Talk:Armor of God

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I moved all of the content from Armour of God page to this page. Seedsoflight 04:42, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

    • The article, "the", (article, as in the grammatical part of speech, not the Wikipedia article itself) seems completely unnecessary to me given that different translations don't even call it, "The Armor of God." It's the "whole armor of God" in the KJV. It's the "full armor of God" in the NIV. And it's "God's armor" in the NLT. Might as well go with the most used phrase and shave off the article, which is why I moved the page. -- Hinotori(talk)|(ctrb) 08:32, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

I think it might be noticeable that the Armor of God could also include prayer, as Paul has a tendency to use the number seven, and there are only six articles here. In verse eighteen, it is said, "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints." (emp. added) It seems that prayer is listed as part of the Armor of God. Collun 21:17, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

  • That's an interesting point. Prayer is very important, I agree. However, I do think that since the main reference is toward the different parts that comprise a soldier's battle armor. that prayer doesn't really correlate with the analogy. Conversely, I'm sure that most soldiers would attest to the fact that prayer is their most powerful weapon/armor in battle. 71.113.60.63 08:09, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
  • As a bona fide Methodist, that was never included in the metaphor. Believe me, my church once had a whole vacation bible school on the Armor of God, so I'd know. But unless you find reliable sources, this isn't the sort of thing that we can include. — Ultor_SolisT 18:15, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
  • I've added the phrase "through prayer in the Holy Spirit" to include the mention of prayer, as Paul does indicate its supreme importance. I feel that this satisfies the need to recognize the significance of prayer's relationship to this topic, yet does not mention it as a part of the actual "Armor of God" —Seedsoflight 07:39, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Prayer sometimes but not often included in my experience. In the spiritual warfare book "They Shall Expel Demons" by Derek Prince he lists "All Prayer" along with the other Armor and lists it as the only long range weapon. I personally would like to see a note that prayer is sometimes included.

[edit] Inaccurate Explanation

The explanation at the bottom of the page is flawed. The last point on the sword of the Spirit speaks of the spirits of Christians, where, in most literal translations, the word Spirit is capitalized, and refers to the Holy Spirit.

I've reluctantly changed it because the list would be incomplete if I took that one item out but as it was the list was inaccurate. My humble explanation is without citation. 24.162.117.244 21:04, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
