced with them. In 8th grade Daven was fired because he could never come over and practice. Also, the name of the band became Friday's Hero because the members thought it sounded cool. Kyle Nachbar was added as bassist but was soon fired because, no offense, he wasn't good at all. Daven was reinstated into the band. Jake Henke was soon added as the band's vocalist, and Dan Argo was added as the rhythm guitarist. In April of 2007, Dan Argo was no longer needed to play rhythm guitar and was promoted to lead singer. [edit] SourcesDan argo 01:45, 5 May 2007 (UTC) |

[edit] Waiting for November
Waiting for November is the name of an alternative punk-rock band formed in 2001 in Butler, Pennsylvania by Brett Wigton and Mike Baptiste. How and when the band was formed remains a mystery. Brett had met Mike through a mutual friend, and upon learning of Mike's bass interest, Brett had invited him over for a practice session. Mike had been playing for less than 2 weeks the first time they practiced, but it was during their first session Brett knew no other bassists would suffice. Not long after, the two began playing regularly twice a week. Originally the band consisted of Brett and Mike, but the need for percussion was imminent. After a long period of interviews and experiences with drummers of all sorts, the band turned to Tom Wigton, cousin of Brett Wigton in hopes he would fulfill their requirements. And indeed he did. Brett has described Tom's ability as "Incredible...I've played with a lot of people, but never was there a connection even close to that of Tom W, he just knows the note I'm about to play before I play it, and everything is crystal after that." While the band's first scheduled performance was canceled due to unknown circumstances, Waiting for November has gained a rather large following and become famous for "never playing shows" Records indicate the band has canceled approximately 12 concert performances during the years 2002 and 2003. Reasons for cancellation have yet to be determined and seem to be shrouded by the same cloud of mystique that has encompassed the band as a whole. [edit] Origin of NameTo the members, the name itself is a cornerstone and constitutes their reason for existence. The name was originally coined at Duquesne Universityby Mike Baptiste and Brett Wigton while in a recording studio. The studio chair had asked the band to come in during the first week of November, 2002, to record their first album. Thus, "Waiting for November" was quite literal. [edit] Band MembersBrett Wigton - Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar Mike Baptiste - Bass Tom Wigton - Drums [edit] Quotes"I've never heard anyone adapt and create like Mike, he's the best bass player I've seen in my life - to this day." - Brett "Somewhere out there a friend of a friend's brother's sister is listening to Waiting for November." "We went to a guitar center in Wexford, Brett had asked the store owner if they had a fretless guitar - The owner said no and didn't give him the time of day. Brett picked up an [www.ernieball.com Ernie Ball] and started whaling. The instructor in the glass booth stopped teaching and had his students come out and watch. After that the owner catered to whatever request Brett had...even size 8 strings." - Ira "You gotta hear the note in your head before you play it. If you can't, it's not gonna work." - Brett [edit] SourcesMembers of the Death Metal band Supermodel have said "Waiting for November is the greatest band that has never played." While other rock groups such as About A Mile have stated "You've probably heard of this band Waiting for November, but you probably haven't heard them..." Waiting for November does not have a website, but it is rumored the band will perform an invitation only set in Pittsburgh, November 17th 2007. Whereabouts of the band members are currently unknown. [edit] Softwood and hardwood
Softwood is the wood from conifers. In addition "softwood" is an adjective applied to the trees that produce such wood: softwood trees include pine, spruce, cedar, fir, larch, douglas-fir, hemlock, cypress, redwood and yew. As the name suggests, the wood of softwoods is softer, on average, than that of hardwoods, but only on average - the wood of yews, for example, is much harder than many hardwoods, as is the wood of Longleaf pine, while Balsa wood (technically a hardwood) is extremely soft. Softwood and hardwood differ in microscopic structure. The structure of softwood is fairly uniform, with only two types of cells: tracheids and parenchyma cells. Softwood never has vessel elements for water transport, but relies on tracheids. In general softwood is easy to work: it forms the bulk of wood used by man. Softwood has a huge range of uses: it is a prime material for structural building components, but is also found in furniture and other products such as millwork (mouldings, doors, windows). Softwood is also harvested for use in the production of paper, and for various types of board such as MDF. The finer softwoods find many specialty uses. [edit] See also
