Talk:Army list
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I'd like to move this article to Army list (wargaming), in order to create a new article on the annual Army List of officers in the British Army. Does anyone have any comments to make on this? Leithp 13:58, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
Hmmm... make a page "Annual list of British Officers"?? Or something like that. The phrase "army list" is extremely common place in wargamming circles. And wouldn't something like what I suggested fit better?? Mathmo 20:20, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
- It's universally described as the Army List, so I'd like to have the article under that name, or a variant. If it's a commonly used term then I could just go for Army List (British Army) with a "see also" note, but I wasn't sure how much the wargaming term was used. Leithp 09:43, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

- Is used a lot, but of course only in wargamming circles... But then that is the same for yours, only in british military circles and related areas? Not sure about the correct procedure here, but am guessing unless there is a convincing reason otherwise the first one stays as it is and the new one can be called whatever it likes?? - If the two uses are about as common, it would seem a good idea to make the name a disambiguate page, and use the parenthetical qualifiers for both articles. In the absence of any way to determine which use is more common, and if neither side has a good alternate term, we probably should just assume equal use rather than getting unhappy fighting about it. As an aside, as a (board) wargamer, I've almost never heard the term 'Army List'. It would make sense for it to be miniatures phenominon though, and I freely admit my ignorace there. --Rindis 16:36, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

"A minority of games, such as Warhammer Fantasy Battle use army lists to enforce the game's theme." Is this not true for historical games too? After all my Flames of War army list is there to inforce the "panzergrenadier theme". Similar a Roman army list is there to enforce the roman/period theme etc... Mathmo 20:20, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
