Ev logo

Hey Armando. Do you simply not like the blue background for the logo? Why keep changing it back to a white background over and over? The blue is most likely not going to change, given how much effort Wikiproject Albums put behind arriving at the current colours... Heck, if it does, I'll make myself responsible for creating a new image to match. It looks much better for the logo to properly blend into the surroundings, rather than stand out the way it does with a white background. -- Huntster T@C 03:59, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

??What's the problem? It's just transformed it to PNG format! Maybe in a few months the color will change and we won't have to create a new image...Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 18:09, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Apparently the new logo contains a tail on the "E" that the old one is missing, making it both more correct and more aesthetically pleasing. My issue with the new image though is the bluriness. —Lantoka ( talk | contrib) 18:38, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
No, the only difference between the old logo and the new one is that now the first "A" has a longer tail. Though, which one did you think was blurry? The blue-background one? That's just compression artifacting, which I can fix if it's decided to use it. Really though, I don't care which logo is used, I just thought the blue one would blend more nicely with the infobox border...and no, I *seriously* doubt the colours are going to be changing anytime soon, given how much debate and hem-hawing went into deciding the current scheme; Everyone at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums seems to agree with it. -- Huntster T@C 20:50, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
It can happen. But, why do you worry? It's your same image, but just on PNG format. Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 18:37, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Hey Armando, I want to apologize for aggravating you about the logo. I had forgotten that Internet Explorer does not render alpha transparency in images, so to me the image still appeared to have a white background, even though other users with Firefox, etc saw it as transparent. I just figured this out when I went to create a new logo as an SVG format (recommended for wiki graphics) using your image as a template. Great job with it, it should work well for a long time. BTW, what font are you using? The one I have does not contain the "A" with the long tail, and I cannot find it online. -- Huntster T@C 06:34, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
No problem xD. Yeah, I just have the Ev normal font too, "Evanescent". I though I'd found the Evanescence new font on the Evanescence Reference but when I installed it, it was just the same...Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 21:10, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Hmm, how did you create the extra-length tail on the "A" then? Obviously I'm a relative novice when it comes to graphic design... -- Huntster T@C 21:19, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Do you remember that you uploaded a JPG file named EvWriting with the A long tail? Well, I just deleted the blue background to make a transparent background...Very easy :D Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 21:24, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Whoa, and it retained the alpha-blend transparency? Impressive, I guess what I use (Paint Shop Pro 8) doesn't have that capability. Btw, I like the logo graphics you're adding, haven't seen these fonts before. However, you need to label the things you create as being your own creation, and not fair-use (using something like {{cc-by-sa-2.5}}. I can take care of this for you on those logo images (and any others you might have scanned or created yourself), if you'd prefer. -- Huntster T@C 21:19, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah!, I'd really thank you. Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 21:40, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Image:Ev band.jpg

Hola compadre,

I went ahead and tagged Image:Ev band.jpg for deletion since consensus on the Talk:Evanescence is to use the Lithium image. Just letting you know. I'm glad that things worked out and that we were able to have an image of the band after all. Thanks for your patience throughout this entire ordeal. – Lantoka (talk) 21:03, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Thnx Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 16:02, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Archiving Evanescence

Hey Armando, in the future, don't archive *all* of the talk page. There were still discussions that were actively going on, and now many newer people won't be able to find them (and you aren't supposed to comment on archive pages anyway). So discussion has effectively stopped for any outstanding issues. Besides that, the page wasn't very long...look at previous archives which were twice as long as the new one. Just a tip for the future...don't archive until you have a significant number of dead topics. -- Huntster T@C 06:37, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Oh, I know it was long physically, but the number of articles contained was small. I understand why you archived, I'm just suggesting you don't archive everything when doing so. -- Huntster T@C 19:50, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

The Open Door image

Please do not reupload previously deleted images. If you believe they have been wrongly deleted take it to WP:Deletion review. I assume you're thinking something like "why can't I claim the copyright to this, I made it." Unfortunately it's not that simple. Anyone can make a scan, can't they, so why can't I do it, and licence it? The simple answer is, yes anyone can scan it, but that doesn't give you the right to claim copyright or relicence the image. Again I suppose you may be confused as to why.
The reason it that copyright is based on the premise that the work you are copyrighting is original, and therefore you should have some right to control it. However, scanning an image is not sufficiently original, therefore it doesn't change its copyright status. All scans of a printed image will be somewhat imperfect compared to the original, as they lose some quality being printed, and some small amount being scanned however these imperfections are not sufficient to make the new copyrightable independant of the original (at least, not in the US, where the Wikimedia servers are). If you want to see more about this, see Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corporation.

