The Arthur Lewis Building, named after Arthur Lewis, houses some of the Humanities departments of the University of Manchester. It is located close to Oxford Road and the Manchester Business School, near the centre of Manchester, UK. Construction was completed in 2007.
The building holds the Economics, Philosophy, Politics, Sociology and Social Anthropology departments of the University, as well as the School of Environment and Development and the School of Social Sciences.[1] It also has a small cafeteria, named "Arthur's Brew", which opened on the 17 September 2007.[2]
The building has has been the centre of controversy regarding access to professors due to its swipe card policy, which locks lecturers in the building in order to allow them to conduct research without the distraction of students who need their consultation.[3]
