[edit] American Blues
Blues music arose in the late 1800's to very early 1900's. It was born with a large amount of african american influence. THe lyrics in the songs centered around hard times and struggles the writers had gone through in the own lifetimes. Although it was not the happiest form of music it did become popular among many people in the country. The main instruments used are the harmonica, saxafone and more recently the guitar has been added in. Other type of music that has a very close relationship to blues is jazz. Jazz was one of the genres that emanated out of blues. This music had a little more life in it and the lyttrics were not always about hard ships. Some became more humorous and enjoyable to listen to. I consider though, any music from this time period to be good with the way modern music has turned out to be. A couple to name that are just horrible at playing music are Mariah Caery and 50 Cent.
[edit] Hand-Face-Man
Hand-Face-Man (or alternately Hand Face Man) is a fictional character created in the Chester County area. Hand-Face-Man was born with a hand growing out of his face. As a result his social life is lacking, which explains the motto "Nobody Loves Hand-Face-Man". As a meme, Hand-Face-Man is growing relatively rapidly. Many sympathize with the plights of someone who is different, which partially explain his popularity. Hand-Face-Man is a creation of Mike Baney, but has been adopted by many. Other uses are "being the Hand-Face Man" which denotes being "that guy", or being "Hand-Faced" meaning acting like a jerk in general.

[edit] cpu burn-in
Cpu burn-in is when you increase the voltage on a cpu and using 100% of the cpu process for 24+ hours. This will usually give better preformance, but the reasons are doubltable, some say it helps electrioncly with the circuts, but most think it just helps bond the thermal paste between the cpu and the heatsink.

[edit] Homer R. Mensch
Homer R. Mensch, double bass pedagogue and professor, was born in 1914 in Sussex, New Jersey. He passed away on December 9, 2005.
Homer Mensch was an extraordinary bassist. He began studying bass under the tutelage of New York Philharmonic principal bassist, Anselme Fortier. In order to pay for lessons, he performed with the Dick Messner Big Band in the Hotel McAlpin in New York City.
In 1932, Homer Mensch joined the Pittsburgh Philharmonic under the leadership of Otto Klemperer. He was assistant bassist from 1937-1938. In 1938, he joined the New York Philharmonic, under John Barbirolli, in which his tenure was long and successful.
With the onset of World War II, Homer Mensch left the Philharmonic to join the army. In 1943 he was a member of the US Army in Texas. In 1944, he returned to New York to be a freelance bassist. During this time, he played with the NBC Symphony under Toscannini and took part in the recording of numerous television and radio shows.
By 1966, Mensch had returned to the New York Philharmonic at Leonard Bernstein's request. He remained the principal bassist of the group until 1975. After leaving the New York Philharmonic in 1975, he played with groups in New York such as the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, the New York Chamber Symphony, and the New York Pops.
He has appeared on countless classical and jazz recordings, movie soundtracks (he can be heard most clearly playing the theme music for the movie "Jaws"), commercials, TV shows and radio shows, jingles and pop music.
Homer Mensch joined the Juilliard School and Juilliard School Pre-College faculty as a professor of double bass in 1970. He became the chair of the double bass department in 2002. He also taught at Yale University, the Manhattan School of Music, the Mannes School, Catholic University, Rutgers, and many other institutions.

[edit] Bulgarian-Canadians Kroum Pindoff
Kroum Pindoff a Bulgarian-Canadian, born during the first World War, raised in various European countries, including Macedonia where he was born, and Bulgaria where he spent many of his formative years, Kroum Pindoff and Eva, his German-born wife, both survivors of the horrors of war, arrived in Canada in 1955 as immigrants with one single purpose in life: to make enough money to aid innocent victims of war.
Forming a company called Pindoff Record Sales in 1960, he began selling records on consignment to a variety of stores in Toronto. By 1970, Eva became the Founding President of Music World, a company formed to market a variety of music products. Today Music World consists of 110 outlets Canada-wide with over 1,000 employees. In the pink of life, these proud Canadians are capitalizing on the chance of a lifetime to help the innocent victimized by the ravages of war. The couple, married 50 years in the year 2000, recently pledged five million dollars to the Red Cross to help landmine victims become survivors. As philanthropists, both Kroum and Eva paid to send more than 20,000 food parcels to senior citizens in Bulgaria following the implosion of the Eastern Bloc in 1991. The Pindoffs recently built a home for 100 children in Orahavica, Gasinci, Croatia. They visit the orphanage yearly and consider the children living there as part of their extended family. This recent view of the Pindoffs reveals some of the ongoing Pindoff projects, including the development of homes for the aged in Bosnia.

