[edit] History

Arthur has had numerous hockey teams nicknamed the Tigers since 1904, with the most recent team playing in the WOAA from 1985-1999. The team ran into some hard times in the mid 1990's, losing a lot more games than they were winning, and folded at the conclusion of the 1998-99 season. Along with the Grand Championship, the Tigers were also two-time WOAA Intermediate B champions.

[edit] 1991 Grand Championship

The club had their most success in the 1990-91 season, defeating the heavily favoured Durham Thundercats to become the WOAA Grand Champions. After the 1990-91 season, Durham Thundercats had won the Senior "A" Championship, the team went together on a scheduled vacation to Jamaica. Halfway through their vacation, the players were contacted by team management and told that they had been challenged for the WOAA Senior Grand Championship. Under WOAA by-law, the Senior "B" champion had the right to challenge the Senior "A" champion for the Grand Championship, which under normal circumstances was just forfeited to the Senior "A" champion. The T-Cats rushed back from their vacation, cutting it short to answer the challenged. The noticeably sluggish Durham squad, jet-legged and hungover, were beaten handily by the battle hardened Tigers, who fresh off of winning the "B" title were ready for them. The Grand Championship was eliminated from the WOAA three years later -- all won by the Durham Thundercats.

[edit] Rivalries

The Tigers had a big rivalry with the Drayton Comets, as the two towns are located very close, and the clubs met numerous times in the playoffs during the late 1980's and early 1990's.

The Durham Thundercats were another one of the Tigers main rivals, as both clubs had highly successful teams in the early 1990's, meeting in the playoffs often, including the 1991 WOAA Grand Championship, which the Tigers defeated the heavily favoured Thundercats to win their only WOAA Grand Championship.