A very simple example, is filesharing of music. Just because you copied it to your PC doesn't mean you can share it as if you own the copyright. If you have any more questions about copyright, just ask me or someone at WP:COPYRIGHT. (btw, I nominated your reupload for deletion again - it is a serious violation of policy to reupload deleted material, unless it is agreed at WP:Deletion review that it was wrongly deleted) - Рэдхот(tce) 12:25, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Also, this applies to your other images of Evanescence albums or albums in general. The copyright still belongs to Evanescence and/or Wind-up (and also maybe Sony BMG). You should relicence them under fair use as they are infringing on copyright being licenced as they currently are. Again to confirm the accuracy of this you can go to any part of Wikipedia's guidlines on this. Also, since you've seemingly been warned about this before, I should advise you that if you continue to licence images like that, which aren't yours to licence, you will blocked. - Рэдхот(tce) 13:36, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

hey!

What's the font for Image:EvWriting.png ? Love Evanescence by the way. I can play all her music on piano :) AQu01rius (User • Talk) 03:56, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

You can get it here, http://evanescencereference.info/wiki/index.php?title=Fonts_and_Logos#Fallen , and download Evanescent (as tweaked by Gyakusetsu) Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 16:45, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Your Sims 2 Userbox

Hey. I saw your Sims 2 userbox, and I really liked it. I considered putting it on my page, but when I opened the image with the Sims 2 logo, I saw the image was fair use. Fair use images can only be used to illustrate the object in question, so that means it can only be used on Sims 2-related articles. It breaches Florida law or something (Wikipedia is based there). If you want more info, check WP:UBX#Content for more info. Regards,   •The RSJ•   Talk | Sign Here 00:48, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Ev Videos

I haven't deleted any recently, but the video links I did delete were ones on YouTube or other such service. They are copyrighted, and being present on YouTube is a violation of copyright, thus, we cannot link to them. I'm working on getting this fixed, and links to properly copyrighted videos established. -- Huntster T@C 07:29, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Evanescence.svg

Thanks for uploading Image:Evanescence.svg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 06:05, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Lacuna_coil_icon.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Lacuna_coil_icon.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Signature Template

Hi, Eacz12. I was editing someone's Talk page (I think it was Lupin's) and I noticed that you use a template for your signature. I read WP:SIG and found advice against using templates for signatures. It also says that templates you use in your signature will be automatically substed. Since you appear to be an established contributor, I am wondering if anyone has ever approached you negatively regarding this practice. I'd like to do the same, but I don't want to violate WP:SIG. Do you think I should do it? It would allow me to get my old signature back. — Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 03:52, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, my sig is substd...but I did something...I created a template, (where all the codes are) and I created another, where the code is the template, I don't know if you understand. Look...

Template 1: <div>.......</div>

Template 2: {{Template 1}}

So...In the preferences page.. {{Subst:Template2}} → {{Template 1}} nice uh? xD! Well, I'll think what I'm gonna do with my sig...thnx for the advice! Armando.O  (talk|contribs) 03:58, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

I think I get it. I think I'll do that. I got complaints about the length of my old signature, which is why it's kind of boring, but something like {{User:Voyagerfan5761/Signature}} would be even shorter than what I have now. — Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 04:00, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
But you've just told me it's wrong xD!!!  Armando.O  (talk|contribs) 04:03, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
I don't mind, really; I was asking if anyone had complained. And now mine works; thanks for the instructions! Yours is really short as it is; I wouldn't change it unless someone seriously complains. Which doesn't count me. ;) — Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 04:10, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
I just wish I could change all my old sigs to this new, small one. Since I don't plan on changing it, the concerns with cache updates in WP:SIG don't really apply. I could really reduce the size of the pages I've contributed to with my old sig, but I suppose I should only "fix" them if I edit the pages for some other reason... — Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 04:14, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Lol, i don't have any problem so it's OK =P!  Armando.O  (talk|contribs) 14:54, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