Pointe du Hoc was another beach in the Normandy invasion of June 6, 1944. This beach is a lesser known one than omaha. The Rangers had the "honor" of attacking this beach, which had a 100 foot cliff to climb up, while being shot at from three sides. Believe it or not, some Rangers drifted offcourse while in open sea and ended up going to Omaha instead!

[edit] Model release
A model release is a legal document signed (typically) by the subject of a photograph, granting the photographer permission to publish the photograph, possibly subject to restrictions stated in the release, and also possibly in exchange for compensation paid to the model. Publishing an identifiable photo of a person without a model release signed by that person can result in civil liability for the photographer. Similar issues can arise for photos of pets, privately owned property, etc.
Note that this is a legal area related to privacy and is separate from copyright. Also, the need for model releases pertains to public use of the photos (i.e. publishing them, whether commercially or not). The act of taking a photo of someone (at least in a public setting) without a model release, or of viewing or (noncommercially) showing such a photo in private, generally does not create legal exposure, at least in the United States. Regardless of legal issues though, taking someone's picture without their permission can be considered impolite and can provoke an hostile response, so the photographer should take such matters into consideration and ask permission if appropriate.
The legal issues surrounding model releases are complex and vary by jurisdiction. Photographers working in areas of concern should consult specialized references, or professionals, to better understand their rights and responsibilities.

[edit] Remco Campert
Remco Campert (born in The Hague on 29 July 1929) is a famous Dutch author, poet and columnist.
[edit] Biography
Remco Wouter Campert was born in The Hague, son to author Jan Campert (creator of the famous poem 'De achttien dooden') and actress Joekie Broedelet. His parents seperated when he was three years old, causing him to sometimes live with either of his parents and sometimes his grandparents, depending on situations and circumstances. His father died in 1943 in the Nazi concentration camp Neuengamme, after which he went to live with his mother. They returned to Amsterdam after the second World War, in 1945, after having spent the 3 preceding years in the town of Epe.
Back in Amsterdam, he started a secundary education at the Amsterdam Lyceum, occasionally writing articles or drawing comics for the school's newspaper. As the years went on, he skipped more and more classes and spent increasing amounts of time in cinema's, jazz clubs or pubs. After having decided for himself that he'd become a great writer; he left school never to return.
Together with Rudy Kousbroek, a school friend, he founded the magazine 'Braak' in May 1950.
By then, Campert was married to Freddie Rutgers after their wedding in 1949. They seperated five years later. In order to finance his living, Campert resorted to writing commercial texts or jingles as well as translating foreign literary works.
He later married author Fritzi ten Harmsen van der Beek, with whom he lived together in the town of Blaricum until 1957, after which he returned to Amsterdam, where he married Lucia van den Berg in 1961. Feeling tired of the city, they decided to move to Antwerp in 1964 but Campert returned to the Dutch capital on his own two years later. There, he met art gallery owner Deborah Wolf, with whom he lived together until 1980. He has mostly kept quiet about his life in the following years, however, he once explained his situation in 1994, in an interview to Cees van Hoore, journalist of newspaper 'Nieuwsblad van het Noorden'. He was quoted as saying; "I don't choke myself. I'm my own best company. Whenever I lived together with someone, I felt like being underwater for days on end. To be together is to be twice alone and I don't need that. I'm more than happily married to my career."
Campert fell prey to the classical 'writers block' in the seventies and barely produced any new work at all. By the end of that period, he explained to journalist Jan Brokken of newspaper 'Haagse Post' that; "I couldn't write for years on end. I didn't feel like it. I felt a physical repulsion towards it. I thought about it, but was paralysed by doubts."
However, he went back to his art in 1979 and continued to write (amongst other works) the 1985 National book week gift of 'Soberman's actie'. From 1989 until 1995, Campert starred in theaters throughout the nation and beyond in a play he had created together with Jan Mulder (author and ex-football player). Their shows were based on both their literary works. 1995 was also the year he read his bestseller novel 'Het leven is vurrukkulluk' on the radio.
Dutch people of younger generations will most likely associate his name with 'CaMu', the partnership between Remco Campert and Jan Mulder that has been writing daily front-page columns for national newspaper 'De Volkskrant' since 1995 and continues to do so up to this day. These columns are traditionally bundled into books entitled 'CaMu Jaaroverzicht' at the end of each year.

[edit] Martin Glider
Designed and built by William H. Martin, a native of Canton, Ohio in 1908, the Martin Glider was one of the earliest mono-wing designs in aviation. On January 12, 1909, the glider made its first flight reaching a height of approximately 20 feet and at an air speed of 20 miles per hour. Due to the fact that Martin's wife Almina weighed less than he, she became the glider's first pilot. Eventually, the glider logged more than 100 successful flights.
The glider is currently on display at the MAPS Air Museum at the Akron-Canton Airport in North Canton, Ohio.

