According to Wikipedia policy, parts of this article could be intended for self-promotion ("It can be tempting to write about yourself or projects you have a strong personal involvement in. However, do remember that the standards for encyclopedic articles apply to such pages just like any other, including the requirement to maintain a neutral point of view, which is difficult when writing about yourself.")

The author had enumerated the whole list of papers he has written, increasing dramatically the size of the article, reducing its readability. The author should remember Wikipedia is not a space to host a Curriculum Vitae.

Just for the record, colleague Umberto, and thanks for reminding me about Wikipedia requirements: the original article, which by and large is now again on the net, was written by a colleague from Cadiz University and NOT by myself, as Umberto's remarks COULD suggest. Check for the "history" page of this entry BEFORE I entered seveal bibliographical details:

Arno Tausch, Innsbruck University, September 2, 2007

[edit] Notable?

This article is very long-winded, but nowhere does it demonstrate that Dr. Tausch satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for notability. To be notable, a person must have "been the subject of published secondary source material which is reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject."

As admitted above, this article was primarily written by one of Dr. Tausch's colleagues, and has been significant revised by Dr. Tausch himself. The crucial question is: Are there reliable sources independent of Dr. Tausch that have written substantially about him? If so, then it is imperative for such sources to be cited in the article. If not, then this article should not exist on Wikipedia. --BlueMoonlet (t/c) 02:26, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] If notable, please decide yourself

About Arno Tausch, please take into account the following:

  • From then onwards, Tausch's work had a certain influence on the course of dependency and world system research across the globe 1). His most influential book is the Socio-Liberal Theory of World Development (1993), which he finished during his stay at the University of Hawaii in Manoa, and which quantitatively tests the cross-national relevance of the socio-liberal reform programs, put forward by Europe's social democrats during the 1920, like Karl Polanyi and Ernst Wigforss. It is based on politometric studies of development patterns around the globe since the 1960s.
  • Over 40 peer-reviewed scholarly journals printed articles by Arno Tausch.
  • Over 85 peer-reviewed scholarly journals reviewed works of Arno Tausch.
  • Over 24 books and articles written by Arno Tausch on the course syllabi of major Universities and institutions of learning around the world.
  • Here is available a selection of references and reviews of works in publications, published by governments or international organizations:
  • Apart from the bibliography of works, dealing with the publications by Arno Tausch, referred to in footnote 1 above, one should also mention the impact on major book publications and standard works in the field which refer to the work by Arno Tausch:

Having left the ivory tower of pure science in December 1991, the international political impact of Tausch's writings can be considered as considerable. Publications, which he authored or co-authored, or to which he contributed, now feature as recommended materials at major Universities and centers of higher learning around the world and are on the reading lists of major international organizations, such as the European Commission, the ILO, the OECD, the World Bank, and the United Nations. And were referred to in over 100 international journals/yearbooks, textbooks of social sciences, and by the Soros Foundation.5) In 1998, the ACRL (Association of College and Research Libraries, the largest division of the American Library Association, in publication "Choices" outstanding academic books, 1992 - 1997" (Rebecca Ann Bartlett) singled out Arno Tausch's title "Towards a Socio-Liberal Theory of World Development" as one of the "Outstanding Academic Books" of the entire period.

By January 2008, Arno Tausch was ranked among the top 5 % of the global economists by the system Repec/Ideas of the University of Connecticut. This system lists more than 15000 economists in more than 60 countries of the world, with an estimated share of up to 3/4 of the global economics profession.

RafaGS, your information seems to me to basically show that Dr. Tausch is a researcher who has published many works, and who has been cited by other scholars. I do not doubt that he is an important scholar in his field. However, there are thousands of scholars alive today who answer that description, to say nothing of the countless scholars in times past, and not every one of them needs to have an article in Wikipedia. The policy on notability is not that the person is "important", but that he is worthy of notice by the general public. Evidence of this would be independent reliable sources writing about Dr. Tausch himself, not simply citing his work. --BlueMoonlet (t/c) 02:50, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
