Artesia High School competes in the New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) in AAAA Distrct 4. AHS has taken to win 9 state championships in 4A since 2001. Artesia has the most football State Championships with a state record of 25 mostly in 3A. AHS also became a AAAA school in 2000, meeting the student population to become a NMAA 4A school.
