PlaNet Finance is an international non profit organization, which aims at alleviating poverty by contributing to the development of the microfinance sector. By providing access to financial services to the poorest populations, the financial intermediaries, including banks, cooperatives, Non Governmental Organizations (NGO), and the Microfinance Institutions, have showed for thirty years that microfinance is one of the most efficient tool to create economic opportunities for the poor.
PlaNet Finance’s aim is to support these institutions by providing them with operational services in terms of capacity building and financing to facilitate their growth. PlaNet Finance also works with the private sector (banks and financial institutions), international agencies and governments to facilitate the creation of an efficient microfinance sector.
Based in Paris, France, PlaNet Finance has developed operations in more than 60 countries and has established an international network of affiliated offices in Europe (United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland), Northern America (USA and Canada), Latin America (Mexico, Brazil, Argentina), Asia (India, China, Japan), Africa (Senegal, Benin) and the Middle East North Africa region (Morocco, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Israël, Palestinian Territories, Lebanon, Jordan).
PlaNet Finance contributes to the strengthening and development of the sector by means of:
1. Training, Technical Support and Advisory Services provided to: - Microfinance Institutions (NGOs, cooperatives, regulated financial institutions); - National microfinance networks; - Governments (definition of strategies and implementation of regulations); - Banks interested in downscaling or wishing to support the sector; - Microentrepreneurs (Business Development Services).
2. Planet Rating, an independent affiliate, which ensures the follow-up and the transparency of Microfinance Institutions.
3. Financing services of MFIs in debt through: - PlaNet Microfund for young Microfinance Institutions; - Investment partnership with ResponsAbility for mature MFIs.
4. MicroCred, a microfinance investment company
