Talk:Artomatic
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Artomatic is a real serious art event in Washington, DC. It is not spam!
You're right. Artomatic supports a real need for alternative art exhibition in the DC area.
[edit] Made a small usage fix: Comprising vs. comprised of
I changed "... a steering committee comprised of local artists, ..." to "...a steering committee comprising local artists, ..." A whole thing COMPRISES its parts; it is not COMPRISED of them. 140.147.160.78 14:09, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Stephen Kosciesza
[edit] Origin of the name
It's my understanding that the name of the event comes from the fact that the first Artomatic was held in an old Laundromat. But I haven't got a reference for this, so I don't want to update the article myself. 140.147.160.78 14:13, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Stephen Kosciesza
[edit] Venues
It might be good to discuss the venues. Artomatic has traditionally been held in buildings and spaces that have been otherwise vacated. The first, as I understand (wasn't aware of it then) was in an old former laundromat--hence the name. The second (first I got to) was in the Tenley Circle neighborhood of Northwest DC, in a building in that had been a Sears store and a Hechinger hardware store, and that now houses a Container Store and a Best Buy. The third was in a building adjacent to Waterside Mall in southwest DC; I believe the building used to house government offices. The fourth was on Capitol Hill in the former Capital Children's Museum--since demolished. The current one, in Crystal City, is in a building on two floors that used to be occupied by the Patent and Trademark Office. But again, I don't have references to add this to the article. 140.147.160.78 14:23, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Stephen Kosciesza

This Wiki needs a lot of work. Dating it at the beginning is not wise for longevity. "Tim Tate" whoever that is is not a notable artist nor a notable reference with regards to Artomatic. "Tim Tate" does not need a link to his resume published. Furthermore a Wiki (especially about an event) should list actual references to people that put on the event and a more accurate description of how the event works. This Wiki does not properly explain what Artomatic is.
