Arshak III

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arshak III was the last king of the part of Armenia that was put under Roman domination by the Peace of Acilisene.

Arshak III originally came to power as co-king with his brother Valarshak in 380 during Manuel Mamikonian's domination of Armenia. In the mid-380s, after Manuel died, Arshak's power was lessened by invasion of the land by Persian forces.

From 387 on he was only king of a small part of Armenia, west of a line running from Erzurum to Mush. He died in 389 and after that Armenia was made a province of the Eastern Roman Empire.
