Fair use images

Quoting item #9 of the Fair use criteria (WP:FUC):

"Fair use images should be used only in the article namespace. Used outside article space, they are often enough not covered under the fair use doctrine. They should never be used on templates (including stub templates and navigation boxes) or on user pages."

You can't use these images on your user page, sorry. Combination 09:39, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Image tagging for Image:Marie Antoinette Son.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Marie Antoinette Son.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Nightwish

Thanks for your contributions to the Nightwish article. I invite you to discuss in the talk page of that article the modifications you are doing. The article is a featured one, and the modifications you are doing may make it lose its status as the changes can be considered decorative by the Fair use criteria, point 8. Thank you. -- ReyBrujo 02:22, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Clearing your talk page

Just to let you know, it's generally considered bad form to remove content from your talk page without first archiving it, as you did with one of your previous discussions. Please see WP:ACM for more information on this matter. Thank you. --Carl (talk|contribs) 16:45, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't remember what I have deleted :S Armando (talk|ImgTalk|contribs) 17:29, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Category:Evanescence images

Regarding your edit at the Evanescence category, as pointed above, the Fair use criteria indicates they can only be used in the article namespace. Thus, the NOGALLERY tag is needed in categories to prevent them visualizing in categories, which are not covered by the fair use criteria. Hopefully you will understand this. Good luck! -- ReyBrujo 21:30, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

A fellow Evanescence fan I see...

Are you going to the concert? I had to buy my tickets on eBay for like $100!!! —Lantoka ( talk | contrib) 05:35, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

How did u know I'm a fan!?!?! Well, i can't go to the concert cuz i live in Peru :S
I knew based on your edits to Evanescence-related articles. =)
OH MY GOD! They played tonight in Los Angeles, CA... let me just say, $100 well spent! I hear they're doing international tours... although I think it's just Europe. I hope they swing by Peru sometime so you can go! And Amy Lee is still as awesome as ever.
I'll get some pictures posted when I get back to my apartment. They banned cameras but I snuck some pics on my camera phone. —Lantoka ( talk | contrib) 09:40, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
Maybe those pics can be used as free use alternatives to all of the failed fair use images that are on the articles right now. They just need to be clear enough so we can see the subjects. Roguegeek (talk) 17:30, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Image:Amyl.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Amyl.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Roguegeek (talk) 03:18, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey

Images are being deleted because they do not pass the first fair use criterion. I will continue to nominate files for deletion that do not pass all fair use criteria. You can check out the policy here. As for your question about the images on my user page, they aren't even fair use images. If you actually went into each image description, you'd see they have a free use license. I gave them that license because I am the photographer of them. There is a world of difference between a fair use image and a free use image. Roguegeek (talk) 01:52, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

That admin was correct. Fair use images of any type are not allowed on user pages. Roguegeek (talk) 01:57, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
It's not a matter of the subject. My images are free use because I created them and offered them as free to use. Promotional material is, generally, not free use. The owner of those images did not grant free use of those images unless you can get them to say so. Promotional images are fair use then, but it still doesn't pass Wikipedia's definition of fair use unless it meets all fair use criteria. It can only pass the first fair use criterion if no free use images could possibly be created or found. A free use image of Amy Lee does exist here, therefore, all Amy Lee images that are fair use will fail here in Wikipedia. I can explain more, but not right now. The criteria can explain this more clearly and completely. Roguegeek (talk) 02:20, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

I'm sorry for this, but it's the same case. Also, free use images (if available) should always be used in place of a fair use image. Roguegeek (talk) 01:58, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Oye

Compadre,

Image:Anywhere logo.png listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Anywhere logo.png, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in its not being deleted. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Anywhere logo.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Anywhere logo.png. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Extra tracklisting

Firstly, I want to appologise for being rude. I would like to let you know that I have nominated for deletion the template {{Extra song version}}. The "altAlbum" field has been changed on {{Extra tracklisting}} - and since only you and I know about it - could you tell me where it's been used? Thanks --Ashadeofgrey (talk ·  contribs) 10:49, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! You're a star. I can't believe you're working so hard on the Evanescence articles (the only song i like is "My Immortal"). But nevertheless, thank you and I'm glad we've got a compromise ;).--Ashadeofgrey (talk ·  contribs)

You need to stop

Seriously, stop complaining about any of the Wikipedia policies and just follow them. Don't revert edits anymore until you have an understanding of them. I'm not going to try explaining any of it to you either as it has been explained over and over again. You simply need to stop. Stop uploading copyrighted material. Stop reverting edits that uphold policy. Stop complaining and have constructive conversations with editors. Roguegeek (talk) 18:56, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

First, stop attacking me! Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on contributors; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks may lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you.

Okay, I'm chiming in here against both sides. First, Armando, please stop making unilateral decisions on these things. You just restored the band image on Evanescence while we're still figuring out the best way to proceed in Talk! Make your opinion known, but don't go forward unless there is some kind of consensus; right now there isn't, even with an admin present. Second, Rogue, don't threaten other editors by saying you'll turn them over ("...submitting you to the admins to be blocked..." on Evanescence Talk), this is completely uncivil. You can make the action of taking the case to an admin for review, but *do not threaten* anyone. If there is some kind of problem between the two of you, please seek a moderator to sort things out, or take a wikibreak and cool off. -- Huntster T@C 22:07, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