[edit] External linksCategory:Plant anatomy{{For|the record label|Hardwood Records}} The term hardwood designates wood from broad-leaved (mostly deciduous, but not necessarily, in the case of tropical trees) or angiosperm trees. Hardwood contrasts with softwood, which comes from conifer trees. On average, hardwood is of higher density and hardness than softwood, but there is considerable variation in actual wood hardness in both groups, with a large amount of overlap; some hardwoods (e.g. balsa) are softer than most softwoods, while yew is an example of a hard softwood. Hardwoods have broad leaves and enclosed nuts or seeds such as acorns. They often grow in subtropical regions like Africa and also in Europe and other regions such as Asia. Hardwood species are more varied than softwood. There are about a hundred times as many hardwood species as softwoods. The vessels may show considerable variation in size, shape of perforation plates (simple, scalariform, reticulate, foraminate), and structure of cell wall (e.g. spiral thickenings). Hardwoods serve an enormous range of applications including (but not limited to): buildings, furniture, flooring, utensils, etc. Hardwoods are generally far more resistant to decay than softwoods when used for exterior work. However, solid hardwood joinery is expensive compared to softwood (in the past, tropical hardwoods were easily available but the supply is now restricted due to sustainability issues) and most "hardwood" doors, for instance, now consist of a thin veneer bonded to medium-density fibreboard (MDF). A recently classified hardwood is Palmwood, which comes from the monocotyledon group of plants and is being promoted as a sustainable alternative to the shrinking stocks of "conventional" hardwoods. [edit] DS 39
7,62 mm machinegun DS-39: (Degtjarev Stankovyj 39)
Calibre: 7,62 mm x 54 R Length: 117 cm Barrel length: 72,3 cm Weight: 14,3 cm Fire-rate: 600/minute Ammunition belts: 250-round fabric belt, after Lahti's modification also 200-round Finnish metallic belt could be used Mount: Tripod 11 kg Prototype: 1930 Production: Bit over 10,300 made 1939 - 1941 Country of origin: Soviet Union, Finnish modification Finnish use: Bit fewer than 200 captured by Finnish troops (mostly in 1941). During Continuation War issued to Finnish frontline troops. Also Soviets had noticed that Maxim machinegun was too heavy to be effective in offensive use. DS-39 (Degtjarev Stankovyj 39) machinegun designed by V.A. Degtjarev was one try to solve this problem. Degtjarev made the first prototype in year 1930 and the test-series manufactured in year 1934 was tested several years. Degtjarev improved the design with help of test results and while these improvements later proved lacking the Soviets seemingly did not spot them at that time. So they decided to replace Maxim machinegun in production with DS-39 machinegun in 22nd of October 1939. This decision soon proved too hasty. Indeed, DS-39 was lighter and it was structurally simpler than Maxim machinegun, but it also had serious reliability problems. The basic reason behind the problems was the rimmed 7.62 mm x 54R cartridge, which demands more complicated feeding system in belt-fed weapons than its non-rimmed competitors. Also fabric ammunition belts (the same ones that the Soviets used in their Maxim machineguns) that the Soviets still used with DS-39 probably didn't exactly help in reliability either. The weapon came with new light tripod, which Degtjarev had designed especially for this machinegun. This tripod was otherwise good, but proved problematic when it was set to its highest setting. With its this setting the machinegun placed on it balanced poorly and proved to have excessive muzzle-climb. So do to these factors using the machinegun for anti-aircraft use was difficult.
Finnish troops captured bit under 200 machineguns of this type (most of them in 1941) during Continuation War. Also Finnish troops soon noticed the reliability problems these weapons. Aimo Lahti studied captured DS-39 machinegun and in year 1942 he planned it 8 improvements, which considerably reduced the problem. Maybe the most important improvement was decelerator switch, which was added to the weapon's bolt, as the original high rate-of-fire had proved related to reliability problems. Other improvements included making gas-piston thinner (otherwise it typically jam the weapon after only 1,000 shots or so) and adding chamber for soot in end of gas-piston (otherwise the soot could jam gas-piston after some 4,000 - 5,000 shots). Holes of gas-regulator were also increased in size to allow more gas getting to gas-piston and angle of contact piece was changed. In addition also firing pin was thinned. The last but not least of improvements was modifying the weapon's feeding system so that Finnish 200-round metal ammunition belts M/32 could be used. Late 1942 captured DS-39 machineguns were withdrawn from the troops and sent to VKT (Valtion Kivääritehdas = State Rifle Factory), where this 8-part improvement plan was implemented. After making these improvements the machineguns were re-issued to Finnish frontline troops. While not part of the improvement plan Finnish military removed the attachment of optical sight from the captured DS-39 (it seems that the optical sights belonging to these weapons were not captured). Finnish soldiers also usually removed the weapon's shield, as the protection it offered was highly questionable. In its highest the number of DS-39 in Finnish use peaked to 175 and after 2nd World War 145 of them still remained. During Continuation War Finnish frontline troops used these machineguns. After WW2 the remaining DS-39 were warehoused until being declared obsolete year 1986 and mainly scrapped. Nowadays unknown number of Finnish-captured DS-39 machineguns remains in Finnish military museums and collections of Finnish collectors.
