Artcraft Theatre

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Artcraft Theatre is a classic movie theater in downtown Franklin, Indiana. It was built in 1922 in an Art Deco style, and was used for vaudeville and silent movies. The theater was one of the first in the area to feature cool air due to the swamp cooler installed.[1] It served as a full-time movie theater until 2000, when it closed.[2]

The Artcraft is currently owned by Franklin Heritage, Inc, a non-profit that restores historic houses in Franklin. "Classic" movies are shown during weekends, and proceeds are used to restore the theater. The theater has also been host to parties, concerts, foreign films, and a B-movie festival.