Idiots First
Synopsis: Mendel winds the clock (symbol of time, passing, his life ends but he wants extra time) and tells Isaac, his "idiot son" (recoverable only from details such Isaac's playing with the peanuts, Mendel taking him by hand although Isaac is an adult). They hurry to sell the clock but the pawnbroker does not want to buy it. They need money to buy a train ticket for Isaac so that he could go to his uncle in California. In fact, Mendel makes a lie, there is no uncle, the train is a train to heaven, and Manedl wants to put on the train his son (he has nothing of the life, though) and Mendel lost all those years taking care of Isaac. They cannot get the money for Mandel to eschew passing to heaven. Therefore, they go to see a charity man, Fishbein (fish = symolic in Judaism) but he says he gives only to charity organisations (guoted famouc Cannagie's phrase: "I only give to organised charity!". With no effect they ran to the local Rabbi, he is poor but gives them his new furcoat. The next scene takes place at the train station. They came at 00:01, the train still waiting at the platform but the gatetender does not want to let them in. There comes also Ginzburg (whiom Mendel mentions before as that he will not get them. They quarell, suddenly, there is a crowd of people, his hands are cold. He is the angel of death, his messanger coming to announce Mendel's time. There is a flash lightning from the sky, Ginzburg had cuased a pause of the eternity symbolised by the train, Isaac is allowed to get on, Mendel survives.
[edit] Yevhen Konovalets
b. 14. June 1891 in Zashkiv, Lviv county, Galicia - d. 23. May 1938 in Rotterdam military commander with rank of a commander in the UNR army and political leader of the Ukrainian nationalist movement.
Konovalets studied law at the Lviv University and was also a member of the educational Prosvita society. He was politically active as a student representative in the Executive Commitee of the National-Democratic Party.
He served as the Second lieutenant in the Austrian army during the First World War and fell into Russian captivity in 1915, being interned near Tsaritsyn. While in captivity he joined a group of former Galician officers (with Andryi Melnykamong others) which altogether fled to Kiev to organize there the Galician-Bukovynian Battalion of Sich Riflemen in November 1917. He assumed its command two months later and helped suppress the Kiev Bolshevik uprising with this unit as well as resisting the Muraviev´s offensive.
In 1920, in reaction to shattered struggle for Ukrainian independence, Konovalets set up to create a new organization capable of acting in underground conditions within the borders of the new "occupying powers", i.e. Poland, Russia-then USSR, Romania and Czechoslovakia. In this way the Ukrainian military organization (UVO) was created in August 1920. Konovalets became its head one year later in Lviv. Since December 1922 he was forced to shift into exile which he spent in Czechoslovakia, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. In 1929 he took part in the first congress of Ukrainian nationalists in Vienna where the Organization of Ukrainian nationalists (OUN) was born with Konovalets as its leader. Konovalets then actively promoted its influence among the Ukrainian emigres throughout Europe while establishing contacts with intelligence offices of Lithuania, Germany and Italy. The goal of the OUN was to revive an independent Ukraine through armed struggle. After Adolf Hitler´s rise it turned its attention to Germany and hoped for a future European war which would lead to a change of power constellation in the East. Meanwhile the OUN launched a terrorist and subversive campaign in pre-war Poland while acting also in the other three states with Ukrainian ethnic territories. Konovalets´activities raised fear in Kremlin because of penetration of the OUN into the Soviet Union. He was killed by a booby-trap masked as a "present" from his "true friend" who turned out to be the notorious NKVD agent Pavel Sudoplatov.

[edit] The Pez
The Legend of The Pez is a wellknown Cornish fairytale about a monster that lives in the countryside. People still claim to see The Pez to this day. Legend has it that The Pez was a deformed boy called Peran Hayes who killed his parents. Many Cornish children are told "The Pez will get you!" if they are naughty. Peran Hayes was meant to have lived in Carharrack, a small town in the center of Cornwall.

[edit] cache-line-reservations
Cache Line Reservation is a synchronization mechanism used in some multiprocessor system. Perhaps the most notable are those based on the POWER archtecture by IBM.
On systems supporting Cache Line Reservation, a special load instruction and a special store instruction are provided to handle the synchronization.
The special load instruction, in addition to performing a load through the cache to a register, sets a bit in the relevant cache line to flag it as 'reserved'. Any write from any processor in the system to the memory represented in that cache line will clear the reservation flag.
The special store instruction, first checks to ensure that the cache line is still marked as reserved. If it is not reserved, the data is not written to memory, and a status bit is set in the processor to indicate the store failure. If the line is still reserved, the store takes place, and a status bit is set to indicate the success of the store. Additionally, this store, as with all stores, clears the cache line reservation.
By retrying the load/operate/store cycle repeatedly, it can be gauranteed that the operation was handled without interference from the other processors or threads in the system.
