Arthur Shapiro

Arthus Shapiro is a professor of Evolution and Ecology at the University of California, Davis. He graduated with an AB in biology from University of Pennsylvania and completed his PhD in Entomology at Cornell in 1970. He is known as an interesting character to see around campus as he refuses to drive a car anywhere and sponsors the yearly Butteflies for Beers[1] contest.

Dr. Shapiro's papers cover topics including:

  • Evolution, ecology, ehylogeny, and biogeography of the pierid butterflies
  • Evolution of seasonality Insect-host plant interactions
  • Phenotypic plasticity and canalization.
